Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

Am due on Sunday, but have had enough!!

Does anyone enjoy the last couple of weeks? Every time I get a twinge, I think "Is this it?" and every time I'm disappointed!!

And it's even worse to think that it would be at least another 2 weeks until they'd induce me!

Baby is massive too - MW estimated 13lbs yesterday...

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 13:07

Ok, it doesn't smell like wee, but wouldn't really say sweet either, I don't think... the pad wasn't soaked through or anything so possibly was just discharge?

Still got rumbling back ache and belly is really tight, and it hurts to walk with my legs anywhere near together...

13 lbs - with external palpation!!

how big first baby?

Sugarfree · 23/11/2006 13:08

They told me ds2 was 11-12lbs+ and he was my smallest at 8lbs 6oz.Don't listen unless your mw has xray vision.

lulumama · 23/11/2006 13:08

any more pains NJ?

MKG · 23/11/2006 13:10

I'm glad I finished my frosted flakes before checking in again.

You guys are a crazy bunch of pad sniffers.

Wow, or ow, 13lb is pretty big, I'm surprised they would let you go overdue if they really think the baby will be that big!

No more contractions, and baby has gone quiet again, he was squirming with the contractions last time.

You are only crazy if you sniff other peoples' pads IMO,your own is fine.(as long as you do it in private)

katyjo · 23/11/2006 13:12

My waters kind of leaked too! I didn't go to hospital for 2 days cos I thought I had wet myself. I had been sniffing my knickers regularly, and I had remmbered from antenatal class that waters have a slightly antiseptic smell, I think it smells like chlorine.
Good luck NJ

come on NJ, your just doing this to try and make us all care arent you

Well we dont

MKG · 23/11/2006 13:14

TrixieVix,

You're stats sound like my sister and her dh. My niece was born at 42 weeks weighing in at 6 lbs 11ozs and measuring 21 inches. My newphew was born at 38 weeks and weighed 7.5 lbs and measured 22 inches.

My niece is 3 and wears clothes for a 5 year old. My nephew is six months and is wearing 12-18 month clothes.

MKG · 23/11/2006 13:15

Sugarfree

I've never seen a group of people so excited to know how someone's pad smells.

lulumama · 23/11/2006 13:16

enough with the sniffing !! happy thanksgiving MKG!!

well... 13 lbs might not be out of the question then ! but unlikely IMHO!! but what do i know!!!!

you tend to grow babies you can birth !!! i was mahoosive with DD and had a growth scan at 34 weeks as measuring 37......she was 7 lbs 8 !!!!!!!!

TrixieVix · 23/11/2006 13:16

DH walked in on my sniffing my knickers yesterday and thought I'd gone mental!! Thought checking to see if they smelt sweet wasn't a plausable explanation, and wouldn't believe me until I made him read a paragraph in one of my maternity books

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 13:17

Gawd, all of these people sat round reading what my pad smells like. Thanks everyone, but as I said, this isn't the first time we have been sat counting contractions so don't get excited yet, I'm certainly not.

I wouldn't say it smelt like chlorine either, just kind of a... bodily smell... LOL Sorry, I can't describe it, it didn't smell like wee, or fanjo, or sex, or anything else like that.

MKG..

Rhubarb · 23/11/2006 13:18

Now you see, I never knew that all I had to do was to smell my pants to find out if I was in labour or not! There was me thinking the pain would be the obvious giveaway!

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 13:19

Hate to say it actually but everything has stopped again...

Still tight belly and back ache but no contractions/pressure for a while now.

OP posts:
Sugarfree · 23/11/2006 13:21

Oh,well.I'll carry on lurking then.

MKG · 23/11/2006 13:22

I tearing up because the visualisation of a bunch of people smelling their pads and underwear is all too graphic and hysterical. Top that with pregnancy hormones, and the fact that it's still really early here 8:30am. I never tear up when laughing.

I'm going to have the image of a bunch of women smelling their panties all day.

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 13:24

LOL

I should be pleased, or at least relieved really, a newborn shouldn't be exposed to DS at the moment, but I feel like shit now!!! LOL And it isn't funny, but if I don't laugh and all that...!

OP posts:
lulumama · 23/11/2006 13:34

i really cannot do this anymore..am actually quite delicate! the pad sniffing is all too much!

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 13:35

Hold on, all hasn't stopped, contractions are back, with pressure.

I am going to go and do something, I don't want to sit and count them again! Will obviously let you all know if anything comes of it....

OP posts:
NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 13:36

LOL Lulu, I bet you tell your first 'client' to sniff her pad!!!
