Am I in labour???

I know it has been done 1000 times before, but if nothing else I just want something to do with myself while my body decides what it is going to do.

I felt fine all day, got to about about 5 o'clock-ish, and very suddenly started to feel sick, didn't want to eat dinner but DH made me eat some toast which perked me up a bit, have been having fairly mild but intense contractions (can you have mild and intense at the same time?!!) with a tiny bit of back pain, coming every 8-10 minutes or so. The contractions aren't painful, but just really tight, and the baby has dropped really low.

Anyone who has followed the last 5 weeks with me, this is completely different to every contraction I have had before!

I actually feel really silly posting this, in case it turns out to be nothing, but I am bored and can't concentrate on the telly, so thought it would at least take some time up.

NJ,

Don't worry about moaning I'll be moaning like you in another 26 weeks as am 14 weeks today. I get you completely. Thank you for the information on your show though. I was eating my frosted flakes, and well I'm not anymore.

Try to get some rest, and I hope your ds is doing better.

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 12:19

Hey, Happy Thanksgiving Sorry about your frosted flakes, but nothing seems real until you have described it all in the finest detail! LOL I have some more TMI in a second so close your eyes if you want!!

I do feel bad for moaning, you only have to look round MN and see people who are really ill with life threatening illnesses, and here I am moaning about the 'flu and no sleep!

And my TMI is, I have either just lost a hell of an amount of discharge, wet myself , or my waters are leaking. I had some khaki colour knickers on, so I can't work out the colour, but it was enough to wet through to my trousers, but nowhere near a gush, I have changed said knickers and trousers, and put a pad on, but don't really know what I am looking for? No contractions but belly is really really tight all the time, and have had pressure on an off in my bum and in the front all morning with a bit of back ache - I had put it all down to slouching on the sofa for most of the night!!

NJ,

I want to say that this may be it, but I won't because with you I think all of MN has though that everyday. It does sound like you're waters are going. My friend went in her pants, and though she peed herself. She didn't notice anything until she went to the bathroom and it didn't look like pee. She had her mom and dh investigate it with her and they all decided it was her waters. She lives two block away from the hospital so they walked over, leaving a trail of leaking waters behind them.

I can't help but laugh at that story.

I'll be in your shoes too. I was induced with my ds, so I have no idea what going into labor on my own is like.

MKG · 23/11/2006 12:29

It would be nice if your new ds was born on Thanksgiving though.

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 12:35

Well I am not getting excited yet, but I have just had a contraction..... (time was 12.33 on my clock - just so I know!!)

I don't know if I am hoping this is it or not now with DS as he is!!

It will probably turn out to be nothing - again!

Another contraction 12.40, they are only lasting about 40-50 seconds long.

Should I be ringing DH do you think?

lulumama · 23/11/2006 12:44

is he far away?

can you do it before school run please if you are having the baby? ta!

LOL at MKG and her frosted flakes !

sleepysooz · 23/11/2006 12:47

NJ - my waters didn't break in the gushing manner, so good luck this sounds like it, I leaked for ages, then had my twins 6 hours later!

I have been watching this sight since the weekend and am sooooo excited for you!

Good luck!

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 12:47

I don't know where he is today, he has been fairly local all week, so I expect sods law will mean he is a while away today when I might need him!!

How long before I go and check the pad? What does it mean if the forewaters have gone? If this turns out to be nothing again I am warning you all now, it isn't going to be pretty!! LOL

OP posts:
lulumama · 23/11/2006 12:51

if LO partially engaged, then he sort of plugs the gap and the waters in front of his head can leak..whereas the water behind can't! mine went and the midwife said i had wet my pants..DD born 36 hours later!

amniotic fluid smells different to wee !

NatalieJane · 23/11/2006 12:52

Thanks Sooz, please don't get excited though, if you haven't already worked it out, this isn't the first time we have been sat around waiting for the next contraction!! LOL

It has already been 11 minutes since the last one, are they on their way out before they even got started already?!

OP posts:
lulumama · 23/11/2006 12:52
