Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

It is a bit yuk though isn't it? Or is it just me? I don't mean the actual erm... feeling around as such, I mean to actually touch something on the inside of your body?

Definitely a job for the DH, they get such an easy time of it while we are pregnant and then we have to give birth, a bit of rummaging wouldn't hurt them!

Isn't it supposed to feel like pursed lips if it has started to soften?

largeginandtonic · 28/11/2006 14:02

A baby leg...HA, HA, HA

Have lost it now, tears streaming down my face.....

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 14:03

Still can't see me going in there for a look about, noses and lips should be on your face, not... well, anywhere else! Gives me the heebiejeebies just thinking about it.

Oh get on with it, put some marigolds on.

MKG · 28/11/2006 14:06

NJ, just go and yank that baby out yourself. Forget the plunger just reach up there and rip him out.

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 14:09

No way, not till Saturday, I want to win the bet

largeginandtonic · 28/11/2006 14:13

I said saturday too NJ....!

MKG · 28/11/2006 14:16

How weird would it be to actually deliver your own baby though. That is my big fear. I don't want to see or do anything.

largeginandtonic · 28/11/2006 14:18

Ohmigod, thats my worst fear too MKG, with ds being a 40 minute labour and dh possibly being away. You are miles from anywhere arent you MKG? Scary thought

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 14:18

Our friends daughter had a baby back in February, her first child, she went into labour, her dad went to get the car started and put the bag in the boot etc. walked back in the house to see the baby being born right there and then! She'd had no pain or anything, it just started and within 10 minutes he was born.

Aaaaaggghhhh, see it can happen, terrifying. Hopefully we will have Mars or Lululoula around to keep us calm.

NatalieJane · 28/11/2006 14:20

I think I could handle labouring on my own, but my biggest worry is if DS is about and I am alone with him. I know it is daft because he could ring DH, or even if I am able to watch him he can go and knock nextdoor so we wouldn't be alone for long but just hate the thought of him being on his own with a screaming banshee woman who looks like his mum!

Your assuming you are actually going to go in to labour....

Kelly1978 · 28/11/2006 14:23

pmsl @ the self examination comments. I really should have kept my mouth shut.

fwiw once it was opne it didn't feel anything liek a nose or lips! I could feel the baby's head (and had no chance of pulling that out) and a hard circular ridge which was the cervix.

I do remember a midwife once tellign me about an exmanation that she did where the baby had presented face first, and she felt up there and did find a nose and lips - the baby's!
