My son was showing signs of anxiety and I was looking for help for him. I came across an ad on Facebook - Kids Anxiety Disorder Solutions. I watched an hour long webinar and then had a lengthy telephone appointment - this was the point that Peaky Parents was introduced.. The programme comes very close to guaranteeing that your child will be cured within around 8 weeks. it costs either £2500 or £5500 depending on the level of support your child needs. Some aspects of the engagement/sales process with Peaky Parents made me feel uncomfortable - I wanted to do some research on the company before signing up. I came across the link referred to at the start of the thread which has lots of views and information about YCFF, now Peaky Parents.

I would not have come across this information if at the time I had just been researching Peaky Parents. I do not know the reason for the name change.

Radio 4, File on 4, is broadcasting a programme on 21/9/21 at 8pm called Mental Health Profiteers - based on this organisation I believe.

If you are thinking of signing up with Peaky Parents I would suggest you look at the YCFF thread before making a decision.

Concerns expressed about Peaky Parents on the YCFF link include:-

high pressure selling to vulnerable people - specific aim to create a 'marketing machine' to sell this online programme

encouraging vulnerable parents to put themselves under financial pressure to raise funds for the programme

bold statements, approaching a guarantee, that the programme will work, with no evidence to back this up

blaming parents for the programme not succeeding for their child
lack of qualifications held within the organisation

young people giving personal video reviews

lack of professionalism - emotive language designed evoke guilt

criticism of other professional services

no regulation

@3xteens wow. Just wow. Speechless.

NettieRE · 10/12/2023 10:35

I really like Doctor Amen. He has clinics in the USA. Follow him on Instagram to understand the brain and find support for anxiety, ADHD, depression, OCD. Here in the UK you have Tim Spector for nutrition. And for middle aged women, Doctor Amy Shah. I find them all helpful. They all have books. I listened to Doctor Shah’s book “I’m so Effing Tired.”

I’ve been impulsive. The people at the company are human. I disagree with almost everything they do, but I could have communicated better. More careful. More calm and eloquent instead of rushed.

That being said, my life would have been easier, my mental health better, my overwhelm less if we never joined this program. I regret not using the money for something happy and productive.

NettieRE · 10/12/2023 10:43

And I find Dr. Becky Kennedy helpful too. Things I learned from her helped me last night when my child needed support. I knew how to start thanks to Doctor Kennedy. Even if you don’t have time for a book, she has short and helpful snippets that are easy to digest on Instagram.

Doctor Kennedy has given advice on how to handle melt downs and temper tantrums (we all have them and I have a lot of them this week) that had really helped me.

Also, Dr. Bruce Perry has a phrase I relied on when I was a nursery school director.

Regulate-Relate-Reason. You cannot reason with somebody who is not emotionally regulated. Has anybody ever said to you “calm down” and how did that work?
My 21 year old uses it for her job in customer service and her employers love her. You can’t reason with somebody who isn’t emotionally regulated.

And Brene Brown had a great video on the difference between Empathy and Sympathy. Google it.
When we were at our best as a family, we had weekly meetings on Sundays in a variety of topics. Honesty, Hard Work, How to Apologize, Reslience, Humble Leadership, and topics on art and such. We would organize this in January and pick a theme for the month. Doesn’t have to be complicated. Just 15 focused minutes. Maybe even just watching Becky Kennedy or Doc Amen on Instagram together if too busy to plan? Just some thoughts of how we help ourselves.

NettieRE · 10/12/2023 11:01

Another person that had been really helpful. Mel. She has a launch program that is perfectly organized, the tech and app easy to use, all is broken down into daily tasks and a daily video. She takes feedback and adjusts things.
I think we have all learned that nobody is coming to save us. We have to save ourselves and we can absolutely do it. I know we can.

Do I still feel incredibly angry and disappointed in myself for paying £5,000 of hard earned money for this, yes I do. Every single day I do. But my ADHD coach reminds me I did it with the sincere intention of helping my daughter. Would it have been better if I took her on a serveral nice spa weekends where we created phone free memories and relaxed, yes it would have been. It would have been healthier to just light the money on fire in my back yard. I would have regretted it. I would have felt stupid. But I wouldn’t have been attacked, blamed, manipulated or overwhelmed and stressed out about getting through videos. And I wouldn’t have felt angry and confused every time I interacted with a staff member (except one time). But I need to find a way to let it go. Walking in the woods. Putting my phone down and focusing on my child. Doing my job. Exercising. Meditating.

TeenMinusTests · 10/12/2023 13:21

@NettieRE But I need to find a way to let it go.

I think this is right. You may feel that Sam has got away with your money, but the wellbeing of you and your DC are more important.

And anyway you are not the one at fault. The one at fault is the person preying on vulnerable families and promising the world.

NettieRE · 10/12/2023 14:58

Yes. 🙌🏼 Just had a fabulous walk. And going to see Charlie and the Chocolate. Much better use of my time. Hope some of those resources help. They said in an email to me that my comments will have real consequences. What they fail to consider is that their actions and comments have had real consequences too. Financial health, mental health, and more. But, as Martin said, “We take responsibility but we don’t apologize.”

This is a frightening report. A sales script to remove doubts on how much money

"Karen wasn’t buying. It felt as if the woman on the phone was following a script – well, she was right.

And I’ve got one of their scripts here - the company accidentally emailed it to another parent. It’s 22 pages long and details, line by line, what to say to close a sale. My producer Mike’s here to play the part of the salesman. [MUSIC] So, it recommends something like:

MIKE: If your life goes on like this now, how do you envision his or her life will be, and yours? (This is your leverage for later, when they have objections.) DEITH: The next step is to:

MIKE: Create doubt - this needs to be strong - in their ability to find a solution. Make sure they have nowhere to go. Poke holes in anything they’ve tried.

