I'm in labour - when do I phone the labour ward?

This is my 2nd pg, and I'm having contractions today and it hurts I've been having them since 2am this morning they are every 10 mins or so - haven't changed since - except that they are lasting longer and more painful. I don't want to go into hospital too early, but when should I phone the labour ward to go in? I'm scared too.

Not a wuss! Take the paracetamol - and any drugs you have handy (or is that not a good idea? ) Nobody likes pain, except some very strange Tory MPs...

Can you believe that I am STILL here - still stuck on 10 min contractions. At this rate this 2nd labour will last longer than my 1st. And here was i thinking that subsequent labours were meant to be faster. I think my body has convientantly forgot about my last labour 3.5yrs ago

Metro - your contractions must be prelabour ones. They can be regular and painful and soften the cervix in preparation for established labour. It can go on for a couple of days. Try and rest and ignore them. Don't let them wear you down but think positively about them. Take paracetamol, bath again if need be and try to get some sleep. They will either stop or they will change into the real thing. You will recognised the difference. Well done for staying at home. Best to stay away from the hospital during this stage honestly. Fingers crossed for tonight

littlemissbossy · 21/04/2004 19:06

Sorry to hear that you're still here ... have been checking this thread throughout today for any progress!! Remember to try and get lots of rest, if possible, ready for when established labour arrive. Good luck and keep us posted

hi Metrobaby,

It sounds very like my second labour, a day of regular contractions before it really got going. like you I felt cheated after so many people talking about faster second labours! but it was easier in the end. hope yours will be too.

keep going and remember it's grim but I am still jealous you are there....

Frenchgirl · 21/04/2004 19:11

hope you can have some rest tonight metrobaby, keep your strength up!

Metrobaby · 21/04/2004 19:35
