Please help.
I've will have had the propess tampon thing in for 30 hours at 1am.
I've had midwives examining left right and centre. It's fallen out onto the bed with a load of mucus and put back in.
I've had them do a spectrum(?) to see what was happening, torches and all, and have taken a swab to see if it was waters or not (they don't think it is) and am waiting for the result to come back.
I am not dilated. My cervix is tucked right around to one side. Apparently it's started to soften.
A doctor will come at 1am to take it out and examine me again.
I am so, so sore, I don't think I can keep on having these examinations. Each time they've done one, it's been more painful than the last (and a midwife told me this would be the case).
They've said the doctor will give me my options when he examines me, but I don't know what they are.
What is the next step?
What can I refuse/request?
Thank you.

All the best for today, I'll be thinking of you! Please update us with the viral stats when you're able to.

Hobby2014 · 15/08/2014 09:17

Thanks all.
Waiting to go down to surgery now.
All naked in my gown and everything.
All the staff that'll be there have been round and been lovely so I'm not so scared now.
Will hopefully see you on the otherside with some baby news in a few hours :)

Impala77 · 15/08/2014 11:32

Can I ask, why don't they have to have consent for a forceps delivery? I was never asked, I was told this is what we are doing.
On another note good luck hobby, all will be fine and in the long run i bet you'll be glad you had a cs.

Thurlow · 15/08/2014 12:03

I don't know, impala. I would have assumed so but maybe they don't if they are doing it as an absolute emergency?

GingerRodgers · 15/08/2014 12:07

Hope all's gone well hobby. Can't wait to hear the good news Thanks

That little one will be with you in no time - the waiting is crap though!

LaVolcan · 15/08/2014 15:00

You have to wonder why there was quite the rush to induce, if it's acceptable to keep the OP waiting now.

Hope you are soon cuddling the little one soon, OP.

DinoSnores · 15/08/2014 15:31

"You have to wonder why there was quite the rush to induce, if it's acceptable to keep the OP waiting now."

It's not that hard.

Because there are a limited number of doctors, anaesthetists, OPDs, scrub nurses and theatres and perhaps emergencies of a more urgent nature have needed priority.

They won't want to make the OP wait! Hmm

Hope you are doing okay, hobby, and that it is very soon for you before you meet your baby.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 15/08/2014 15:53

Good luck op. Smile

PicandMinx · 15/08/2014 18:36

In answer to Impala - consent MUST be obtained before any procedure. A MW told the OP that she had to have an internal. Not true. The MW was using her position to bully the OP. Any procedure carried out without your consent is assault. If forceps are used on you without your explicit informed consent, you have grounds for a complaint. Although if you ask for a copy of your notes you may find that your "consent" was given, as IME some HCP will write lies on your medical records to protect themselves. If challenged, they will close ranks and deny any wrongdoing.

Good luck for today OP.

Titsalinabumsquash · 15/08/2014 18:43

Good luck Hobby Thanks you're incredibly brave. I hope you're cuddling your baby now.

Impala77 · 15/08/2014 18:45

Picandminx I wasn't asked I was told, we weren't told of any dangers involved etc. It was a rotational forceps as baby's head was wrong way around. I've only found out since that had they turned her head the wrong way she would have broken her neck!!! I also wasn't told I could end up incontinent and have prolapses, which I have had to have surgery to fix! I agree though if I access my records it probably has a completely different story! !

nannyj · 15/08/2014 18:54

I went through a similar thing to you and had the drip after 12 examinations. Very painful and ended up not working anyway. They should have done a c section when they first started talking about it and would have saved a lot of pain. Hope all goes well.

Fairylea · 15/08/2014 18:54

Impala the same thing happened to me but with ventouse and episiotomy gone wrong.... I made a formal complaint against the hospital (mayday Croydon, not afraid to say it). Absolutely diabolical in 2003. I hope it's better more recently. One of the midwives I had told me I was being daft when I asked for pain relief during internals because "women in Africa give birth hanging from trees with none of this painkiller nonsense". That particular midwife was sacked as a result (not just this comment but a whole host of comments and assaults during my induction).

PacificDogwood · 15/08/2014 19:04

I have been thinking of you today, Hobby, and hope you are enjoying newborn cuddles by now Thanks

Impala77 · 15/08/2014 20:06

Fairylea it does seem there's good and bad as with all professions I just can't get my head round it all, I also had pnd and ptsd, I still suffer nightmares and flashbacks 20 months on. If I had been planning anymore kids that experience would have put an end to that! I did complain to the hospital and basically got a "sod off" reply that said all my problems were caused by pregnancy and vaginal birth and nothing to do with the forceps!!!!

Fairylea · 15/08/2014 20:15

Impala are we the same person?! :)

I had ptsd and pnd for 2 years after having dd. In my complaint the hospital I said my treatment had put me off having more dc for life. I ended up on the maximum dose of citalopram 60mg for several years. I walked through my dds baby years in a depressed and traumatised haze.

It was only 10 year later and 2 divorces later (one related to my birth with dd, being with my her dad reminded me of it all) that I met my now dh and decided I'd like another child. I had to fight tooth and nail to get them to agree to let me have a c section. In the end they did - completely different area etc. It was wonderful. I recovered easily and bonded with ds straight away. Dd and I have a wonderful relationship now and I love both my dc equally but dds birth was a nightmare I wouldn't wish on anyone.