DEITH: But if you meet resistance over the cost:

MIKE: If you’re going to make a decision purely on money, you’ll be stuck where you are forever.

DEITH: Sam and Martin Robins say they don’t use sales scripts anymore, but I had a call with one of their salespeople a couple of weeks ago which seemed to hit some of the same notes as the script we were sent. I said I was Sharon, that I had a 14- year-old, Lizzie, who had anxiety, and counselling - CBT - hadn’t really helped. EXTRACT FROM PHONE CALL SALESPERSON: Hello Sharon, it’s [beep] here from Anxiety Recovery. DEITH: Have a listen, and see whether anything he says sounds familiar. - 9 - READER: Establish the pain behind their problem. SALESPERSON: No, I get it, I get it. You know, you need to go to work to earn the money, but at the same time you can’t leave her unsafe at home, so you risk obviously your boss getting annoyed and maybe you losing the job. READER: Create doubt - this needs to be strong. SALESPERSON: With the CBT, well, you tell me, Sharon. If this carries on the way it is with the meds and the CBT, what’s going to happen? This is an investment where you, folk have to find it somehow - over time if need be - and the payback is yes, in cost financially, because it does cost you not getting it resolved in terms of losing your job maybe. READER: Poke holes in anything they’ve tried. DEITH: Yeah, I want the old Lizzie back, but it’s just scary, isn’t it? SALESPERSON: Yeah, it is, but what are your options if you go the other route? READER: Make sure they have nowhere to go.

SALESPERSON: If you need us to, Sam, because of the amount of success she’s had, she’s actually managed to get a credit company on board and she can apply for a credit or loan on behalf of clients if they need it.

DEITH: Sam and Martin Robins aren’t selling second hand cars here, they’re selling vulnerable parents a child anxiety programme. Sam’s calling herself an anxiety recovery practitioner based on one certificate. Most of her mentors don’t have any medical qualifications at all, and she’s asking parents to fork out up to £5,000. The Robins paid £9,000 to a marketing company which coached them in how to use Facebook to grow - 10 - DEITH cont: their business. Sam’s webinar and the phone calls followed its sales template. It paid off - as Sam wrote in this review for the marketing programme: READER: As I type this today, April 2021, a year later, we turned over a hundred grand last month. If you have the drive, then this is the vehicle. I still wonder if I will wake and it’s been a dream!

CBARLAY · 11/12/2023 21:02

Did you notice that the website says that it is brought to you by Davina Towley (Integrated Child Psychotherapist) She has the qualifications as Sam does not. Her qualifications were only former anxiety sufferer and author. This seems like a legal loophole they have exploited.

KarenTHO · 13/12/2023 16:55

Reading through this thread.

  1. They have no formal qualifications.
  2. They threaten people
  3. They have changed the company name several times.
  4. It is highly likely they post many fake reviews.
  5. The program is really expensive and it does not sound like they have any wizardry magic.
  6. Why would they do this to people? I imagine the quote from above is the answer.

If we need proof that Trustpilot reviews are not accurate, look at Evri rating. Our family does not have good experiences with Evri. My neighbors text me often looking for their EVRI packages as well. Evri is ghastly but has 4 stars. I noticed while searching for my package…once again.

No company that claims they care about children, families and anxiety, would ever employ a script to manipulate people to get into credit card debt. Debt =anxiety.

KarenTHO · 16/12/2023 22:14

Thoughts on this quote calling therapists old and crusty? They use manipulative tactics to cast doubt on others as a way to distract from the fact that they have no formal education or qualifications for mental health care. Our child is now in therapy and loves it.

@Daaxy thanks for posting this. Wow. Just wow. Not about helping families. It’s about making a lot of money.

platinumplus · 14/01/2024 18:31

Loads of new posts and adverts up on Facebook now focusing on children unable to attend school. Clearly jumping on the DfE #momentsmatter bandwagon.

3xteens · 14/01/2024 21:37

School attendance is a big issue post-Covid. They may find a good proportion of this is diagnosed and as yet undiagnosed children/teens. And these are people this company really does not understand and are unable to help (in my opinion).

What name are the company going by on FB please?

platinumplus · 14/01/2024 22:03

@3xteens

Their profile picture and website they are linking to is The Mumsnet.com but the actual Facebook page name is Child Anxiety/School Refusal.

Chowmeinnoodles · 15/01/2024 11:21

Trust Pilot has a lot of blame for the success. They allow psycho Sam to write fake reviews. The ….. Sam always adds and the !!!! Sam always adds to everything are in many positive reviews. And the reviews read like an advertisement. They are so clearly her. Trust Pilot is nothing I will ever trust again. The only reason I signed up was because of Trustpilot and cunning Sam and twat Martin know it.

Chowmeinnoodles · 15/01/2024 11:24

Is there appetite for engaging a solicitor for the group? MP? What are the advocacy options here? Anybody have a good MP? Anybody have success with an SAR? Is it necessary for them to be recording all sessions and having a data lead as others have mentioned? Could not honoring SAR requests get them into legal trouble?

NettieRE · 15/01/2024 13:01

I personally was not successful with my SAR request. They threated to legal action against me. They told me they do not record Sam. After telling many parents they record all videos and threatening me with a recording of the video between Sam and my daughter, they said they do not record Sam as she is not a mentor.

I think it was just a handy way to threaten me with legal action to scare me off i because if they gave me the video, it would reveal EXACTLY what my daughter told me Sam had said to her. They are denying me my SAR and accuse me of engaging in hate speech and bullying for simply asking. They are total gaslighters who engage in abhorrent behavior and then accuse others of it. They accuse the victims and threaten lawsuits. I agree that many of the reviews are fake. I have noticed the same patterns.
