Just need to share as I am driving myself nuts!! I am 37 weeks today and woke up at 2.30am which a very sharp pain to the side of my bump which I had to breathe through. It coincided with a BH contraction. I lay there thinking oh goodness I am not ready for this!! Then I started timing things as I couldn't get back to sleep because the tightenings and period type pains were coming every 5 mins and lasting 30 secs. Not painful as such, but uncomfortable.

After an hour I needed the loo and lets say I cleared my bowels out Blush. I was awake for a further 2 hours before finally dropping off. I woke up at 7 still with the tightenings, just the same as before, which are still going now. I haven't had a show but have, er, done more bowel clearing.

Any ideas? This is my third so I should know really, but both my previous labours started with my waters breaking and then nothing for 12 hours before labour started in earnest.

I need to go to Tesco - dare I venture out?? DH doesn't believe things might be starting and we have a decorator coming tomorrow. I am planning a homebirth and all DH can say is wait until after the room has been painted Confused!!

Sorry this is so long, I am feeling a bit edgy!

Highlandgirl · 28/02/2011 10:11

Oh no I don't wait a March baby.....God I really hope it's not born on my FIL b-day..he's a smug git at the best of times and this well really tip him over the edge!

I too woke up this morning (after a very good nights sleep) to find myself still fat with pup Hmm Sad not that i'm looking froward to the pain...but really it's now time to GET OUT OF MY BELLY!!!

Radio silence from Blunder I'm taking this as a good sign that things are moving forward...???

More babies today please....Smile

Paula30CWR · 28/02/2011 16:51

Oh ladies...on this side nothing is happening.

I'm 40+4 weeks, had two sweeps now and nothing. No contractions so I don't know what is going on in there.

To make things worse, the MW told me I put on 20 kilos..nice! Just what I wanted to hear. I always had a nice slim shape and now, I look like a walrus!

Not too long now...i'm looking forward to meeting the little man - so pains, come whenever you want, I have no idea what you may be like, but I don't care! Grin

Highlandgirl · 01/03/2011 09:14

So i guess I'm having a March baby then...!

Doctors appointment this afternoon about what the heck is going on, i think she's going to suggest another sweep (is the normal at 3cm already??) most likely my waters will be broken, nice.

Paula I hope your bitchslapped your MW Grin I'm with you on the pain...hit me, I want to meet my baby.

40 + 5....drag Sad

StrangewaysHereICome · 01/03/2011 09:16

40+2 now, feel like a hippo, horrendous piles, beginning to get a sore throat - aaaah!! STill lots of BH's and pooping for England but nothing baby shaped has come out yet Confused

And breathe ... hope all you other ladies are well and have some baby news soon.

Thinking of slow and BUnder

Little girl arrived at 1:19am yesterday! 7lb 1 oz which is loads bigger than DD1, and also lots of thick black hair.

Not quite the straight-forward home birth we wanted - transferred in during second stage for a ventouse, but she's absolutely perfect so hey ho!

Highlandgirl · 01/03/2011 09:39

BUnder your little trooper....!!!!!!!!!!!!Grin Ohhhhhhhhhhhh I'm so delighted for you and your wee girl. Let us know when you pick a name x

I'm sorry that you didn't get the home birth you hope for, but she's her now and that's all the matters (I'm guessing)

Strangeways may I suggest Fybogel for your piles...! It will really help and is safe (packet say so) for pregnancy. Hope your sore throat doesn't develop into anything horrid.

coraltoes · 01/03/2011 09:40

congratulations! what wonderful news. I hope you're recovering well from the change in plan.

Highlandgirl · 01/03/2011 09:40

Slow???? Hello.....Smile

Do you have a wee baby yet? Hoping all is well?

coraltoes · 01/03/2011 09:41

Strangeways. Get some loo roll, put an ice cube in it and pop on your piles in bed for a while. Shrinks them down and eases the pain.
Amazing how we learn all these tricks when desperate! Wink

StrangewaysHereICome · 01/03/2011 12:45

Many congratulations BUnder Grin. I hope you are having lots of lovely snuggles with your DD's. It's a shame you had to transfer - I hope it wasn't too traumatic for you and you are getting some rest now Smile.

Oooh thank you highland and coral for the advice Wink.

highland hope your appointment goes well, keep in touch to let us know how it's going xx

ChippingInMistressSteamMop · 01/03/2011 15:44

BUnder - well done you!! Grin She sounds absolutely adorable!! Sorry you didn't get your (full) home birth, but as you say - she's here safe & sound so 'hey ho'. Are you home yet?

