I'm booked in for an induction this friday, first baby, and no idea really what to expect. In an ideal world, going in with an open mind is preferable. But in practice I'm probably going to be prone to losing it Blush

I'm currently 37 weeks, but measuring 41 weeks with Polyhydramnios, large baby with enlarged abdomen, plus being back to back Hmm

So, what should I expect? What was your experience?

Be honest, I can take it Confused

I've told him to go to bed. Which is where I want to be. Barely slept last few days. Oh and I can't lay this bed down, can't reach alarm thing either. Not even a pillow.

Midwife disappeared. Great

Good night xxx Get as much sleep as you can and make the most of it!

Windandsand · 25/06/2012 03:35

Not even a pillow? Sounds horrid - can you get up and walk too find one? Don't rely on a mw? You should not be bottom of the list to be looked after or you might become an emergency yourself!

Make sure dp and you understand what is happening. Make sure whoever tells you has experience if this and is not rushing to be elsewhere. Do not assume older people know best, they might be a late qualifier. Your body is not ready for labour natuarally - you normally labour after. 40 weeks. So your body is confused with the induction, it's not ready. Relax, get dp there and not just agreeing with busy mw- it's your experience and your birth, relax, and don't be blustered.

Morning McPhee! How was your night? Can see from earlier threads it wasn't too comfortable. Hope you managed to get some sleep

Sparklingbrook · 25/06/2012 06:07

Morning McPhee. Hope you are ok. x

McPhee · 25/06/2012 06:31

I'm ok. I actually slept quite well. Sod all has happened over night though, so I'm waiting for someone to come and enlighten me. I'm close to saying just cut me open. All I want is my baby :-(

Would kill for a costa coffee!

And an egg mcmuffin right??!!

Glad you had an ok night. They should come and see you on the ward round this am. You should be able to ask all your q's then.

If you tell them you're not sleeping they might move you to a private room. They won't want you do labour already exhausted. I had 4 nights of practically no sleep, just a few hours a day here and there. On the 5th day they moved me to a side room and I had 4 hours of unbroken sleep.

reastie · 25/06/2012 07:01

mcphee Sad . Hopefully today is the day

McPhee · 25/06/2012 07:57

TMI but I'm having some pains, and I don't know if it's starting again or I just need a poo :-S

I guess there's only one way to find out...

I think I had pains on and off when I had my pessaries, but the most of the pain was in the hours after they were in and then they gradually wore off maybe with a bit of pain again. FWIW when you see the doc today make sure you ask if they can't break your waters now but want to leave things to progress how long they will do so before they decide to csec - I went into hosp on a Monday morning, by wed night nothing so I was given the option for csec or see if things picked up (although they pushed the see if things pick up option), I chose to leave it and see but then by friday lunch they decided for csec as nothing had happened. I know I didn't go through proper labour exhaustion but I had 5 days in hospital with barely any sleep and being woken up all the time for monitoring etc - part of me wishes I would have just picked csec on the wednesday as at least I would have been less tired, but I felt like I was failing by picking that option - if you feel like this please don't think you are failing! This baby will come out, and no matter how it gets here it will be over for you.

McPhee · 25/06/2012 08:34

Ok am now leaking 'stuff' and had to have my bed changed. Am painless though. Midwife has called labour ward and surprise surprise they are too busy to see me :-(

I'm close to asking for a section, except the two other ladies in with me have had one. And seeing how they are is putting me off.

mcphee it all looks like things might be happening for you, eek!

ButtonBoo · 25/06/2012 09:06

Ideally it won't come to the cs bit don't fear it. After 6 days of failed induction and 26 hours on syntocin and failing to get past 4cm dilation they opted for the cs. I STILL had to wait 4 hours for a space in theatre but it was a good experience overall. But by that point I was just so relieved the wait was over and I was going to meet my DD.

My recovery was gd generally and once you're up and about each day gets easier and easier. It is major abdo surgery though so don't just opt for it as it feels like the quickest option. I picked up a nasty infection and after being at home for a week had to go back in (onto the ante-natal ward) for 3 nights for IV antibiotics. And it was my birthday :-( And they thought they might have to take me back to theatre to 'clean me out'!! At least DD got to come with me.

Hope the cons. will have some +ve news for you today.

lambethlil · 25/06/2012 09:49

Oh you poor thing! You'll have your baby soon, everything crossed for you. x

PandaSpaniel · 25/06/2012 10:43

Sounds like your waters have gone if you are leaking stuff. Hope you go into labour now, bet u are fed up of waiting. Fingers crossed for you x

Rollersara · 25/06/2012 11:31

I feel your pain! The only reason I went to the delivery suite when I did was that DP pointed out part of the reason I was induced was that I would get exhausted quickly, and having been on the ward for two days was making that a bit pointless! Once they get you in though hopefully it will all happen fairly quickly, good luck!

Sparklingbrook · 25/06/2012 11:53

Hi McPhee, thinking of you. Hope things are happening. xx

totty12mum · 25/06/2012 12:00

My husband was allowed to stay for all of the induction process.

Somersaults · 25/06/2012 12:22

Feeling like you need a poo is good! That's how I felt!

reastie · 25/06/2012 12:49

mcphee hope things are progressing well for you and you can't update as you're getting closer to having that baby finally Grin

lambethlil · 25/06/2012 17:02

ButtonBoo · 25/06/2012 17:17
