Braxton hicks or labour?

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 16/02/2015 19:17

Am currently 39 +6 for the last few hours I've noticed a dull period type pain that occasionally kind of spikes then disappears. As far as I know I haven't had any braxton hicks so far and really don't know how to tell if this is actually the beginning or just me wishful thinking.

Oh the disappointment. I gave birth 5 days ago and remember getting to those first cms. Worst part by far. Get some rest if you can, I couldn't and am still functioning, some how. Hope it's not too long.

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 17/02/2015 05:47

Literally impossible to sleep, am so tired already no idea how I'm going to get through this contraction are lasting just under a minute and coming every 2-3 minutes still losing bits of the mucus plug although it is now getting a lot pinker

Paracetamol will help, daft as it seems.

PoppySausage · 17/02/2015 06:15

Good luck! Mine were like that, close from the start. Go back if you can't manage, don't stress yourself out too much about when

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 17/02/2015 06:20

It's so painful I can't even stand/move

bwow · 17/02/2015 06:33

You will do it. I did it after not having a nights sleeps and then it taking all day. I begged to go into hospital. I arrived at 2-3cm 4 hours later I was 4 and had some gas and air, the relief was immense. A 3 hour drive though! Phone again.

WhispersOfWickedness · 17/02/2015 07:04

Hope you have gone in/phoned by now Smile
Am also very impressed that you managed a 3 hour car journey!
Hope baby arrived safely today Smile

JugglingLife · 17/02/2015 07:15

How exciting! Sounds like baby will be here soon (ish), good luck stillinshock, you're amazing.

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 17/02/2015 10:09

Been in to see midwife again she thinks we are still only in early stages although didn't do an internal exam so don't know how accurate this is Confused am literally dead in my feet

JugglingLife · 17/02/2015 10:22

You need to try and eat and have a nap. I know it's easier said than done but it's going to be a potentially long day. Will be thinking of you OP. Is DH with you?

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 17/02/2015 10:25

Paracetamol will take the edge off and let you rest a bit.

ISolemnlySwearImUptoNoGood · 17/02/2015 10:34

Could you stand to get in the bath and have DH pour some warm water over your back and bum? It might relax you enough to allow you some sleep after.

ISolemnlySwearImUptoNoGood · 17/02/2015 10:34

Sorry bump not bum!

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 17/02/2015 11:08

Been taking paracetamol regularly it its not touching it x DH is home and is being amazing x don't know what I'd have done without him, have some aromatherapy oils for bath from midwife that's going to try

bwow · 17/02/2015 11:36

I had pain in my back and found lots of pressure put on my back eased it. My bath at home was a waste of time, not deep enough. With you on the paracetamol! Breathing did help, I held dh hand and pictured blowing the pain into him. I vomited my last meal from the night before, at around 10 am and didn't eat anything other than a yogurt til the morning after I delivered! I managed to drink though. Keep trying to wee though. I had a catheter as bladder was so full.

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 17/02/2015 13:48

I really do admire anyone that has done this with just gas and air literally feel like crying non stop

OP posts:
Mrscog · 17/02/2015 13:54

Have you got your hands on any gas and air yet?

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 17/02/2015 13:56

No they have toldme I can't go back to hospital until contractions are a lot worse or I am genuinely too exhausted to continue

OP posts:
gallicgirl · 17/02/2015 14:05

Well if you turn up and insist on staying, I don't see how they can escort you off the premises!

Glad I have a home birth booked if this kind of shenanigans is normal.

Mrscog · 17/02/2015 14:06

Well when you do get your hands on some it really should help take you off to a lovely floaty place :) Although if you feel like crying non stop and you can't stand I would consider you meet their criteria. Hope it's not long now :)

bwow · 17/02/2015 14:25

I thought that OP! Wait til you have the first suck before you judge! I was in tears at home and maintaining I wasnt doing it. I arrived at the hospital and said I wouldn't be going home... I have pictures of myself at 9cm smiling, looking drunk! If it suits you I'm sure you'll do fine on it. Hang on it there. I still maintain it was the hardest part.
