ive seen adverts for this on fb. they claim to be able to cure anxiety in young people. im suspicious - and nowhere does it tell you the cost. however im fairly desperate since my 16 year old is very disabled by anxiety. thanks

@NoSquirrels I think it was probably my comment. What wasn't really aimed at anyone specifically but musing on why I can see the rhetoric would be so appealing and why, therefore, I'm even more appalled by the way this 'program' targets vulnerable and desperate parents.

SwanShaped · 16/05/2021 22:12

@DenDebSam

I have never met Sam. Grow up.
Also, what do you mean by this?
mynameiscalypso · 16/05/2021 22:14

@SwanShaped I think someone also took my comment about 'Sam's friends' a little too literally...

SwanShaped · 16/05/2021 22:16

@mynameiscalypso oh I see. Couldn’t work out what she was referring to!

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 16/05/2021 22:20

@Saplamoj1972

As I said we identified triggers then talked about it no more-talking about it repeatedly became a living nightmare for my daughter after 3 years of talking therapy and emdr. We then spent a lot of time understanding what anxiety is and the effects this has on us. We then moved on to addressing the changes in our behaviours and resetting. We’ve all worked hard, it’s an ongoing journey but I cannot stress how much our life has changed. We had parents that said exactly what everyone is saying, it’s a rip off, you’re being conned, it’s a sales pitch. I wish you could speak to them now! They’ve since even offered to help us pay. I am not telling anyone what to do. It’s worked for us and I can only share my experience. I really understand how everyone on here is feeling and I wish you luck in any route you take. Maybe someone can signpost to any other programs they’ve had success with? We also looked at Linden but they never returned my calls.
This is just the info on the website phrased differently.

What were the changes you had to make and implement as parents? What triggers were discovered? What actually happens in a session? What strategies and tips and advice are you given?

NoSquirrels · 16/05/2021 22:21

What do you mean by this, Saplamoj? When you say “we’ve had parents that say”? Are you speaking on behalf of the organisation, or personally here? (If personally why so many parents desperate to all about this and now sign up?)

Look, perhaps it’s all legit. But secrecy is the opposite of safeguarding when it comes to young people. Just publish the methodology already - people will still pay for the programme if they feel it’s value for money. And paying a shit load of cash does tend to make people keen to commit to a programme, so from that POV I understand. But I still think it sounds dodgy due to the above mentioned MLM tactics and cult-like business tactics.

mynameiscalypso · 16/05/2021 22:21

@SwanShaped I'm not 100% sure but I couldn't see anything else it could be - not that I think the world revolves around me!

Clymene · 16/05/2021 22:21

@DenDebSam

You’ve obviously never had a child in crisis. Shame on you for this comment.
It's weird how all these post start out all nice - this is my truth; you do you etc

And then get super aggressive real quick.

I can't speak for anyone else but I think most of us post on this thread are all to familiar with having a child in crisis.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 16/05/2021 22:29

It's really interesting that despite raving about it, none of the supporters can explain the process . Even if it was a bit vague to protect the whole "we gotta make money somehow" idea. They could still say what they changed in their parenting style, how they interact with their kids or whatever other changes they might have made.

There's this bonkers home remedy from my country for really bad sore throats. I have no idea how it works,probably because it doesn't and it's just the placebo effect. But I can explain exactly how to make it, the ingredients etc. Because there is a process, even if the results are debatable.

KarmaViolet · 16/05/2021 22:31

I want to hear the sore throat remedy!

DoubleTweenQueen · 16/05/2021 22:34

@SwanShaped I am open to finding support, it's just how to go about finding someone really reputable and effective.

Howzaboutye · 16/05/2021 22:35

I think someone should tweet this thread to the money saving expert people- I bet they would be interested in this exploitative scam.

I am vaguely hopeful that this sort of thing will be illegal soon under the new legislation the government have promised in relation to online harms.

I can't actually believe what I'm reading. You have mum's on here trying to help by telling you about something that could help your child get better and all you can spout is negativity. You can't explain the formula they use in parts like A, B, C . It comes from you building knowledge from sessions with Sam and your mentor and watching lots of different videos that Sam has created explaining lots of different things about anxiety. You have to watch and rewatch them . It's the build up of knowledge about how and why that helps you realise you need to also change your behaviour to help your child. I still have modules to watch and I have already had a light bulb moment.
It's so sad people are so untrustworthy this day and age. If these psychologists and therapists and CBT and CAHMS worked there would be no need for these sort of groups. Sam has dedicated her life to helping children recover from anxiety and who is better to help than someone who has been through it themselves and recovered. She can't do it for free, she has got to live and pay her staff. The time and effort they but in is unbelievable! Just ignore these negative people and if you are at your wits end, try it you wont be disappointed.

You can't help people they won't help themselves.

Yes someone left a negative review on trust pilot and 6 popped up on the same day (all 5 stars) to drown out the negative review. The reviews prior to the negative one also all popped up on the same day. 🙈

emmamccabe01 · 16/05/2021 23:33

Omg so sorry CAMHS such a pathetic thing to go on about in the great scheme of things.

Can you explain how you were going to start the programme next week in one post and then started it last week on a post the following day please?

I found that rather confusing and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Nats1984 · 16/05/2021 23:37

I commented on their thread on Facebook once giving an insightful and well presented account of how I helped my own child overcome anxiety . It didn’t really contradict anything they had advertised and was more a response to the hundreds of comments by very anxious and self blaming mums about their kids. It was deleted very quickly by them. I think that says a lot .

user77hjjy · 16/05/2021 23:44

I can totally understand what everyone is saying and there is nothing wrong with anxiety being a mental health issue. I have been going through this hell with my daughter for 3 years. I have been to CAHMS , she has had CBT and therapy sessions. It has not made her better.

So if cancer can't be treated it's no longer cancer?

Nats1984 · 16/05/2021 23:48

Emma ...
Child and adolescent mental health service.
CAMHS.
How could you not know that if you have trodden the path and waited for those letters?
Do not insult those of us who have , and who’ve traversed the pits of hell to sort our kids out .
Anyone who tries to make money off the back of something like childhood mental health issues is genuinely scum of the earth. If it was a genuine thing and worked , it would be available privately and publicly and recommended by our local doctors.

NoSquirrels · 17/05/2021 05:47

It's so sad people are so untrustworthy this day and age.

Agree wholeheartedly with this.