Highlandgirl · 01/03/2011 16:14

Afternoon all...!

My appointment was really good thanks, I saw the same doctor as I did on Saturday when I fell..Blush she was lovely about it all.

Anyway long story short, had another sweep Sad face for pain only but Smile face as it might get things going..! I have also been booked in to be induced for the 8th so that will make my 40 + 12. Really hope this sweep gets things going fully now. DH is total convinced something is going to happen within the next 24 hrs!

Hope those with babies, are enjoying afternoon cuddles on the sofa with a good old movie.

HG Smile

Jupiter118 · 01/03/2011 17:40

highland - glad appointment went well and hope sweep does its magic this time. I am thinking ahead ? what does a sweep involve, does it hurt, how long does it take what happens? Sorry lots of questions.

Congratulations BUnder - hope the transfer wasn?t too much of a trauma and you are enjoying lovely cuddles now.

Strangeways sending you labour vibes!!!!

Coral - waves from March thread. How do you know the thing about piles? Sounds like sage advice though.

Here ? the cramps continue as does the pooping and pressure down below. Having had the false alarm and the trauma of steroids/hospital stay the other week I think I had got myself into the mindset of early arrival, but all of this is just practice. Hideous ? never had this with first pregnancy and not loving it. [must slap myself in the face and bounce on gym ball methinks]

Jx

Highlandgirl · 01/03/2011 19:10

Jupiter really as you sure....!!?!?! Okay you asked for it Grin If I'm honest a sweep (IMO) isn't very nice. Firstly you have to be engaged and your cervix needs to be open. I didn't work for me at 1-2 cm, so will let you know if a 3cm sweep works later....!!!

I really don't want to freak you out, everyone is different and I have a very low pain threshold. I'm not a brave person, personally, both times I found it utterly horrid. However saying that I went back and had a 2nd one..knowing how much the first one hurt Hmm I'm not sure how much 'sweeping' the doctor was able to do today? but she had to stop as I was in so much pain Blush However she told me that was enough.

I had some bleeding after the first one and lost my plug later that evening however today I haven't lost any blood (yet) If you have one, take a pad for afterward (just in case) and some food. It might of been just me but I was quite wobbly / dizzy after the first one, but I hadn't eaten so that was my mistake.
It's quite quick, but the longer they can sweep for the better. Any pain stops when it's finished however do expect to have some fanny aches (not surprising really) later for a wee bit. You will get cramping and aches in your lower tummy...but it's just things getting moving..you might have to have more than 1. But surely this is better than having to be induced, whist it's not nice, it does let your baby go into labour naturally ie with drugs!

Hope I haven't Shock you...! However I do feel it's best to be well informed, esp at the later stages.

Jupiter118 · 01/03/2011 19:44

HG thank you for your honesty. Will discuss with MW on Thur. Has anything happened as a result?? Fingers crossed for you.

Just read your other thread re: induction. I was induced with DS and it was ok. I was induced due to mild pre-eclampsia at 38 weeks - head wasn't engaged, cervix wasn't favourable and certainly wasn't having any of the symptoms I am now. But it worked really well for me. I had two pessaries - the first one didn't do much and having them put in was probably the worst part (vague recollection if it looking like a dishwasher tablet?).

Second one did work - after initial monitoring was encouraged to walk about lots which I did - this broke waters and contractions kicked in immediately. Pessary at 8pm ish, waters gone at 9.30 ish. Examined at midnight only 3 cm had pethidine to see me through the night. However less than 1 hour later urge to push and examined again and 10 cm - less than an hour of pushing and DS arrived. No stitches and he BF really well for first few days and my milk came in at day 3 or 4. However DS then was v lazy feeder latched on well couldn't be bothered to suck and ended up in NICU at day 5 having lost so much weight. I had mazes of milk so expressed for 6 weeks or so - he was lazy even with a bottle.

DS is now playing up so must finish post!

Highlandgirl · 02/03/2011 14:26

I'm having cramps and aches..but nothing solid yet (I don't think) this is my first baby..sure if these are just pains or early labour pains.

Have been trying to keep busy today, done all those little jobs which you kept meaning to do but don't..like shredding and washing the kitchen floor.

StrangewaysHereICome · 02/03/2011 16:42

Sounds promising HG how are you doing now?? If the cramps get more painful and regular it could be it Grin am excited for you xx
