Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

LOL!! i know....just messing....

when i was in labour with DD, got to 3 cm ( finally) the midwife gave me pethidine..lvoely...and i climbed on the bed and groaned softly for about an hour..then i had the massivest contraction and my waters went with a bang...all over the bed,my nightie and ruined my shoes which i had kicked off under the bed ealier..they were filled with fluid and then blood ...they got left in the clinical waste bin..! my waters shot across about 2 foot of the bed and the floor..!

i said to DH - i think my waters have gone..no sh~*t!

..he said i;ll get the midwife....she said to him..are you sure ??

he said ooooooh yes!!!!!!!

i was 7 cm then after an hour of labour !!

she was born 2 1/4 hours later........!

lulumama · 29/11/2006 21:45

carol3 · 29/11/2006 21:45

I think i'm going to be disappointed when you have the baby and this thread ends it must be the longest ever am i in labour thread

MKG · 29/11/2006 21:48

How about dh comes to do the sweep and then you to . . . well you know . . . do the horizontal monkey dance. That might get you going.

NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 21:48

I was saying yesterday it must be a record, it isn't going to be long before someone starts piping up with 'can we have a new thread, this is taking ages to load' and then there will be a 'Am I in Labour? - Part two' then it will be special

We could split it into November series and December series!!

OK MKG, I'll let DH know that you said he should feel the very inards of me, and then see if he can do it again with something else!!! How romantic?!!! LOL

OP posts:
MKG · 29/11/2006 21:50

I think the title should be "This time I'm really in labor"

MKG · 29/11/2006 21:52

listen we all know that there are times when there is no romance in sex.

This baby was from "o.k. just shut up about it sex"

lulumama · 29/11/2006 21:52

Am in labour?

No

end of thread!

MKG · 29/11/2006 21:52

He helped get that baby in there, it's his duty to help get it out.

largeginandtonic · 29/11/2006 21:53

Ok am composed..ish...tell Dh to be very gentle. Two fingers only, index and middle, facing upwards. Get him to (no laughing) walk them back, he will feel the baby's head for sure as smooth and round. It's covered by your vaginal wall and very thin lower uterus, as he moves his fingers back slowly he will feel a ridge (end of nose!) He could feel a hole and then the other side of your cervix (a ring shape) If he finds the rim inside the cervix, tell him to run a finger round the inside of the rim, being very gentle. He wont harm the baby, it's still cushioned probably behind some more (yes more) jelly and the bag of waters.

Only let him do as much as you are comfortable with, slapping hands away is totally acceptable. It is tricky but not so difficult he shouldnt give it a go! He prbably doesnt need to wear a raincoat...

NatalieJane · 29/11/2006 21:54

No, I am saving that one for when I am in labour!!

I have seen that many peoples comments on other threads about the pad sniffing, it might have to be something like 'This is the extended pad sniffing thread' Or we could even go down the route of 'My DH is now a partially trained midwife!'

I'll get the umbrella

largeginandtonic · 29/11/2006 22:00

Am on the floor again, may move the pc down here......NJ's poor Dh......am off to the kitchen for supplies (soft ones, my wisdom teeth are coming through and are all infected )

MKG · 29/11/2006 22:02

LG&T are they going to rip out your wisdom teeth? or would they have to wait until after the baby?

MKG · 29/11/2006 22:03

Anyone want some Choc. Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream?

calsworld · 29/11/2006 22:03

Hi all...goodness, so much conversation and not even a hint of lemon drizzle cake? Does that mean I'm not too late?

Thought I'd borrow NJ's thread again for a quick update....

contractions have picked up in strength again since going a bit quieter this afternoon. Can still swear through them - does that count as talking? Don't feel in the slightest like going to bed..think DH has other ideas (and no, not for anything other than sleep!).

Feel like a bit of a fraud...how long can this go on for? (Please don't say seven weeks ) and are these contractions actually achieving anything?

I'm tired and I've flattened a completely new battery in my Tens machine, now onto battery number two, and as DH insisted that I wouldn't need three, we'll be stripping them out of the smoke detectors if this one goes flat! Or he'll be going late night shopping - muppet - why didn't he just do as he was told??? Advice - have a whole blimmin' pack of them to save you the worry...

Am starting to get a bit grumpy now too...off to skulk quietly for a while and try not to abuse DH too much

Oh - and when do I start to fill the pool?

C

spinasnowflake · 29/11/2006 22:06

This is better than any soap I've ever b/feed to.

Wishing you all the best NJ. I've being lurking on all your threads for the last seven weeks![stalker emoticon]

I'll miss you when you give birth.Perhaps I can take over from you!(like an understudy!) Due 25 Dec. Had contractions on and (mainly) off for 10 days. Do I get the gig?

largeginandtonic · 29/11/2006 22:12

Dont fill it yet, wait till you are contracting painfully every 5 mins or so. Im sure they are all doing something, it just takes a long time to get going. Bounce on a gym ball if you have one or think about your positioning, it could be all the pains are getting the LO in to a good position before putting you in to full blown labour. If you are tired go to sleep, or at least lie down, left side only....you may need the energy for later.

They will take the bottom two out MKG, they have been giving me gyp for 2 years, so ive been on a waiting list. As i moved in August i have to re register on the list here, i hope it doesnt mean i go back to the bottom... It's just the right one atm, they are going to have to knock me out so it will be after the baby is born. They said it will require my jaw breaking! Oh joy....

carol3 · 29/11/2006 22:12
