Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

I'm still disinterestedly lurking.

NJ said "I don't know if it is just because I am feeling better and so I am geting back to being desperate to give birth, or if there is something starting, but feeling slightly sick, loads of tightenings today with back pain, and although I am not sat here thinking this is it, I am getting a feeling that it isn't going to be too much longer. Like I said though, it could just be positive thinking after feeling poorly."

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 16:13

Lulu, you should know never to leave the house, tut tut!

There wasn't anymore great revalations since the self examination bit I don't think...

I do have a feeling something is going to happen soon though, can't put my finger on it, and it might just be wishful thinking after being poorly, but something is definitely going on in there.

I am away for a bit, I am going to ring my sister and jump in the bath, my poor back...

Catch you all later no doubt xxx

Just seen this on Orange homepage, thought it would give you all a smile :

'Pregnant' man in trouble

A South African man is in trouble after he faked a sick note which said he needed time off work because he was pregnant.

Magistrates in Vereeniging, near Johannesburg, fined Charles Sibindana, 27, £70 for the forgery, reports the Sapa agency.

Sibindana stole a medical certificate from a health centre used by his pregnant girlfriend, but was apparently unaware that only women consulted gynaecologists.

Magistrate Bruno Van Eeden jokingly warned Sibindana "not to walk around faking sick letters from gynaecologists".

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL I really am going now!

Creena · 28/11/2006 17:13

C'mon, NJ! Never mind having a bath to ease your back pain - there are mn'ers here desperate for information (in a completely uninterested way obviously)!

twelvedaysofchristmas · 28/11/2006 17:24

Will we actually GET photos of the photo finish? Mumsnet Birth ALMOST Live... Like that telly show, whatsitcalled...

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 17:58

Bath was lovely, I was brave and put some clary sage oil in, still feeling 'funny' there are definite tightenings, something that borders on pain but before I can figure out exactly where it hurts, it is gone (????) lots of pressure from time to time in bum, nothing very certain, just a funny feeling.

It hasn't picked up pace or gotten stronger or anything from earlier on though so I am not getting too excited, and still think it probably has as much to do with feeling better today, and so mentally feeling ready to labour, after the last few days of hoping and praying nothing would happen while I was ill.

My back is killing me, it seems to have been constant these last few days, I guess it is just the weight of him now.

Oh and we will be taking photos, one thing I wish we had of DS, he was probably only a minute old if that for his first picture, but that still seems too long, this time there will be photos all the way through!!

I'm not letting DH film the birth though, unless I am very quiet, there is no way I could watch myself go through that!!

lulumama · 28/11/2006 18:02

do a bit of nipple stim..that can help!!

lulumama · 28/11/2006 18:03

there is video of babylulu as she is being placed onto me, before she has taken a breath and cried...all bloody and red and arms out like she is really surprised!! lovely....

MarsLady · 28/11/2006 18:05

Smooching is good! Lots of kissing and cuddling. It's the oxytocin which helps the labour. That's what's released with the contractions and also with the smooching.

I won't begin to go into the full orgasm thing. I'll leave that to LulaDoula!

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 18:07

LOL Lulu, I think DS would wonder what on earth I am doing! DH might quite like it though....!! Maybe after DS has gone to bed LOL

I don't fancy the smooching at the moment, snotty noses, coughing and germs aren't all that romantic!! I can do the cuddling though

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 18:11

LOL Mellowma, I'd expect that if the timing was perfect, it would be quite an experience for DH...! LOL

to paraphrase Ina May Gaskin..writer of many wonderful books including spiritual midwifery..

it was all that sexy energy that got the baby in there. so you can use it to get the baby out !

definitely get a bit jiggy!!!

we are getting tres silly, no???

MarsLady · 28/11/2006 18:13

Well if you can ignore the snotty noses lol!

Okay then. What about a bit of stimulation and not just ye olde nipples?

lulumama · 28/11/2006 18:13

and she is a midwife too! the only midwife after whom an obstetric manouevre has been named!

see, learning as we go !!

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 18:15

Maybe by the weekend Lulu, but for now it is a big no no!!

Besides, I have my sweep booked for tomorrow, and I wouldn't want to midwife to find any erm... leftovers IYSWIM? (Sorry, that was even yukky for me!)
