Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

Good evening

OK I have just worked out what it is I am feeling, you know that feeling you get before your period starts? Not any pain or anything, just that heavy, tight, almost tingly feeling you get when you know it is going to start within the hour or so? It is that.

Belly has been tight all over all night, with tightenings making it worse every now and then, not in any pattern or anything though, back still achey - for a change Bit of pressure every now and then in my bum, all the usual susprects really!

So who is in charge of the music and party hats tonight?

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 22:24

Ah, lightweight

I don't think it will lead to anything, due date is tomorrow, it would all be too perfect for him to be born on time!

Nooooooooo, I am being forced now into having to find something other than MN to keep me sane all night!!

Maybe I should make a start on the christmas shopping....?

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 22:40

I'm here NJ ra ra ra!

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 23:28

I think things are calming down here, I just know I am still going to be sat here in two weeks time, counting down the hours till they induce me the next day!

OP posts:
MKG · 28/11/2006 23:38

don't get down NJ. The baby has to come out sometime, and I'm pretty sure that if you have to endure two more weeks of this "is this it?" every day you won't care how the baby comes out. Stay positive.

By the way how is name search going?

MarsLady · 28/11/2006 23:40

Stop clock watching! That'll be slowing you down.

Cover all the clocks. Take off your watch and ignore the times of your postings.

Now darling... have a slice of cake!

Baby will be along soon!

Gingerbear · 28/11/2006 23:42

Marsy. What are you doing at the end of May next year?
Please be my Doula, you are more chillin' than a crate of iced beers. Just what a panicking labouing momma needs.

MKG · 28/11/2006 23:44

Do the English eat a lot of cake? Everyone keeps offering cake.

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 23:44

I think it was like I said, after having a few days of telling and willing myself not to go into labour, when I woke up this morning feeling better I was trying to convince myself that something would happen now. It is amazing how much you can talk your body into feeling, with out even realising that you are doing it!!

Seriously though, just how many chances does a body need to give birth?!!!

Still nothing definite on the name front. I think we will probably wait till he is born and see what jumps out at us!

Yeah, but you can't will yourself to feel the pains can you. You can read too much into it, but not imagine them. If it were close to my due date you better believe that every funny feeling I got would convince me it was time to go to the hospital.

MarsLady · 28/11/2006 23:47

MKG... it's not any cake! It's my lemon drizzle cake! lol

Gingerbear........ I'm sure I can find a slot for you (if I'm not sunning myself in St Lucia at the time lol)

NJ......... go to bed babe! HM hasn't delivered yet.. (as far as I know.. must check) theres' still time for the photo finish!

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 23:47

Mmmmm cake

Actually MKG, I am more of a savory sorta gal myself, but yes I'd say cakes and sweets are a big thing for most people in England!

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 23:51

Oh no, the feelings, pains, aches are all there, but I guess with the baby getting bigger/heavier/changing positions etc. the feelings can feel very different, and so then I talk myself into thinking this could be it, I haven't felt it like that before.

Still getting the tightenings, but that feeling of a period about to start has gone.

MarsLady · 28/11/2006 23:55

NatalieJane.... Go to SLEEP!

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 23:57

I'd love to, but I can't go to sleep, I can't lie down without the contractions going off the pain scale when they are like this.

OP posts:
prettymum · 28/11/2006 23:57

oooohhhh, this is exciting!! go bed and try and relax!! hopefully you'll have a goodnight sleep and have proper contractions in morning and you have a lot of energy to get you through!!!

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 23:59

I wish it would work like that prettymum!!

OP posts:
MKG · 28/11/2006 23:59

I love cakes too, but like you NJ I would much prefer something savory. Speaking, I must think about what I want for dinner, but I'm not even hungry. Did ya here that, a pregnant woman just said she's not hungry.

MarsLady · 29/11/2006 00:01

Maybe that's what you need to do to get the contractions to really kick in and for labour to be fully established. Go lie down woman (on your left side)

Take the laptop with you!

prettymum · 29/11/2006 00:03

i bet you're 1 cm dilated now!
