Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

The quiet thing worked on the other thread for ilovemyboy... so I thought I'd give it a go on here.

So if you don't mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NatalieJane · 30/11/2006 00:21

Well it is going to get really quiet now, because I am off to have a proper go at getting some christmas pressies sorted, I haven't got a clue where to start, but I might as well put these sleepless nights to some use!

I will of course let you all know if anything happens, if not, g'night, for now at least! xxx

I wonder what we'll do when the baby is born? I'll have so much free time.

NatalieJane · 30/11/2006 01:39

Still getting these sodding tightenings I wouldn't mind in the slightest if I thought they were going to come to anything, but we all know they won't GRRRRR!!

I have sorted out a christmas list for DS though, now just got hard bit - the actually parting with the cash!! LOL

Take it easy NJ, you will be fine. Just relax. One thing I learned in hypnobirthing is that labor usually starts when you are most relaxed.

You are putting way too much pressure on yourself. This will happen when it's meant to happen and how it's going to happen.

NatalieJane · 30/11/2006 02:33

I have timed the last five, because they are starting to hurt, times are

1.48
1.55
2.00
2.15
2.20

So they are just about as much all over the place as they can get. I'm not really wound up about them, I just wish they would actually do something, or sod off for the night so I could get sleep! It is now 2.33 here, and I have to be up at 6.30 to get DS to school, so I am already looking at only a maximum of 4 hours sleep tonight, and that is if I went to bed and to sleep right this second!

And the baby now has hiccups which will start a whole new pattern of contractions off due to the irritable uterus, I am a moaner aren't I?!!!

mamama · 30/11/2006 03:39

Poor you. I've been lurking on this thread for a while but thought I'd come out of hiding now! I know you've been waiting a long time for this baby to make it's arrival. Hope it happens for you very soon!

And hope those hiccups go so you can get a bit of rest.

NatalieJane · 30/11/2006 07:45

Thanks Mamama, I eventually gave up about 4-ish, got myself comfy on the sofa and just sort of dozed for the rest of the night, I am now absolutely shattered, still getting tightenings but no where near as strong as they were over night. Next time some clever clogs decides sex is the way to get things going, suggest it in the morning please!!!

DS is up and eating his breakfast, looks like he will make it to school today But the weather is awful so I will see how it goes for that trip into town! I might just get down to some serious scrubbing.

NJ........ stop timing!

NatalieJane · 30/11/2006 08:33

Don't worry, there is going to be no more timing, no more waiting up for them to go, no more anything, I have to start getting ready to labour and for a newborn to take over our house for a bit!

I am going to start by concentrating on Christmas, properly. I have made a start now, and knowing me I will get pulled along up till the big day now!!

No more baby talk, he isn't coming for another two weeks which gives me time to get lots sorted

(Did that sound convincing enough?!!)

Hoooooorahhhhhhhhh!! DS is at school

I don't know if I am more pleased that he is back, or more pleased to have 5 minutes to myself!! LOL

I had increasingly strong pains up until about 11.30, then they eased off and I was able to get some sleep but they started again at around 3. I phoned the delivery suite to speak to a midwife cos wasn't sure if I should be trying to sleep or walking around trying to stay active!

She voted sleep, paracetamol, warm baths, sleep....so had a v early bowl of porridge with 2 paracetamol and managed to sleep from about 4 to nearly 8. Hooray!

Still got random pains this morning and going to the loo sooooo often...but have had hot milky drink and am going to try to get some more sleep..I've had two really bad nights now.

Spoke to mum this morning and she said this is how all three of her labours went, but that she went almost straight from pre-labour to 2nd stage, only spent about 15 mins in 1st stage - is that the memory thing playing tricks on her coz it sounds too good to be true! Hope I take after her though! (And hope I have time to fill the pool!! I've always wanted a water birth!!).

Oh well, need to close eyes and try to sleep, I've got DH working from home again today so at least I'm not doing this on my own...and hopefully, not too much more to cope with.

Speak soon,
C

Rosydingdongmerrily · 30/11/2006 09:45

I really don't think all these contractions are for nothing! How could they be?...
Just imagine how strong the uterus must be after all the excercise! This palava happens to me and honestly last two labours when it came to the bit my body pushed about twice to get them out. I really hope my next labour is the same.

What happened with Ilovemyboy?...off to lurk elsewhere.....(in a postie sort of way)

emmatom · 30/11/2006 10:13

emmatom here. My birthing tactics worked a treat on ilovemyboys thread. Her little one popped out moments after I applied my technique.

So here I am, ready, willing and able to apply the same procedure here if required.

well....everyone ok , are we not whispering at the moment?

calsworld · 30/11/2006 12:27

Afternoon...had a lovely sleep and feel much refreshed...contractions have slowed considerably, definately seems to favour the night time!

Have just had another show (this can't be TMI for this thread) which looked like orange marmalade...so still moving in the right direction...LO is still wiggling away too.

Just helping DH with some report writing which is keeping me occupied, then planning on a bath, more for hygiene than pain relief at the moment...although back ache is starting to build up again.
