Welcome to all these lovely scrummy babies Xmas Smile.

usingapseudonym · 16/12/2011 22:26

I managed 3 1/2 litres ( 6pints!!) as my uterus refused to contract.... but they did magic things and all is better now. I never wanted to go near a hospital but they were all so good I've come home with a positive birth experience despite it all!

Nickel- what a lovely story. I am so pleased you got your homebirth and managed on gas and air! Huge huge huge huge huge congratulations and its been lovely to share your story. I so want to come and see you in your bookshop now xx

DaydreamingOfAWhiteXmasDolly · 17/12/2011 14:56

Nickel she sounds divine..... Only 13 weeks til I get to do it again, you've made me very broody! Xmas Smile

youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe · 17/12/2011 19:20

Oh thank god Nickel you're back I was waiting to be discharged so I could get back and find out what happened will catch up on this thread Grin

So I finally had a rather tiny for me 7.9lb baby dd she did not want to come and despite being 14 days over refused to come when they broke my waters 4 hours later not a single contraction they gave me syntocin and it took another 2 hours to get going just when it wasn't looking good labour started with a vengence, damn those bloody drugs any way 5 hours later my lovely girl was born. So for the 3rd time no home birth or pool birth for me for me but can honestly say didn't matter a jot, had the most perfect birth with amazing male midwife from a specialist HB team, I was worried about labouring with 2 blokes ie dh and MW but it was actually really nice and not a single scratch which is a revelation after a previous episiotomy and 2nd degree tear.
Feel completely normal apart from a massive bloody pile Absolutely loving snuggling with my wrinkly soft kissable baby i hope everyone else is too who has been feeding for about 36 hours non stop but has finally conked out.

We need a ice pack emoticon to add to the biscuits and flowers. Is everyone done then, was I the last? Typical.

MrsHoolie · 17/12/2011 19:58

Congratulations youtalkintomeunderthemiseltoe, glad all went well (even if you didn't get your HB) and that you are home enjoying newborn snuggles Xmas Smile

underbeneathsies · 18/12/2011 01:56

Oh Congratulations ladies!
How wonderful pseudo Thanks and youtalkin' Thanks I'm so thrilled you and your babes are all safe and well.

Well done again Nickel Thanks, enjoy your little girly - beautiful name too.

Spatone is a great iron booster - I had 500ml blood-loss and found that I needed iron for a few months pp, (they wanted to give me a transfusion) it was much better then the GalferFA tablets or whatever they prescribed as it didn't constipate! Your body absorbs iron more readily when you are higher in folic acid, so be sure to keep up your FA supplements. Take it easy until your iron is up.

Well done again - what lovely snuggly Christmases you will all have Xmas Grin

nickelhadababyYesLord · 20/12/2011 19:51

youtalkin - can you add yourself to the Advent thread?
and usingapseu too, please.
I'm getting confused with the dates.

So glad yours went well (finally!!) youtalkin - yours was just as stubborn to come out as mine.
I kept getting "so it was 16 days overdue Hmm " from all the MWs, and I said "well, technically" and got a Hmm "why technically? Hmm" in return - I don't class midnight as 16 days overdue, especially when labour started at 5am the previous day.

nickelhadababyYesLord · 20/12/2011 19:52

underbeneathsies - i was using Spatone from 36( i think?) weeks, because of my low iron.
I agree that it's good - I think mine might have been a heck of a lot worse if i hadn't been taking it (not that they gave me another test before the birth, which is annoying, because it would be nice to see what it started at)

nickelhadababyYesLord · 20/12/2011 19:53

and I missed the nit about folic acid - now that is interesting.
I' ve still got loads of folic acid left, so I might resume it. :)

underbeneathsies · 24/12/2011 00:46

Do, and if you're bf eat lots of oily fish and take omega 3 oils also. It will go into the milk and give your babe a boost too.

Don't forget to have vitamin c with your iron as well - take something low in acidity, or for a supplement, take buffered vitamin C, SOLGAR do a good one, and when you're at it they do a good multi-mineral and multivitamin, called female multiple.

Your babe has been 'leaching' your bones, and body to make her own, so it's payback time for your mineral levels now, esp as your bf, as the 'leaching' continues. Mind yourself! Smile

For an abdominal diastasis recti, the Tupler method works very well - I had four finger split and it was very good for getting it back together - I did intensive physio with a dedicated (private) post natal expert physiotherapist, but Tupler is good at the start too, before stitches have healed up. Happy Christmas Nickel.

nickelhadababyYesLord · 25/12/2011 15:27

can't do the oily fish cos I'm veggie, but I have seen veggie foods that have omega 3 in, so I'll stock up on those.
taking lots of vitamin C - thankfully I'm not suffering with indegestion, so the acidic ones are okay.

ah, yes, the old leaching baby - well, I know she's thriving cos she's put on 140grammes this week! (she was weighed yesterday)
We're calling her "Chubber" Xmas Grin

Still, my gums and inside my eyelids are pink again, and getting redder by the day, so something's getting inside!

Thanks for the Tuppler link - looks confusing, but I'll have a proper readthrough it. :)

underbeneathsiesthemistletoe · 26/12/2011 04:10

I've read a few things about flax seeds that they aren't that great for getting the omega 3 into your body, as they're not easily absorbed.

Have you tried Chia seeds? Apparently they have loads of minerals and vits as well as very absorbable vegie omega 3. Might be worth looking into.

Tupler's great - she has a couple of vids there on her site and a book and DVD also. I got the book and it was fine: there are photos for the exercises.

Well done on Chubber's progress - that's fabulous. Put your feet up Xmas Smile
