@TeenMinusTests I didn’t take up the CBT because I didn’t think it would be more than I was doing with her myself - she’d been home-schooled for a term, and we’d been making progress with her self esteem and re-engaging with the world. I thought it would be more beneficial to deal with her issues in the real lived world, than with a theoretical talking therapy. I took her to a psychologist because I was concerned she may have a level of autism or ADHD. They didn’t ‘think' she did! I just wasn’t very impressed with them, particularly as they knew we’d be going on holiday for two weeks, yet during that that time sent me a number of quite aggressive emails for payment of our co-insurance, when we hadn’t received any proper feedback or invoice. Just felt grasping yet not terribly helpful. I felt we were being exploited.

@SwanShaped It is! But they are great kids - I just need to deliver them safely into adulthood. Super bright and sensitive souls. I know many many parents are going through similar issues, exacerbated by the pandemic. I ought to set up a local group, actually, now we can get back together again!!

TeenMinusTests · 16/05/2021 20:08

I'm hoping DD will be able to start CBT after GCSEs. I'm hoping / understanding it will help her address anxieties 'in the moment' as opposed to the other counselling which is working on the underlying issues. We shall see.

MelMath1711 Are you new too or have you nc or been a very longtime user but never posted before?

Of course helping our DCs recover is our responsibility.
What we are trying to find out is a bit more about this programme.
Can you tell us your experience with it and what kinds of things itt advised etc?

I think concerns about pyramid schemes comes from understanding you get the therapy at half price if you agree (upfront?) to become a mentor for it. So users of the service are being rewarded for joining up.

NoSquirrels · 16/05/2021 20:52

Well, all counselling requires change and work. But most are a bit more open about exactly what the basis of the programme is.

All these vague “it’s great, it really works, you need to sign up to understand it” posts just sound like a scam - a very cult-like scam. The sums of money are huge.

ValerieMalone · 16/05/2021 21:13

@GullibleTwo

Please don't be fooled. This scam is also posting as Mums using the programme to counteract the negative posts. Just be careful especially when people use pseudonyms! How can one claim change in 2 weeks especially for an online program? Please dont be gullible. This is what they want us on this post to hear a success story. What is that they have done in 2cweeks that makes such a difference? They want you to know this when you have paid your hard earned money. I remain sceptical and will never be convinced so should you all. I'm sorry.
Yes absolutely. Do you think some people genuinely don’t realize this or are they just trying to directly question the people who own praise it.

@Saplamoj1972

I am not going to engage in tit for tat. I have been a member of mumsnet since my daughter was born. I’ve never had reason to post before. I am only trying to help people in a similar situation! The program focuses on the future not the past. We acknowledged the trigger and have moved forward. I could not liken this to a ‘method’ and there is only the stories from others to validate it. A lot have mentioned private therapy, we did all that and medication and weren’t any further forward. It works for some and I would encourage every one to do what is right for them. Ideally this would be available in the nhs. Please remember the program is for anxiety only. Again I can only share my experience. I have offered to speak to others and share my experience.
Penis flask, right? Naice Turkey? Send the cheque?

Ooh, another brand new poster!

DenDebSam · 16/05/2021 21:36

WOW. I cannot believe some of these comments. Scam, abusive, ridiculous, pyramid scheme. Most of these words are from people who have not even joined the programme.

If you don’t want straight talking, sometimes uncomfortable conversations about what is needed for your child to recover, including taking a look in the mirror at times, then this programme is not for you. If you are willing to do whatever it takes, then don’t hesitate.

After 8 years of utter despair trying to find something/anything/anyone that would help my, now 18 year old son, with severe anxiety and crippling OCD, my lovely boss sent me the link to Your Child Freedom Formula from FB.

Of course I was very sceptical. Recovery guaranteed? Really 🤔. My husband, son and I decided to watch the webinar anyway. The doctors and the talking therapies had not helped. We had nothing to lose.

OMG, for the first time, we heard someone saying things that actually made sense and resonated with us. We signed up for the phone call as we felt it was our last hope, already knowing we would find any amount of money someway, somehow. And and we did.

My son is midway through the programme and in his own words recently said:
“ Mum, I feel so much happier and free and things don’t seem so hopeless anymore”. 💔
(I would have paid £1 million just to hear those words)

He still has blips at the moment but they are getting less and less. The programme is there for the whole family always and forever.

Sam Robins at Your Child Freedom Formula is literally my sons Guardian Angel.

This is my truth. You do you 🙂.

I wish you all well 🙏

mynameiscalypso · 16/05/2021 21:37

I wonder if people are so sucked in by it because it claims that anxiety/OCD/anorexia aren't mental health problems and therefore suggests they can be easily fixed and/or that it means that there isn't a cause (whether that's abuse, trauma, shitty parenting whatever) that they'd rather not confront?

mynameiscalypso · 16/05/2021 21:38

How many more of Sam's friends are going to jump on this thread now?

SwanShaped · 16/05/2021 21:40

@DoubleTweenQueen I think the pandemic has heightened a lot of issues for young people. It’s a shame that the psychologist was rubbish and doesn’t sound very thorough or interested. Could you look again at the CBT/therapy? My only opinion on your tricky situation, is that it might be helpful for your daughter to speak to someone outside of the family. And I don’t mean this in a horrible way. Just that a new person, with different ways of explaining things can help. Also, our children often listen to others better than they do us! But it’s crucial to get someone that your daughter clicks with. No point otherwise. Ignore what I’ve said if it’s not helpful.

That’s the money-making formula right there and it stinks.

SwanShaped · 16/05/2021 21:48

How many more of Sam's friends are going to jump on this thread now? Latest poster is also brand new. Funny that.

And still no one has given even a tiny hint of what’s on the programme. Just said that anxiety isn’t a mental illness, that the programme is life changing but that you only understand it if you sign up to the programme. I’d also be concerned about a programme that tried to recruit new mentors by offering a discount, before the new mentors have even been vetted at all. Doesn’t really seem very safe.

@NoSquirrels I also noticed that about the language being so similar. Very vague. Keep saying lifetime support/hard work

SwanShaped · 16/05/2021 21:53

It’d still be great if someone could explain what’s on the programme. Just try. Even if you think I wouldn’t understand coz I’ve not signed up. What is the bit that is so life changing and that is so different from any other type of therapy/approach?

NoSquirrels · 16/05/2021 21:56

Seconded. I’d like to know too.

Because if it’s life-changing enough to cost £5K and get this level of enthusiastic support - even encouraging new members to sign up to MN just in order to comment on this thread - then some specifics of the support would be really powerful, I’m sure.

Things cloaked in mystery that cost a fortune and involve vulnerable, desperate people are going to make folk suspicious.

Just lay it out - how does it work to change and commit as a parent?

As I said we identified triggers then talked about it no more-talking about it repeatedly became a living nightmare for my daughter after 3 years of talking therapy and emdr. We then spent a lot of time understanding what anxiety is and the effects this has on us. We then moved on to addressing the changes in our behaviours and resetting. We’ve all worked hard, it’s an ongoing journey but I cannot stress how much our life has changed. We had parents that said exactly what everyone is saying, it’s a rip off, you’re being conned, it’s a sales pitch. I wish you could speak to them now! They’ve since even offered to help us pay. I am not telling anyone what to do. It’s worked for us and I can only share my experience. I really understand how everyone on here is feeling and I wish you luck in any route you take. Maybe someone can signpost to any other programs they’ve had success with? We also looked at Linden but they never returned my calls.
