Hi I am 39+6 today, and this morning had mild contractions (or BH??) for an hour or so , 10 minutes apart, then nothing. I have just spotted some blood in my knickers, only the size of a 50p piece, no mucous or anything, just a spot of blood (gross, sorry!) Is this normal? I am a vbac, so no idea what to expect!

Thanks in advance Smile

Oh dear sorry to hear about your fall, that must have been scary. Of course that'll increase your anxiety, but as you say the fact you've already had steroids is a good thing. Any more news on the midwife?

not heard from MW, but apparently she is out and about doing on-foot visits - amazing lady.

Delivery suite say stay put unless symptoms change, as road access is so awful around here.

twiddling fingers time!

how's everyone else doing this morning?

hello everyone, its misdee btw in my xmas name,

am now 38+4, utterly exhausted. been up all night restless and twinging. my road is still not clear of snow, but no more has fallen so am feeling better about giving birth now. i should be able to make it to the hospital in time, and babysitters should be able to get here.

Good luck everyone, and hope the babies hang on till the weather is better/

Hi FairyTale (misdee), welcome to the bored/annoyed/worried/tired club. I think I must have a slightly sado masochistic side because the last few days I've been watching clips from one born every minute even though I know it's going to make me bawl my eyes out! Just had a dose of it there, what is wrong with me??

Good morning all. Had about 2 hours of tightenings every 10 mins last night, but they stopped when I got into bed.

Had sweep this morning, mw even came round here even though its been snowing since about 8am. We now have about 9 inches! Anyhoo, she wasn't terribly optimistic about anything happening, but said to keep active, so have been bouncing. Maybe a bit of sledging later?!!

Have had to call off Xmas lunch at my mums because of the weather. Now starting to get worried if something does happen, whether we get to the hospital! Thank God for 4x4's!

Hi all

Now 39+5 here.
Love the 'bored/annoyed/worried/tired club' Grin. Think it sums us lot up perfectly!!

Went to DS' christmas play this morning which was nice. Was greeted with lots of 'haven't you had it yet?' comments!

I've been watching clips from 'one born....' too - missed the series on TV but looks like it was good.

If my mother calls me once more asking if I've had any 'niggles' yet, can I please strangle her???

Oh definitely CJ in fact I think there's an exception in the law that allows pregnant women to get away with anything, especially murdering annoying relatives. If it weren't for the fact that we're all so knackered and huge, we pregnant women would take over the world!!! Instead all we can do is eat and cry in between naps.

Nope nothing at all today. Got a huge burst of energy earlier and did loads of cleaning, so at least it wasn't another wasted day. DH worked from home so it was nice to have him around. I'm feeling a bit more positive today despite the fact that this baby has decided to stay where he is until it's time for university!

Me, me!! Started having pains around 5pm every 40 mins or so. Went to bed about 10.30 and started with contractions every 20 mins. By 11.30 every 7 mins and still around 7 mins apart now. Have rung labour ward and they said to stay at home if comfortable. I've got my tens machine on, but they are quite painful! At least some of the snow has melted so getting to the hospital should be ok. The twins have been picked up by Grandad, and I've never seen DH so flustered!!

My labour was only 4 hours at home no drugs (first time mum) and I believe it was like that becasue I just went with it and trusted my body. BREATH!!!! Good Luck

Good for you, Yogabuff. My body has repeatedly shown itself to be untrustworthy, and decided to attach the placenta above the birth canal. If I'd sat at home, going with it and trusting everything would be fine, my son and I would both be dead. It's not always as simple as BREATHE.

What happened to you is unfortunate and I'm glad you where in a place with people that could help you. But your situation is not the norm. Most women can birth their babies without intervention, our bodies are made to do it. I believe that fear and stress causes many of the problems women experience during modern day childbirth. You're right it's not always as easy as breathing but breathing can calm you down, reduce stress and tension and give you something to focus on. It doesn't take the pain away but it does help the body do the work it's made to do....

good luck goodlife xxx drive carefully in that snow..

Yogabuff- I find your post very patronising and naive. Women have many different types of labour depending on many different things and it usually has fuck all to do with breathing and relaxing.

You were lucky.

I had a difficult labour ending with an emcs and no matter how much breathing and relaxing I did it certainly didn't help the situation.

Stop being so smug.

Helloginger · 21/12/2010 12:47

Yogabuff, I disagree. Women are having bigger babies at a more advanced age. Purely on biology we would all be better off having babies at 16. I was 37. And I wasn't stressed or tense. I wasn't in pain. Yoga, breathing and visualisation wouldn't have made any difference at all to where the placenta was.

You were lucky to have such a positive birth experience, but don't patronise those who weren't able to replicate that, for all kinds if reasons, none of which have anything to do with "going with it" and "trusting."

I am going nuts. Contractions ended up being every 5 minutes or so last night between 8pm-11pm. Had some food but then was sick, watched some TV and at 11 finally decided to call hospital to see what they advised. They said that I could come in or stay at home if I was happier for the moment and to call back in an hour. I said I was booked to come into the midwife-led unit - only to find out that they can't open it as there aren't enough staff and they don't know when it will re-open. I cried loads when I got off the phone and got so stressed that I think it basically stopped everything - after an hour we just went to bed. Had a contraction ever hour or so that woke me but after 5am I slept till 8.30 and have only had a few today.

Seeing the midwife in an hour, I think she will offer me a sweep, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to accept!

I agree that Yogabuff is talking bollocks. You were lucky with your birth, that's all.
It's talking like you do that makes some women who have had emergency c sections feel like failures.

Well, just got back from midwife (39+6). She thinks baby is breech and need an emergency scan as due tomorrow.......so scan on thursday!

Now need to think about ECV -do I want it?
C-section and breech delivery Xmas Shock. Midwife thinks either breech or head is so far in pelvis that she can't feel anything. However, she thinks if head was so far down then she would be able to detect the heartbeat much lower down on my abdomen which she can't (in line with belly button).

Have put a separate thread on pregnancy asking for info about ECV and breech delivery.......BUGGAR!!

cj you should be scanned tomorrow at the earliest. why are they waiting until thurs?

no experience here, but i know someone who recently had a sucessful ecv, but then again many more don't have such a good time with it. and iirc they have a lower success rate at this late stage.

how do you feel about c-sec?

fwiw mw can get it wrong.

Report
CJMommy · 21/12/2010 17:47

Waiting until thurs as this is the earliest appoinment and is also combined with the ECV clinic.

The midwife was very good to be honest and said that she could be wrong but had to check. I'm just frustrated that I have to wait until thursday to find out.

With regard to C-section/breech, I can honestly say that I just want a healthy baby. I will be disappointed in one respect as i am (strangly) looking forward to giving birth and all that it entails. However, in the grand scheme of things, healthy is the only outcome I want. Just want to make sure I'm fully informed of all options first.

WriterofDreams · 21/12/2010 19:52

That's very annoying CJ. If it's any consolation one of the midwives I saw was pretty sure my lo was breech at 36 weeks but when I saw the other midwife a couple of weeks later she said he was definitely head down, and I had that confirmed at the hospital at a later visit for something else. The problem with my little darling is that he likes to lie in awkward positions that make it hard to feel which way round he is and the first midwife is far too gentle for her own good. The second one digs her hands right in and while it is not a nice feeling I'm glad she was able to tell me for sure that all was well.

Any news goodlife?
