Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

Before I go, I am getting what feels like little electric shocks going across the top of my bump, is that OK?

This is going to be a long day.

I'm glad Thanksgiving dinner isn't until 2pm here which is . . .hold on I'm doing the math . . . . 7pm there.

MKG · 23/11/2006 13:38

If your not holding the toaster while taking a bath, I'd say that the electric shocks could be a good thing. Maybe it is all happening right now.

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 13:41

No, no toaster holding going on, I can't hold pads, toasters, sniff and bathe all at the same time you know LOL

Right I am off for a bit, I am starting to wonder if announcing things on MN cause them to come to an abrupt halt!!! LOL

NJ,

Keep your sense of humor. I'll keep cracking jokes to make you laugh.

largeginandtonic · 23/11/2006 13:47

Good grief just got sooo excited as ive been out all morning, flipped the thread and read it from my post this morning. I thought ohmigod she is in labour....

Oh well NJ, dont give up hope yet, keep sniffing your pants it could be waters leaking and just a slow start. Am so not excited though....

Have been in to town to buy those magic pants that start at your thighs and come up to your arm pits. When i asked the woman for help clearly she thought i had lost the plot, and was trying to disguise my bump...lol... Until i explained i have a slinky dress to wear in 2 weeks and wanted to disguise all my other bumps not the one containing a baby

So NJ what delights do you have planned this avo then? Not having a baby being high on the list of course.

A 13lb baby....impossible....dont believe the midwife, and easpecially dont believe the scan for estimating the growth, they are so rarely right. I have seen a 13lb 11oz baby but it was a section and the woman had gestational diabetes.

Afternoon lulu anyone signed you up for doulaing yet? You must be so excited, do you have a mentor doula till you get your first birth?

Still not waiting for news NJ.....

lulumama · 23/11/2006 14:32

see you later...kisses to all! this is the party thread, no?

largeginandtonic · 23/11/2006 14:38

Party thread indeed lulu...fancy a tiramasu latte, had one in costa coffee this morning so yummy, anyone else?

Im off to do the school run too lulu, see you there

Not even mentioning the possible baby coming out of her....

lulumama · 23/11/2006 16:52

back, been to asda, making supper, waiting for DH...like i am remotely bothered about NJ!

Hi LG&T - that latte was delicious..and calorie free, no?

largeginandtonic · 23/11/2006 17:03

I thought so too lulu, def calorie free, although dont really care as its christmas soon. As i already look like i hace santas belly...

Am making supper too, jackets tonight with beans and cheese, maybe an egg? Wonder what NJ is having, not that im remotely concerned......

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 17:04

No baby, some contractions, very tight but not painful and not regular, still wet, still can't describe the smell, but it isn't wee, I think the baby has fully engaged though, not only with all of the pressure but I can get nearly two flat hands under my boobs now before you can feel the top of the uterus (if that makes any sense to you?!!)

But some good news is I think DS has started to turn the corner, he is still led on the sofa and obviously poorly, but he seems a lot brighter, but then I have thought that most afternoons this week for him to go back downhill in the evening so who knows?

Seems like neither of my kids can make their bloody minds up!!! Grrrrr!!!

I haven't got a clue what we are having, DH does all of the cooking in our house, but I do fancy something with gravey, maybe pie and mash or somthing like that - if he can fit it in betwen looking after the pair of us lazy lay abouts on the sofa all night!! LOL

It has gone really quickly, I really thought these last few weeks would drag by, but we have been so busy getting the house sorted and then getting the stuff all sorted for the home birth, if he hasn't put an apearance in by the weekend, it will be the first one we have had with nothing to do since I was about 3 months!

I have got period pains Not getting excited..... and I said I wasn't going to divulge whats going on anymore, everytime I type whats going on, the symptom dissapears....!

There's a lot of stretching to go on NJ. Keep up the lack of interest and don't forget to sit on your birthing ball or tilt forward on the chair. Wiggle your hips and gentle rock.

Not interested in the slightest. Nope. Not me! No sirree!

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 17:37

The baby is going mad in there again, I can't ever decide if he starts going mad and the contractions and pains and everything else starts, or if it all starts and then he starts wriggling.

I know three weeks is nothing compared to the nine I was facing when all of this started, but seriously, can this really go on for another 3 weeks?

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 17:37

Ooops meant to say I am sat on the birthing ball at the computer
