Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

largeginandtonic · 29/11/2006 22:15

MKG do they do KK flavour ice cream? How fab would that be...

Spina wouldnt it be lovely to have a xmas day baby? I had twins due 31st dec and was very hopeful...but no they came on 17th oct!!!!! No patience, none at all....

MKG · 29/11/2006 22:18

So you just have to live with the pain for the next few months? You definitely need some of my ice cream

MKG · 29/11/2006 22:19

I've never seen any type of donut ice cream, just brownie and cookie dough.

largeginandtonic · 29/11/2006 22:26

Could be on to something there...mmmmm....donut ic cream....

largeginandtonic · 29/11/2006 22:27

Wonder how NJ is getting on! I think lulu is there too, she's been gone a while....wonder if she still has her miners hat and raincoat on..

MKG · 29/11/2006 22:33

I think the problem with donut ice cream would be that donuts themselves aren't great, they're just fried dough. It's the glaze, chocolate, cream, sugar, jelly that goes with it that makes them yummy. Alone, they're just bread.

MKG · 29/11/2006 22:34

I think that NJ is busy being swept by her husband. In more ways than one if you know what I'm saying.

lulumama · 29/11/2006 22:35

am back,,,,,raincoat not required !! hey ho.....calsworld...hows it going...did you know that michel odent says that if you get in a birth pool once you are 5 cm..you should have the baby within 2 hours ! how fab is that !!!!!!!!

MKG · 29/11/2006 22:36

I hope our labors are this exciting when it's time. Knowing me I'll get induced again, and I won't get all this excitement.

MKG · 29/11/2006 22:39

That's an interesting fact lulu. I think it all depends on technique though. I think it would have been less time for me if I wasn't a crap pusher. I dilated from 4-10 in 45 minutes, but I took my dear old time pushing. I was effective as far as technique goes, just took a lot of breaks.

MKG · 29/11/2006 22:40

NJ and her dh sitting in a tree S-W-E-E-P-I-N-G.
first comes love, than comes marriage, than comes a baby in the baby carriage.

carol3 · 29/11/2006 22:42

I took about an hour and half after getting into the pool does slow things I think, but much easier than on dry land for me.

lulumama · 29/11/2006 22:42

it depends....but the water is a very wonderful thing for birthing.. i pushed DD out in 30 mins......felt like i was just getting into my stride and there she wsa..

DS was an emergency cs..so nothing to compare.......

anyohoo....must go to bed..MKG..hope you feel better....and that you have a good day..

LG&T - you do make me laugh,,.and should i ever have another baby..will do my own sweep

NJ - good night,..sleep well or have the baby..you decide..

and to all the lurkers and all.....night ! xxxxxxxxxxxxx

largeginandtonic · 29/11/2006 22:43

Ah michel odent was just saying about him to a lady on due in may the other day. The french are quite brutal when it comes to pregnancy and birth, vaginal examinations at every antenatal visit and they actually push the baby down while the mother is pushing.. Its like directive labour taken to the extreme, not great. Any way i said they cant all be bad michel odent is so the opposite of all that!

lulumama · 29/11/2006 22:45

i didn;t have a water birth!!!!! just a quick (ish)one!!! sorry...sounded like i did !!

anyhoo...now i have confused everyoen.. am going xxxxx

largeginandtonic · 29/11/2006 22:49

MKG i hope you dont get induced again, you never know, each baby is so different. Remind me to ask you a cabbage patch kid question tomorrow.....night all

Hi NatalieJane.

I don't often look in the Childbirth bit, so it was chance that I came across your rather long thread!

I have read it from the start to here just now and I really feel for you.

I made it to 9 and a half months pregnant with all 3 of my DDs. I gave up all hope of ever going into labour, to the extent, that with DD2, I was working in a night club til 3am when 41 weeks pregnant!!

With DD3 I was extra determined to have a homebirth as I knew it would be my last chance. I got a fab reflexologist to fiddle with my feet and DD arrived 12 hours later at home.

You have been in excellent hands here with Lulumama.

I hope your little one arrives soon.

On the subject of names, my surname was Oliver, when I was married to my lovely, wonderful first husband, and his first name was William, as I saw on your list! When I first met him, I remember thinking, "Billy Oliver, what a perfect name!"

Thinking of you. Fingers crossed and all that.xx

MKG · 29/11/2006 23:00

OK did everyone hear that, I'm in charge, mainly because I'm the only one here.

NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 23:20

You're not alone anymore

Thanks for the encouragement 2ndtime, and at you reading the whole thread!!!

Well, that was an experience!! Not sure he was anywhere near where he should have been, but the second part of the procedings was very good Not really sure if it has done anything, the tightenings are tighter, but nothing else really.

And I was thinking, though not all the while I was away!! I think the new thread should be named in honer of Lulu, Marsy and LG&T (and MKG for back up), it really isn't my thread anymore.

I glad your "sweep" went well. I don't think my dh would have done that for me, the second part yes, the first no.

MKG · 29/11/2006 23:45

You never know, the second part could be all you need.

NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 23:55

Well, I kind of said if he didn't do the first part for me, I wouldn't do the second part for him, so he saw he didn't have much choice really!! LOL

No, he is very good with things like that, nothing really phases him!
