Breast Clinic next week

I have an appointment on Tuesday to have a lump looked at the breast Clinic (2 weeks referral). I just checked my NHS app and there's an entry in the waiting list section for breast surgery . Do you think this is a mistake or do you think the docs think I'm going to need surgery (it's a pretty big lump)? I was anxious before but after seeing that in the app my anxiety has sky rocketed.

Hey, not sure about the waiting list section in the app but all of my letters and appointment correspondence were labelled as 'general surgery' or 'breast surgery' as the service name! So I'm sure it's just something to do with that.

I don't think they'd presume you needed surgery off your referral, please don't worry ☺️. The breast clinics are brilliant and ours is like a one stop shop so they assess you fully, do all the tests and you know there and then if it's anything to worry about! Sending love and positive vibes x

In my experience, the clinic you are referred to is the Breast Surgeon’s clinic but this does not in any way indicate that this will be the outcome. There is no way that the person who referred you would be able to make that conclusion / decision either. At the clinic, you will probably get a mammogram, ultrasound and a biopsy if they cannot determine what the lump is. They will probably give you an indication there and then if they are concerned. I have been referred about 5 times over the years for various issues, always seen at the Consultant Surgeon’s clinic, only had surgery once and all of the outcomes were benign. Hope you have a similar outcome and hope this helps. I sympathise - the anxious waiting is the worst.

This will be my 4th trip to the breast clinic I've had biopsies before, came back as fibroadenomas.
This lump feels different, than the others I've had checked.
I've never seen the breast surgery waiting list thing come up on the app the other 3 times I've been to the clinic.

It is a bit strange but given you haven’t been seen yet, I don’t see how they could possibly know you need surgery. Maybe it is a new guideline that they have to follow about how quickly someone needs surgery in the event of being diagnosed with cancer, and therefore they get everyone on the list just in case?

Anyway good luck on Tuesday. There are lots of different types of benign lumps so hopefully that is why this one feels different. On my latest visit, I had three different benign lumps diagnosed following a load of biopsies. I can’t even remember what they all were!

When I've been referred for lumps it's always been to a breast surgeon consultant. They've the done mammogram and ultrasound and the breast consultant has reviewed results. It's been benign in my case. Fingers crossed it is for you too.

Had my appointment this afternoon. They did a biopsy, so now a waiting game!
The doc did say, due to the size of the lump that they will most probably have to remove it either way.

I really do feel for you. I have been there three times waiting for the results of a breast biopsy. It’s a horrible time and I wish i could say something to
make it easier for you. My own results were the first time fibrocystic breast tissue, the second one was they couldn’t tell what it was which resulted in a lumpectomy , then the wait for the results of that which turned out to be a benign Phyllodes tumour. Thanks all. I had my appointment this morning. It's not cancer. It's a phylloid tumour. They will remove it, so just waiting for an appointment for that.

This is exactly what I had!!! I am so glad it’s not cancer. Once they remove it that’s it! Make sure you ask the surgeon to get 1cm clearance around the tumour as this cuts down the risk of it growing back. Xxx
