Blood test yesterday: Serum CA 125 level over 35 indicates possible cancer. Mine is 213. Shit.

DH knows and one friend but I don't want to worry anyone else until I know how bad it is; hence I've name changed for this post. I'd love to know how anyone else has coped / is coping.

CT scan Saturday and USS on Monday. GP has made 2ww gynae referral today.

Thank you for keeping us all updated on your progress @Ohjoyohbliss

I have everything crossed for a good outcome with your PET scan. FWIW, when my DH had lymphoma, he was told he had to wait at least 6 weeks until after his last session of chemo before the PET scan could be done.

I am honestly in awe of your determination and resilience through all of this - and I hope you are feeling a little better to enjoy Christmas. X

The consultant last week said it's normally 6 weeks for the final scan, but because the half way scan showed only a partial response and active disease ongoing, he wants it sooner. Two weeks was mentioned, but that would be Christmas.

I also have everything crossed that chemo has been a success for you @Ohjoyohbliss I totally empathise with the diarrhoea business ( it’s damm awful!) I’m nearly 2 weeks on from my chemo and my digestive system is far from happy!

NotPerfectlyAdverage · 18/12/2025 13:42

I'd be tempted to chase the scan now before Christmas. I'm not sure how much time office staff get off, but there must be an element of a Christmas wind down. I'm just cynical as we all know things get lost in the system at times.

I'm sorry to hear about the upset tummy. Feels very tempting to set up camp on the loo at times like that. The only worst thing is being sick when you're back and forth from bed to the loo. Big hugs, I hope this part passes quickly.

I have sick bowls in every room! There's always one close at hand. DH bought a big box of them when I was about to be discharged from hospital and was being sick a lot.

Feeling poorly today and my temperature is up to 38°C. I was expecting it so I just have to get through it.

That’s pants @Ohjoyohbliss you really are slogging at it. Do you need to give the te a call about your temperature? I’m only on tablet form chemo now but even so, have been told to phone an emergency number if I get a temperature.

Technically I'm supposed to phone the emergency number if it goes over 37.5 but if I call at the weekend, they will just tell me to go to A&E. The last thing I need is to sit in a crowded A&E waiting room for hours. Again, technically, they are supposed to alert A&E so I get prioritised, but last time I still had a 3 hour wait.

Yesterday I couldn't eat any lunch. Managed some soup for tea but sicked it up again a couple of hours later.

Enigma54 · 21/12/2025 12:02

@Ohjoyohbliss how’s your temperature now? Has it come down at all? I know what you mean about supposedly being prioritised, then having to wait. It’s the same here!

Oh no. It’s horrid isn’t it. Maybe nibble some toast or crackers?

NotPerfectlyAdverage · 21/12/2025 12:28

That sounds miserable Joy. I don't blame you waiting to avoid A&E either. I hope your temp comes down. I presume you can't take ibuprofen either because of your stomach issues? I guess the closer to Christmas it gets the more seriously ill those in A&E are. Like maternity wards are quiter over Christmas. People are still in labour but only rock up when they feel there is real urgent need.

Mind you with the flu thing coming earlier A&E might remain rammed. A&E makes feel unwell just being in the waiting room and I'm definitely not a germ phobic either.

Toast is all I'm eating but we're running out and the shopping isn't coming until Tuesday.

I don't normally moan this much at this point of the cycle but I'm not holding back this time.

It’s rubbish, chemo is rubbish, cancer is rubbish. Sending solidarity.

dancingwhilstfacingthemusic · 21/12/2025 13:42

Oh @Ohjoyohbliss this is so crap. I’m so sorry the treatment for this arseholery has kicked you so badly. I totally get what you mean about an and e. I hope your temperature has come down.

I’m glad we are still here to moan about it. Do it loud and proud, you’ve earned it.

You moan all you want @Ohjoyohbliss it’s all a pile of c**p!

Oh my God, moan away! That's what we are here for! It's not healthy if you don't. I'd just lean into it. I always feel better the next day when I admit to myself things are a bit shit and unfair. Better to realise and accept its all a bit shit than put a brave face on. I don't have cancer so I can't compare. But I do have a disabled child. I do let myself feel it's all crap and unfair. Then the good days are much more brighter because I have already processed the crap.

ForLoveNotMoney · 21/12/2025 18:55

oh Joy you have every right to vent. It’s not moaning in my eyes. Moaning is a pointless grumble about something trivial. This is completely shit so vent away.

I don’t have cancer but am currently very unwell with my own lifelong healthy condition, the treatment being similar to Chemo and I also feel life is very unfair.

I hope the coming days are kind to you and you can be on the up in time for Christmas x

Words · 22/12/2025 15:11

You're not moaning. You have every right to feel , and say you feel, rubbish. Sometimes one just runs out of the capacity to 'be brave.'

Feeling so unwell is stressful on both the body and the mind.

Words · 22/12/2025 15:14

I can't recall if you're veggie or not but I found that clear soup ( they call it bone broth now, but it's basically chicken or beef stock) stayed down. It's also nutritious. Sending warm thoughts along the M62.

Ohjoyohbliss · 22/12/2025 20:09

I've been cutting down on MST (morphine) pills from 15mg morning and night (30mg a day) to recently just 5mg in a morning. But after several painful nights in a row, last night I took 10mg. What a difference! Slept for six hours solid, then fitfully for the rest, but with almost no pain. I took another 10mg this morning.

My temperature went as high as 38.6 yesterday but today it's back below the magic number of 37.5, so I'm past the worst. Still haven't been out of bed, but DH says he can tell I feel better because I'm sitting up, whereas yesterday I was lying down most of the time.

I had another bout of explosive diarrhoea yesterday evening which was horrendous, but none so far today, touch wood 🪵

Managed to eat some cornflakes, half a yoghurt and a mini baklava but lunch (a mild curry which I would normally like) was making me feel nauseous after a couple of mouthfuls. Everything tastes horrible, even sweet things. I'm not drinking enough, either.

Solstice yesterday: the darkest day. I feel as though I've turned a corner and am now moving forward into the light. A little robin came and sat on the branch just outside the window this morning, which was lovely.

I'm glad that you're taking enough MST to really help you.
Your husband sounds so supportive.
