Come give me praise. I shut the roof box on the first attempt.

Just like that

You should see how beautifully my car is packed. Everything is layered and positioned for order of pitching and unpacking requirements.

Now admittedly I have not put the clothes bags in, or the cool box, or the bag of toys, or the dds and dh come to thing of it but

pah

it'll all go in no worries.

AND

I can see out of the boot window whilst sitting in the drivers seat.

I should get an award for that car pack.

Yippee you can come and pack ours later if you like? Where are you off to?

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2010 13:22

Off across to the Lleyn (again). v excited.

Spoke too soon on the roof box front. Pride cometh etc.

Just added 2 swimming costumes to the beach bag and couldn't shut the roofbox. This does not bode well for the clothes bags that HAVE to go in there too.

Where are you going Suzie?

Suziewee · 28/05/2010 13:31

Oh, never mind it was good while it lasted!! Must be big swimming cossies lol!

We are off to Dorset - well I say that but we haven't booked as the two sites we like are not taking bookings so we might end up anywhere. Still I like the sense of adventure!! Scarily tho I have just seen on another thread that Lucycat and "the hoards" to quote her are also heading south. I am wondering what the chances of finding a space will be ....

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2010 13:39

Goodness. Good luck with that. Does sound like a bit of an adventure. Do you have a campsite book or access to the internet to find sites on ukcs if needs be?

OP posts:
Suziewee · 28/05/2010 13:47

Ah bless, you sound worried for us!! Hmm maybe I should be worried. I am hoping that some strategic rain on Sat morning should work in our favour . We have three camping books - Time Out, AA guide and Cool Camping for Kids so I am hoping SURE we will find somewhere ....

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2010 13:56

I'm sure you will find a spot in one of the sites you are going to. Are you getting there early to make sure?

OP posts:
Suziewee · 28/05/2010 14:14

Depends on the roofbox shutting efficiency!! Will pack tonight and leave at first light - well earlyish - on Sat morning.

Goods luck with the rest of your packing, and your positive weather predictions!!

Have never played it Riven.

dh will marvel at the arrangement.

Maybe this is my calling. Professional camping packer.

Suziewee · 28/05/2010 15:48

Please come and do mine, pretty pleeeeease .... tell me, will it all go back in. Maybe you should take a photo for reference .

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2010 15:51

nope

sorry

no can do

Am going to patent most excellent packing technique and make my fortune.

You need consistancy and determination. Do not fear the roof box, they can smell your fear.

SixtyFootDoll · 28/05/2010 15:53

My whole car is about to explode we have far too much stuff in it!

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2010 16:04

lol

OP posts:
Suziewee · 28/05/2010 16:15

I can't even start yet, I have to wait for DH to get home with the car first, then attach the roofbox which involves a small amount of swearing and unnecessary shrieks of mind my car !

I do not fear the roofbox once its on the car. Its packing the boot I fear, DH prides himself on his talents but never leaves enough room for our poor arthritic and geriatric dog. I move things about when he's not looking so the dog can spread out and the poor thing nearly always ends up with the bucket on his head when we go round the first corner!! I love it .

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2010 16:41

lol poor thing

Now camping with the dog is just a whole new level of car packing that I have yet to attempt.

I actually plan on not attempting it and this being the issue that forces dh to buy a trailer.

OP posts:
Suziewee · 28/05/2010 17:51

Believe me I dream of a trailer.

zandy · 28/05/2010 17:58

Well done on the packing. Maybe you could lessons though from my dh.

Dh and ds have just set off for a camping trip to Cornwall. They hope to just 'find' a site once they get there. They have everything they need (they hope) packed into the boot of an MX5.

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2010 17:59

I dreamy dream of trailers too. My trailer would stay in my garage and all the camping things would be neatly stored within. The thick green tarpaulin would fit snugly over the top so the tiny bastard mice could not get at my stuff.

Then on the morning of set off dh would just wheel the trailer out and attach it to the car while I with a long floaty skirt on and hair untied and blowing gently just lobbed a couple of pears and a nice bottle of semillon into a wicker basket and put that in the boot with the dog.

Then I'd have to take the wicker basket out again as that would get eaten by the dog but still

It would all be so lovely

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2010 18:00

cor

that is a serious minimalist pack there zandy in an MX5

[respect to the dh]

Lucycat · 28/05/2010 18:11

Ours has shut too!

I always forget the cool bag and then end up with it by my feet!
Toys go in the things on the girl's seats and the 'games' are also in said roofbox!

have a fab time slubber!

Lucycat · 28/05/2010 18:13

Suziewee will you wave to us as we both drive down the M5 at stupid o'clock tomorrow morning?
Which bit of Dorset are you headed to? west or east?

deepdarkwood · 28/05/2010 18:18

We haven't sorted through stuff yet, let alone put roof box on & packed it. And as it's Friday I'm therefore going to be packing with wine. Dangerous

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2010 18:19

hooray! hooray! Another roofbox has shut

The sound of roofboxes locking on the friday eve of whit BH really is the sign that the camping season has started.

Hope you have a lovely camp too Lucy.

Slubberdegullion · 28/05/2010 18:22

deepdarkwood, remember tent goes in last with poles, pegs and mallet.

Lucycat told me that top tip all those many moons ago when I was just a camping topic newbie.
