1st timer here, been having steady contractions (with pain but not unbearable pain) from 4pm this afternoon to now, was every 10-15 minutes, now every 8 minutes. Bloody show at 11pm. Hurts too much to sleep so got up and ate some noodles. Can't wake the inlaws (who would be taking me to hospital) at this time, and hospital said only go at 5 cm... DH in London (I'm in Belgium) and also don't want to wake him just yet...

If anyone's up I'd really appreciate your support, just a friendly face!

hi all, after a night of very little sleep, DS1 woke up demanding his mummy! BH still there, but they are quite irregular in timing and strengh. I really hope this "practice" pays off in the end . Today, however, I had to cancelled a meal I was hosting as I feel totally tired, and I can hardly walk (walking seems to bring on stronger BH!) All I feel like doing is to sit on my birthing ball watching tv like a zombie, or if possible at all, get some sleep.

I am very aware of the risk of Strep B by now, having read so many threads and advice from mums, I will make sure that if I feel I am starting labour I go straight to hospital and have the antibiotics given to me.

how are you feeling marthahm? I was also following progress of gemitygem, hopefully she had her baby by now!

thanks captaindippy - in a way I hope you are right and begining labour. I find it so difficult to walk around with this giant bump and chasing a little one! On the other hand, I was very overdue the first time, so I wonder if I will be early now? I will keep posting

Hope it is the beginning of labour too - I remember only too well having a big bump and running around after a wee one. How old is your toddler?? Keep active!! My 1st was 4 days late and my 2nd was 4 1/2 weeks early!! Premature / early labour is often associated with Strep B infection, so it is v.poss. Did you have the Strep B with your 1st?? Keep posting!!

Still here! BH are all over the place, very irregular though... how about you marthahm?? are you still there?

with DS1 I was not tested for Strep B, so I don't know.... however, my guess would be that I was, otherwise how come can I be with one and not with the other?? If I was, then we were quite lucky, as we had a good labour (although it was long).

any moment now ladies.... any news from gemitygem?

Hi everyone, I'm playing the waiting game too, due 8 days ago, had a sweep on Saturday, intermitent period type pains since due date but nothing else until tonight and now I've had a show. Back is aching but no other signs I'm hoping for a home birth and I really don't want to be induced again, so I'm off for a clary sage bath and some bouncing on my ball!!

Good luck everyone, I hope we are all holding our babies very soon.

Hi booge - to me that sounds a real start of labour!! how exciting! is this number 2 or 3? is everything ready for your homebirth? good luck and keep posting, I can't wait to hear your news...

re. clary sage bath - is that ment to help with labour? just asking, as I am tempted to have a nice bath too, but never know what salts to use (or not to use)

I can sympathise with all of you waiting and wondering if your twinges are finally the start of somehting you have been waiting for for 9months. I was 8days late with ds2 but even then when the contractions finally started it took me w hile to realise they were the real thing. Id had a back to back labour with ds1 and also my waters had broke 2hrs before the contractions started so i was expecting something similar with ds2. The labour had also lasted 22hrs and although i knew 2nd babies often came quicker i was still expecting it to take at least 12hrs. As it happened i started contracting at 3am, sat up on my own clock watching(not wanting to wake dh until i knew i was def in labour)then suddenly at 6am i realised that the contractions were coming thick and fast. I phoned my parents to tell them they needed to ome round to look after ds1 but said they had plenty of time to have breakfast first, woke dh up, got dressed, all in a clam manner because although the contractions were lasting longer and coming quicker i still thought i had hours to go. As it turned out i got to hospital at 8am and ds2 was born 55mins later. Im now expecting baby no3 and still have no idea what to expect when i go in labour this time. Anything can happen.

Good luck to all you playing the waiting game. Im sure you will know when you need to go to hospital, but its still nerve wrecking. Do you wait a bit longer or risk going in too early. Its a horrible thing to have to worry about when really you should just be concentrating on staying calm. Hope theres lots of baby news soon

Hi Princesitalinda, I've been recommended Clary Sage and lavender for both baths and in a carrier oil for massage to bring on labour. I don't know if it works but it smells lovely and is v. relaxing. I'm just wondering if I should stop procrastinating and pack a hospital bag just in case....

Oh yes, this is no 2 for me as well, I know exactly what you mean about chasing a little one with a big bump! Maybe the exercies will send us into labour, being induced last time I don't know what going into labour naturally is like.

I used clary sage - and ahve had 4 rapid and easy (so to speak) labours - 1 on the day, 3 early

Booge - you could be having a back ache labour rather than contractions

Princesitalinda · 09/10/2006 21:23

booge - thanks for tip on clary sage, if nothing happens today, I will def. get it for tomorrow... have you tried it before? Is it a matter of having several bath or the one would do the trick? sorry for asking, but taking any advice now

ps. I think you should be packing your bags!

Report
Apronscreams · 09/10/2006 21:25

you can add some drops to the bath or put some with a little oil and rub it on your bump. I used to open and inhale the bottle hoping to encourage labour

Still nothing here, but I'm having a 2nd sweep today and still have backache. I'm off for a swim too to see if that helps. Clary sage apparently only helps get you going if your cervix is ready.

Any news anyone?????

good luck booge! keep us posted with any news, I am sending you good baby vibes

on my side still lots of BHs, but not the real thing yet... Sorry to be so graphic, but now I notice a lot of mucousy discharge... is that the "plug" mentioned in books/threads etc? how does the "plug" look like? and is it just one big discharge or several? sorry, but I have to ask the question, no idea, but want to know if it is as I've been told is one of the signs of early labour....

Sounds like your show to me Had my second sweep this afternoon, got another one on Thursday and if that doesn't work an appointment for an accessment on Friday. I have said I will be induced on Tuesday if nothing happens before then.

walk booge - thats my advice (preferably a nice circulare route so you aren't too far from home) absolutely convinced i waked three of mine out - no 4 was stubborn and i walked miles and miles but she wasn't going anywhere. Its worth a try if you've had enough

is booge still around or did the clary sage finally do the trick? Any news marthahm?
