Blood test yesterday: Serum CA 125 level over 35 indicates possible cancer. Mine is 213. Shit.

DH knows and one friend but I don't want to worry anyone else until I know how bad it is; hence I've name changed for this post. I'd love to know how anyone else has coped / is coping.

CT scan Saturday and USS on Monday. GP has made 2ww gynae referral today.

Now they know what they ae dealing with, things can move on. Hang on in there .......

NewAgeNewMe · 24/08/2025 16:54

I’ve been thinking of you and hopefully now a treatment plan can be put in place. 💐

NotPerfectlyAdverage · 24/08/2025 17:48

That is good news indeed. Hopefully Leeds will be on fire and your chemo is chosen asap. You must be so relieved that fingers crossed nothing to delay the endo and therefore the results. I will cross everything that's the case for you.

Poodlelove · 24/08/2025 18:04

This is very positive news , I am sure treatment will start ASAP , I am thinking of you and wishing you lots of strength and love.

Ohjoyohbliss · 24/08/2025 18:36

Apparently I will need a heart scan to ascertain whether my heart is strong enough to cope with the chemo and to establish a baseline for future monitoring. I don't know when / where that will be.

That’s the normal for chemotherapy. Don’t worry too much about thst

BeaLola · 24/08/2025 20:52

That's great news. Sending huge positive vibes FlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowers

I’m relieved you’re getting answers and I hope the treatment starts soon and you feel better soon too x

Ohjoyohbliss · 25/08/2025 17:26

Left hand, right hand...

This morning I was told by the doctor doing the ward round that tomorrow's endoscopy has been cancelled, I should have blood thinners as usual today and don't need to fast.

Just now, a nurse told me that it HASN'T been cancelled so he was giving me a lower dose of the blood thinners and I have to fast in case it is still going ahead. It still MIGHT be cancelled but it might still happen.

Gymnopediegivesmethewillies · 25/08/2025 18:28

well that’s reassuring 🙄

Mischance · 25/08/2025 19:13

Bloody hell... so frustrating for you.

Ohjoyohbliss · 26/08/2025 08:05

Still nothing definite but they just came round with breakfast and said that I'm nil by mouth.

If nothing happens in the next couple of hours start questioning. I hate it when patients are kept in the dark. Best of luck, will be thinking of you x

NotPerfectlyAdverage · 26/08/2025 11:56

I hope you know what today's plan is by now. That's another frustrating part of the nhs. No one seems to do a proper hand over and plan. I'm sure they must do, but when I had a suspected stroke my plan changed with every shift change of Dr until I totally recovered and it seemed pointless so I was discharged. Madness.

Someone has the master plan. They must have?

Weepixie · 26/08/2025 13:49

Op, can you ask to speak to someone from PALS if it doesn’t go ahead.

Ohjoyohbliss · 27/08/2025 10:28

I had the endoscopic ultrasound yesterday. They said I would be conscious but I asked for as much sedation as possible and it knocked me right out, so I didn't feel a thing.

Afterwards, back on the ward, I felt really poorly. Just generally ill and the usual abdominal pain but also a new chest pain. They did an ECG, which was normal, so the pain must have been from the endoscopy and biopsies. It's reduced today.

My throat still hurts when I swallow, but I guess that's normal when you have a tube down it.

In the middle of the night they woke me up to put me on a saline drip. Then said they needed a urine sample. Also told me I'm having a scan today so nil by mouth again. The nurses couldn't tell me what the scan was, so I assumed it must be the heart scan which was mentioned previously.

In the event, it was an abdominal ultrasound. The sonographer said it will be reported immediately and the doc should explain the results to me this afternoon.

I'm glad you've had the tests finally - you are really in my thoughts, hope you are more comfortable soon

Words · 27/08/2025 11:16

So glad you had max sedation. Mine was attempted with minimal sedation and it was awful and they had to stop. Am now on list to have it under GA.

Hope you get some answers this afternoon. It's so disheartening when care is not as joined up as it should be.

Thinking of you.

NotPerfectlyAdverage · 27/08/2025 11:22

Glad it went ahead. Fingers crossed for swift results today. Are you taking everything offered for the pain? Sounds like you need some sleep right now. I hope you can sleep during the day

I am but it always seems that I have to fight to get the morphine. Usually have to ask several times and waiting an hour for it is not unusual. Recently I asked for the injection, not the liquid, because I was feeling queasy. They brought the liquid. I said I would rather have the injection, only to be told "I've opened this now, so you'll have to have this. "

One time I asked for it (it was the second time of asking, as they had forgotten about it,) and the nurse said "Well, you don't look as though you're in pain." What am I supposed to look like?

This afternoon I had an Infusion of some drug beginning with R but I can't remember the name. It's supposed to protect my kidneys. If the steroids succeed in breaking down the tumours, that can release a whole load of bad stuff that causes the kidneys to be overwhelmed. So this other drug was given first. Then the steroids. Then I'm back on the saline solution.

Rasburicase is the drug you've probably had!
