Please help.
I've will have had the propess tampon thing in for 30 hours at 1am.
I've had midwives examining left right and centre. It's fallen out onto the bed with a load of mucus and put back in.
I've had them do a spectrum(?) to see what was happening, torches and all, and have taken a swab to see if it was waters or not (they don't think it is) and am waiting for the result to come back.
I am not dilated. My cervix is tucked right around to one side. Apparently it's started to soften.
A doctor will come at 1am to take it out and examine me again.
I am so, so sore, I don't think I can keep on having these examinations. Each time they've done one, it's been more painful than the last (and a midwife told me this would be the case).
They've said the doctor will give me my options when he examines me, but I don't know what they are.
What is the next step?
What can I refuse/request?
Thank you.

My first DD I was 15d over and they tried for 48hrs to get me going but nothing happened. Then finally saw a consultant who was supposed to break my waters but she didn't bother half looked at me said its not happening would you like a section? Yes please! The other 3ladies being induced at same time all went into labour within few hours of being there. By the time I had the third pessary the bloomin midwife knew it wasn't gonna work but the consultant wasn't available so she said let's just try another one....I wish I'd gone with my instincts and refused. For second DD I had elective section much better.
Good luck. Go with your instincts tell them you can't face another pessary ask what your options are and the bishops score.

Hobby2014 · 13/08/2014 22:31

Surely if after 30 hours and no dilation then it's not happening?
I had a sweep done at 40+5 and that didn't do anything and the only thing that's changed in that time is my cervix is slightly softer.

I asked when I first arrived (forward planning for drip) about the epidural and she said i wouldn't feel anything, would be strapped to a bed, catheter in etc but I'd heard that they can give you a more gentle dose, but she said I'd wouldn't be able to feel anything or move etc

And yeah this room is like the friends episode with Rachel in labour. Every time I look up someone is leaving and a new person is arriving. Then they leave and someone else comes.
Whilst I'm still here.

If after 30 hours you aren't in established labour then it's not working. Apart from being over dates how are you and baby?

I do hope that things progress and that you have your lovely baby soon.

ihaveadirtydog · 13/08/2014 22:42

Yy to gas and air for examinations.
You have my deepest sympathies-those pessaries hurt me so so much-apparently some people are more sensitive/allergic to them.

Fairylea · 13/08/2014 22:46

That midwife sounds very unsympathetic and unhelpful. I'd request not to see her again. A lot of my care during my induction could have been made a lot better by midwives treating me with more kindness.

fishfingerSarnies · 13/08/2014 22:49

If you need cheering up the woman that put my pessary in had big false nails! Shock

Hobby2014 · 14/08/2014 01:26

Husband left at 11.30, now on monitor waiting for doctor to come.
On my own to fight when doctor comes.
Midwife has said tampon thing has to come out and then they 'll examine me again and try to break my waters. I don't want to be here right now Sad

I was in your position. With hindsight, I would have declined everything, gone home, and gone in for daily monitoring.

You have the right to decline everything you want to. Your body, your baby. Your birth.

If your fluid levels are good, HB is strong, and placenta is functioning well, there is no need to get baby out now. A due date is a guess and depending on ovulation and implantation can be out by as much as 10 days.

It is entirely up to you to do what you are comfortable with. If they do anything you don't consent to, it's assault. I'm so sorry this is turning out like this.

Hobby2014 · 14/08/2014 01:41

Bishops score was 3 at 7.30pm.
I've got them to remove the tampon but they're not to do anything else until tomorrow, when husbands back.

Hobby, get them to monitor baby now. Then decline everything, and have a sleep.

Things will look better in the morning with husband back and after some proper rest.

I would then reassess your options. Birthing ball, going up and down stairs etc, all of this will help. Don't be disheartened by the state of your cervix as that can change overnight, an internal exam is only a snapshot of that moment and they really aren't that useful.

slithytove · 14/08/2014 01:45

Good for you!

See how you feel at 9/10am. Don't be rushed into decision making. You may wish to google a little bit. Sections, going post dates etc.

If baby is monitored and all is well, there is no immediate rush to take him/her out.

In addition, the best thing for labour is a dark, comfortable, relaxing environment, which you will not get there. I would consider going home.

And remember, you are not a patient, you are a pregnant woman and as such, they can't 'let' you do anything. You make the choices according to what you are happy with.

Think you can get some sleep?

slithytove · 14/08/2014 01:46

I'm 36 weeks and terribly uncomfortable, so will keep you company if you want!

DeadCert · 14/08/2014 01:52

Well done for refusing anything until DH is back, I would see how you feel in the morning.

Hobby2014 · 14/08/2014 02:05

They're not happy with baby's heart rate at the minute. Still on the monitor. She didn't like my pulse either. So I have no idea what the deal is.
They've given me a snack of biscuits orange juice and coke but it's not doing much.

Hobby2014 · 14/08/2014 02:18

Now everything's fine so I'm going to try to sleep!

Sleep well, keep posting in the morning if you want support, tell them not to wake you too early!

Thank you, nighty night

I still remember the awful internals. all this advice is valid, just wanted to say you can try epidural and drip, I had the pessary not changing my cervix but they stopped after 8 hrs as it was causing frequent contractions, but after I had the epidural, the pitocin drip and a rest, another 36 hours later dc1 arrived. Luckily I didn't need forceps/ventouse it's a hard call whether to stick it out or ask for a section or go home. Personally, if I get there with dc2 I'd try an epidural, rest and drip but then I've not had to recover from a section. I'd also get pain relief in place before they do your waters in your shoes. Hope you got some sleep!

TrashcanMan · 14/08/2014 03:20

Just marking place here, hope you're getting some sleep.

Leveret · 14/08/2014 04:11

Also you might ask them the chance of induction succeeding when so overdue. I was told (after the c section) that it was only about 20% but that might have been related to the baby's position too.

MinesAPintOfTea · 14/08/2014 04:59

I hope you've had some sleep. And if they think its time for baby to come out, ask for a c section. If I ever find the courage to get pregnant again I would decline induction, especially if nothing's happening after two days.

Babiesbabieseverywhere · 14/08/2014 05:23

Feel for you, i was induced overdue. I had the tampon for 24 hours then two lots of 6 hours on the gel. The second lot of gel made my back hurt constantly but after the 6 hours were up it wore off. Midwife said this was common. I was finally 2cm so they broke my waters, but then nothing happened so I went on the drip, had an epidural 6 hours later and baby by forceps 9 hours after that! I don't want to scare you, it wasn't that bad (and epidurals are brilliant things!) and I recovered very quickly. I feel now like my body just wasn't ready to go into labour, but something had to be done and baby was v big and def cooked! With the drip they kept turning it up to make the contractions stronger and more effective, which really works. I asked mw what would happen if the drip didn't work and she just said "it will"

Good luck and all the best for the morning

X

GalaxyInMyPants · 14/08/2014 06:32

I would ask for a section.
