Anyone know what's normal?

OP posts:

FidelineAndBombazine · 22/07/2014 21:53

My mum always tells me she put a pair of her old jeans on to leave the hospital in

I did that with my first. With my second it took nearly 6 months.

I don't believe in 'normal' OP - too many variables. It takes as long as it takes. Please don't put pressure on yourself.

Elletorrito · 22/07/2014 23:31

Not yet. Gained 4 stone. Kept hold of about half a stone with breastfeeding, stopped for about 2 weeks...was nearly there (after 13 months) and got pregnant again. Body has been in a constant state of change for 2 years from size 8 to size 16.

But then my body seems really reactive to hormones. Massive morning sickness and no eating for 20 weeks... Boobs went from b cup to e cup and then an h when breastfeeding.

It's like being a horizon experiment, try and not take it personally!

flipchart · 22/07/2014 23:41

It took me 5 weeks but that was going to the gym 4 times a week and swimming 3 times a week since DS1 was 5 days old.

When I say got back in my jeans I mean I could do the zip up and that was about it. I couldn't sit down! ( but I was back in them, Horay!)

ForTheBants · 22/07/2014 23:47

I was one of those annoying types who was straight back into my jeans.

But my skin was doughy and disgusting for several weeks.

lornemalvo · 22/07/2014 23:48

1st baby - a week.
2nd baby - 4 months
3rd baby - hasn't happened. Don't think it will. It could if I watched what I ate or had time to exercise but I don't.

LostInWales · 22/07/2014 23:52

Well he's nearly 15, 6 foot tall and I don't know where my old jeans would be now but I think I'm just about there?

Clearlymisunderstood · 23/07/2014 00:29

Dd1 - 1 week
DD2 - 8 weeks (today!) but they aren't very comfortable tbh could probably do with a bigger size but am poor this month so they'll have to do

Kim82 · 23/07/2014 00:34

With my first 2 I never really got back into those jeans...with baby number 3 I walked out of the hospital in my normal jeans after having her and with number 4 (born on Sunday and currently making super cute snuggly noises into my neck) I did the same and walked out of the hospital in my jeans. Admittedly this time they were size 16 jeans and I'd only put on 13lb the entire pregnancy as I was trying to eat well as I didn't want to put on loads of weight as I did with my first two children. Fingers crossed the weight continues to come off and I eventually get back into a size 10...I won't hold my breath though...

rideyourbike · 23/07/2014 00:40

A week after having twins, but to be honest I could barely eat enough to keep weight on, they were big babies and I couldn't eat much in one go for the last couple of months!

BeCool · 23/07/2014 01:02

I wore mine the day after dd1 was born. Took longer with dd2

LizLimone · 23/07/2014 01:17

About 4 weeks. I gained around 15lbs in pregnancy and most of it came off quickly due to breast feeding, sheer exhaustion etc. Wouldn't claim perfection either though as I still had a bit of extra muffin top for a few months after having DS despite generally being the same weight / size as before. It varies a lot for everyone so it's impossible to say how you'll be.

If it helps I know very few women in real life whose figures were 'ruined' by having children. A few extra pounds, a flabbier stomach, yes, but nothing drastic.

LizLimone · 23/07/2014 01:20

Ha ha - yes, living! Same here - due DC2 in November and am in US so have double binge fests of Thanksgiving and Christmas to get through... weight may not be dropping off like before!

doubleshotespresso · 23/07/2014 01:24

21 days.... But agree with others, dont judge yourself by others on here. Enjoy your baby and don't obsess over jeans.

Cavort · 23/07/2014 01:31

About 6 weeks for them to fit comfortably. I could squeeze them on and zip them up quite soon but was left with a big muffin top. I put on exactly 2 stone while pg and then EBF after the birth.

MrsAtticus · 23/07/2014 01:37

a few weeks, c-section and BF, but my pre-maternity jeans were slighly too big for me before I got pregnant so maybe I'm cheating!

expatinscotland · 23/07/2014 01:38

Never.

Frizz1986 · 23/07/2014 05:54

I am still in maternity jeans 7 months later. I think that it took 9 months to put the weight on so you should at least give yourself 9 months to get it off.
I put on over 3 stone and lost almost a stone post birth but due to my mw telling me that i should eat more (my baby was losing weight) i over compensated so didn't lose anymore.
I have been slowly losing over the past 2 months as i want to make sure i don't cut out too much that my milk supply suffers (still breastfeeding) and i still have over a stone to go.

Set yourself a realistic target (mine is dds 1st bday) as some people snap back and others don't. Your mood, the weather, your babys temperament will all have an effect.
I also bled for 10 weeks post birth which lowered my mood and drive to lose weight significantly.
My dd only has 30min naps so i can only exercise once dh gets home, but then theres tea to cook and dds bedtime to sort plus any housework i couldn't do in the day as she only naps 30mins at a time.
If you want to lose the weight you can but just take your time and do what works for you.

Mumof3xox · 23/07/2014 06:24

With dc1 & 2 I went into hospital in labour in size 8 low cut normal jeans, and I left in them too

With dc3 it took about a week until I could be arsed trying to put any on but then they did fit just snugly

ImBrian · 23/07/2014 08:19

Dc1 it only took a couple of months, dc2&3 I was in them by 6 months and dc4 I never managed it.

I put 21/2 to 3 stone on with all of them but with number 4 I kept a stone on afterwards. My skin always went back to normal though.

I'm pregnant with dc 5 and hoping I put less on as I'd like to be back to my pre dc4 weight as I still consider that my normal weight.

Dolly80 · 23/07/2014 08:24

I'm the same expatinscotland - never got back into them! 2 years on I'm exercising more than I ever did pre-childbirth but still not there yet (no longer have the jeans either!)

2 weeks for me. I cheated though - missed the last month of pregnancy!

Whereisegg · 24/07/2014 19:38

I never stopped wearing them with either dc, but I had quite low waisted jeans.
With dc1 I had a flat stomach within days, and dc2 is now 7 and I'm still tucking my tummy into my waistband when I sit down.

BentleyBelly · 24/07/2014 19:54

I put on 3 and a half stone when I was pregnant and lost it slowly over about 9 months after baby was born. I'm still breastfeeding and am back in my skinniest jeans that i haven't worn in years after 11 months. I love food and never watch what I eat really so its all the breastfeeding, I love it, might do it forever so I can eat lots!!
