I'm booked in for an induction this friday, first baby, and no idea really what to expect. In an ideal world, going in with an open mind is preferable. But in practice I'm probably going to be prone to losing it Blush

I'm currently 37 weeks, but measuring 41 weeks with Polyhydramnios, large baby with enlarged abdomen, plus being back to back Hmm

So, what should I expect? What was your experience?

Be honest, I can take it Confused

Go McPhee. Grin

ButtonBoo · 25/06/2012 20:49

Oh I hope everything is going ok McPhee!! Lots of MN folk are sending good vibes your way...

McPhee · 25/06/2012 20:50

Sorry guys no baby :-(

Its been a very bad day with me losing it completely. Basically I'd been left, no one was telling me anything etc. I demanded to see head of midwifery, and made a complaint about my treatment and lack of communication/consistency.

I'm very low and stressed out now. Barely sleeping either.

Surprise surprise, within half hour of my complaint, they can suddenly do my gel. So now I've had two pessaries and a gel, with a bishops score of 2 grr. I'm sick of all this now. All I've done is cry. My body is crap.

oh mcphee Sad . It's good you complained though wish I had - they will now be more assertive in looking after you I'm sure. How long do they give you with the gel? Are you getting any twinges?

Somersaults · 25/06/2012 21:08

Why are you apologising to us?!

The second dose of gel worked wonders for me so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that things happen overnight.

slightlycrumpled · 25/06/2012 21:14

Ah McPhee, I feel for you. When you are waiting every hour seems like a day, particularly when you are full of expectation.

You did the right thing and spoke to the right people by the sounds of things.

Fingers crossed for you. X

ButtonBoo · 25/06/2012 21:27

Don't you apologise!! And your body is not crap. Your LO is obviously very happy where they are!!

Hope the gel does it's job. It's not as painful as the pessary. And they can only give you three of those max.

Hope you get some sleep tonight.

lambethlil · 25/06/2012 21:37

You poor love, you must be shattered. It will happen, just try and rest.

McPhee · 26/06/2012 03:12

Wide awake and sod all happening

But I've just sat with lovely night staff, who made me a coffee, then found lovely drugs for my hips.

surfmama · 26/06/2012 04:31

hi mcphee i just don't get it do you? i kept saying 'but its just a natural process' and couldn't understand my body and its odd behaviour at all!

hope it is soon and good for you.

reastie · 26/06/2012 06:46

mcphee I always found the night staff really lovely when I was in hospital too Grin . Boo to nothing happening - the leaking you had yesterday - have they said that was your waters leaking? If it is then they can't leave you for too long before they do something [hopeful]

Sparklingbrook · 26/06/2012 07:15

Morning McPhee. Don't know what to say so sending a big hug. It's Ds1's birthday on Thursday so try and beat him. Grin xxxx

McPhee · 26/06/2012 07:21

lovely midwife has just been in and said that after two pessaries and a gel with no action means they normally start talking about sections. So much fluid that baby can't move down enough.

So we just wait to see what today brings I guess.
I'm definitely not feeling as emotional this morning......so far.

Now where's this egg McMuffin I keep thinking about

Sparklingbrook · 26/06/2012 07:23

It's progress in itself that you have found a lovely midwife. Grin

CakeGloriousCake · 26/06/2012 07:37

Yay for the lovely midwife!

Ok, so if you might have a c-section there is lots of info here from mnetters who have been through one - me included!

Most important thing I can tell you if you do have one is you MUST take lactulose (stool softeners) because pain meds will make you constipated - OW! Sorry, know this is slightly pre-emptive but oh I wish someone had told me!

Good luck with everything this morning, you will hopefully be seeing your baby today Smile and I promise the second you do all this induction awfulness will just fade from your mind.

reastie · 26/06/2012 07:41

mcphee so glad things look like they might finally be drawing to a conclusion. FWIW your experience so far parallels mine an awful lot. I'm keeping the egg mcmuffin warm for you while you fast ready for csec Grin

McPhee · 26/06/2012 08:09

I'm eating a bowl of bran flakes. Yuck!!

Come on baby....(shakes pom poms...sits down again)

I'm trying to keep positive today, after yesterdays total humour failure.

OP posts:
reastie · 26/06/2012 08:15

At least they have given you breakfast

ButtonBoo · 26/06/2012 08:57

Second cake with the lactulose! And my EMCS was really smooth and chilled. Very surreal feeling but in and out in half an hour.

Glad you're feeling a little better. I swear, you'll look back on this whole experience and smile. You're going to have one he'll of a story to tell your LO about the day week they arrived!!

Get some mags, a hot cuppa (cos soon you'll be living on cold tea!) and try to relax.

ShhhhhGoBackToSleep · 26/06/2012 09:22

Yay for the lovely midwife!!!!

Hope everything is seeming a but brighter today. Either way, you will be snuggling your gorgeous baby soon :-)

lambethlil · 26/06/2012 11:40

How is it going McPhee? I'm hoping silence means progress Smile

McPhee · 26/06/2012 12:56

Just on labour ward waiting to speak with the dr, but it very much looks like we're heading for a section.

Will update soon as possible.....
