Hope you'll be home soon OP. Sending hugs xx

Munchyseeds2 · 01/10/2024 19:03

Hoping and praying that you get some good news soon x

BESTAUNTB · 01/10/2024 19:07

Best wishes OP.

Easy for me to say but this is not necessarily as bad as you fear. I hope you get answers quickly.

You say you’ve been enjoying eps of Friends. Ally McBeal is available is on C4 at the moment if you fancy rewatching that. Some of it has not stood the test of time! But still very funny in places.

whiskeyarmadillo · 01/10/2024 19:08

Thinking of you. I hope you've managed to get some rest.

Thanks everybody. Anyone got a good light hearted funny pod cast recommendations?
Listening to oh my dog at the moment I usually like parenting hell. Nothing to deep just silly funny ones x

Noticed you'd also been watching friends - friends with friends in a podcast with two British blokes dissecting every friends episode - very funny and light hearted (a bit rude!!) - perfect for distraction. Xx

Bectoria2006 · 01/10/2024 19:37

I’m glad you are getting to go home. Sending love!

OP do you have critical illness cover on your life insurance? Worth looking at as my husband did when my daughter was diagnosed and we were given a lump sum which enabled me not to work while she was on treatment (she was a dependent as only 11 at the time).

rach2713 · 01/10/2024 20:30

@Wells37 when you have a minute have a look if you will be entitled to benefits. my husband was told he had one back in Feb and had it surgical removed and is having treatment just now. if you would like a chat please get I'm touch 💐

My grandma had one. She lived until 85 without operation, nothing
had violent dementia but that was another story

Notmanyleftnow · 01/10/2024 20:40

Hope you're home now, and with your family xx

FireandBrimstone · 01/10/2024 20:52

I have been following this thread and feel compelled to add my good wishes and hopes for you, to the others posted on here.
Glad you are home. It sounds like you have some nice friends who will do this for you but in the meantime I am virtually ringing your doorbell to hand over some homemade soup for the family and a nice candle for you to have a relaxing bath with 🤗.

Hydrangea58 · 01/10/2024 20:54

I am so sorry you have to cope with this, it must be very hard. Not all brain tumours are malignant, and I'm hoping this is the case with you. Sending hugs and love to you. xx

Hmmmmnotconvinced · 01/10/2024 21:07

Hi there, I am sorry you’ve had su had shock but I just wanted to share about a friend of mine who had a brain tumour removed 12 years ago and is living her best life in every way. Try not to panic I know it’s easier said.

Swimcoffee · 01/10/2024 21:16

Thinking of you x

Ukrainebaby23 · 01/10/2024 21:36

Sorry that's such shocking news, hope you are doing OK..
Not panicking is such a difficult thing, but try to fill your thoughts with happy things rather than business or worries.
Take time to smell the coffee, eat the cake, etc etc.

Ask for help, accept help, and seek help whenever you need to. Make friends with the patient in the waiting room, they might be in the next appointment slot and you may well meet them again. Sharing experience and expectations can be really useful, and when you need a can of pop and there's no family about, your friend from that waiting room might just be the one who will fetch it for you.

Thousands of MNers sending their best wishes..
Sleep wel, happy thoughts.

Waterbaby41 · 01/10/2024 21:41

Please whatever you do, try NOT to Google things. It will only scare you unnecessarily. My consultant when I had cancer advised me never to ask Dr Google - the only information to trust is your medical team (who were excellent!). Good luck.

Fraaahnces · 01/10/2024 23:42

I know it’s terrifying. (Different reason for me, but I also have something hanging over me.) So pleased you and your family have so much support. Love to you all.

OP if you’re self employed you can actually get ESA. It’s not much but every little helps. I think you can apply online so that will make it easier for you too, ring your GP for fit (sick) notes.

It's worth investigating, but it's not automatically a given, as you have to have paid a certain amount of National Insurance contributions over the last couple of financial years.

OP, I hope you get some good news soon, or at least some more encouraging news, but in the mean time rest up in your own bed and try to catch up on all the sleep you've missed.

Catunderling · 02/10/2024 08:05

Macmillan are really helpful with benefits, you don't have to research all that on your own. Certainly worth inquiring xx

LizzieLazzie · 02/10/2024 08:35

Hope you’ve managed to get some sleep. The people on the Macmillan helpline are very kind and helpful if you’d like to talk to someone who isn’t family or friends. Sending hugs.

TwinMama39 · 02/10/2024 10:01

Wonderful to hear that that your mum & dad are so supportive. Another vote for the MacMillan help line to answer questions. Thinking of you today and sending love & strength xx

ESA is ending and moving to UC.

Surprise50 · 02/10/2024 10:12

BabyR · 02/10/2024 10:04

ESA is ending and moving to UC.

I realise that, I don’t know if the rules are different for self employed, I have recently claimed it for 12 weeks following an injury which prevented me from continuing my self employed work. Once healed, I ended my esa claim. It’s the ‘sick pay’ I could claim through being self employed.
Eligibility
You can apply for New Style Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) if you’re under State Pension age and you have a disability or health condition that affects how much you can work.
You also need to have both:
worked as an employee or have been self-employed
paid enough National Insurance contributions, usually in the last 2 to 3 years - National Insurance credits also count

Check your State Pension age

Work out your State Pension age and Pension Credit qualifying age

https://www.gov.uk/state-pension-age

Mirabai · 02/10/2024 10:23

BabyR · 02/10/2024 10:04

ESA is ending and moving to UC.

You effectively get the UC version of ESA - OP would have to fill out a UC50 form which is the UC version of the ESA50 - it’s a capability for work questionnaire for people with limited capacity for work. There’s a section for cancer diagnosis/treatment.

First OP gets a sick notes from her GP for a couple of months and then they will send her the form.

Wells37 · 01/10/2024 15:51

They said they need to do a biopsy. I will get an appointment to see neurologist for that. They are going to slowly reduce the steroids I'm on but I'm They said I can go home and wait. I'm still panicking about it being in right front.
They are sorting my tablets out now and dh has just gone home to phone my parents and get the car. Ds is at a friends house till later.

Hope your ok since you've gone home and abit more comfortable, my thoughts are with you, sending you more hugs and best wishes 💐
