I went to hospital yesterday afternoon and was sent home as my cervix still had a way to go. Then the contractions stopped. Both dh and had wound ourselves up I think so we went to the pub across the road, had a lovely meal and a little wine. We returned feeling much more relaxed.
I went to bed at 10pm but I was woken at 1am by dh coming to bed. Then they started again.
By 2am I couldn't sleep, I phoned the hospital again and suggested I got in the bath with paracetamol. Basically I was contracting still fairly weakly (I realise that now) about 1/2 hourly. I managed to go back to bed and sleep until 5.30am.
This time the contractions were much more frequent about 5-6 minutes apart. I phoned the hospital, a midwife phoned me back.
I understand now that I have been naive thinking I should go into hopsital before. I have hours of pain at home to go through before I am in 'established' labour. Dh can't help but treat me like I'm a hyperchondriac but I still have ages to go.
It's just dawning on me what a lonely experience this labouring at home is.

Have you had a glass of wine? Best pain killer I know & it's not half as potent/risky to babe as the big drugs they might give you in hospital.

I don't want to panic you, but if I was in as much pain as you I'd be really close to the birth so I'd be hiking to hospital now.And I'd be walking around doing as much activity as possible, get it over with, and all that.

Only the pain of my ctx used to ease up with activity, weird, or what?

Hopefully you have got a midwife MrsD.

alexsmum · 11/02/2006 14:03

MrsDoolittle · 11/02/2006 14:10

It's a community MW unit. I spoke to an mca who called the oncall MW.

Good luck, MrsD.

MrsDoolittle · 11/02/2006 14:12

She called me back. Didn't say much really "What do you want to do?"
I'm fed up of that question. I hurt, I can't stand still, I can pace around there as much as here and make groaning noises.
I've said i'll meet her there is an hour

Please God, don't let me be just 3 cm dilated.
That's all dh needs to hear....

have you told them that you're going in MrsM?

I'm agree with mears. You're half an hour from the hospital... you should go in.

If your baby is born today it will share my DTs birthday

at least if you go in then you can have gas and air.
are you going in the car to hosp?
take some pillows and get on back seat- that way you can curl up /stretch out, crouch- to get comfy. best of luck-!!!

MarsOnLife · 11/02/2006 14:15

time to go MrsD.

All the best. Get DH to start the engine.

MrsDoolittle · 11/02/2006 14:15

if you are getting the bearing down feeling - then you really need to get going.
wouldn't the community midwife come out to check you? that's what they do here.

MarsOnLife · 11/02/2006 14:16

MrsD.... at the risk of sounding rude ..... GO!!!!!!!!!!!

Flamesparrow · 11/02/2006 14:16

Take heart in this... with DD I was examined at 12.30, and they couldn't even find the top of my cervix, let alone any dilation... I clearly just "couldn't cope with pain" (not that I had asked for any pain relief before then )... 2 hours later I was 4 cm, 4 1/2 hours after that we had a baby. Sooo much can change so fast - you might get there and be 8 cms

alexsmum · 11/02/2006 14:17

bugger the coffe! get going

MarsOnLife · 11/02/2006 14:17

pmsl @ DH having coffee first!!! Sod him, sod the midwives and what time you said you were meeting them... if you are wanting to go in, then GO. You sound at a loss of what to do with yourself - imagine this after another 30 mins, and then sitting in a car....
