Grumble grumble grumble

Maybe instead of working out how to create clouds to block out the sun the same scientists could work out how to make it only rain at night then we can have clear skies during the daytime! It doesn't have to be super warm -currents temps are fine for May Grin

Bore off

Seems rude. The other poster was entitled to make the observation about needing rain, that is all!

🤣 Well the grass my sheep need isn’t growing so it’s a bit of a concern.

Oh goodness I’m camping with 80 others! Sunshine only please

Ou fuck I’m camping too - scared to look now! 😬

OzGy · 15/05/2025 11:41

Booked to go to Pentewan in our tent for the week! Will be devastated if it rains, don’t have the funds to go and do lots of activities to keep out of the rain 😪

How was the comment doomsday bullshit?

Exactly. We can want brilliant weather over half term whilst also wanting some rain for the whole country. We’re on track for the driest spring on record: https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/articles/c5y64p3m7pyo

The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

Farmers are having a very very hard time at the moment.

What’s most annoying about this is the weather has been amazing the last two weeks. It really will be Sods law if we get a washout over half term. But my garden will be happy instead 🍃 it’s Britain. You can’t bloody win here. No wonder we’re all depressed!

cracked and brown ground after a long dry spell. Some green hedges in the background with a rising sun and blue skies

UK weather: Spring may become driest on record

There has been a lack of rainfall in many parts of the UK so far this spring and there is little or no rain in the immediate forecast.

Yep us. Have been watching the forecast as we leave next Friday and although hopefully not accurate, DP is already saying he won’t go. We’ve camped far too many times in the bloody rain.

That's would be amazing 😂

Looking gradually less settled as the days go on 🙁

We've cancelled so that we only lose our deposit. Camping in the rain is miserable! We've said that we will book somewhere last minute should the forecast miraculously pick back up.

Now what to do with the time off instead?

Was digging in my garden yesterday it’s dry and hard as concrete!!

The country needs rain. Crops and animals are important

Agreed. But it could rain all this week and stop at the weekend when I'm camping 😁

The three horseshoes near louth.

Home staycation planned instead 😊

One of the most annoying things about this country's weather is how it can be reliably glorious when the majority are stuck in work/school then piss it down during weekends, BHs or any time you plan a big BBQ or other outdoor event that would be so much nicer if the weather was good.

But I hope you make the most of your staycation and use any funds available to make it feel like a break - days out, treat food, sit in the garden if it's sunny etc.

If it makes you feel any better OP, we went camping just this weekend gone and it was fucking freezing at night even though it was beautiful weather in the daytime.

kirinm · 19/05/2025 08:56

The forecast for us is looking hideous.

LittleBitofBread · 19/05/2025 08:56

I don't have kids, so no skin in the game for half-term per se. But I am going house-sitting for friends and was looking forward to a nice sunny week in their lovely big garden. May have to adjust my expectations now!

anniegun · 19/05/2025 09:02

The weather gods are doing it deliberately. Beautiful sunshine until the holidays then a monsoon.

user2848502016 · 19/05/2025 09:04

We have booked camping for Saturday- Monday and currently looking like rain all day Saturday 🙄
Not too bad Sunday hopefully!

HairyToity · 19/05/2025 09:06

DH is a farmer, we could really really do with rain. I don't see it as boring to want rain. As a family we've had some lovely weekends in sunshine and evening bike rides after school. If we have to do museums and leisure centre for half term rather than beach it's fine with me.

Fizbosshoes · 19/05/2025 09:17

I spent much of the first weekend of March in A and E with DS and obviously my main concern was that he was OK, but it did seem really wasteful to be indoors in such glorious weather....but most weekends since then have been pretty good tbh.
Making a change from last year when it pissed with rain almost constantly for about 6 months!

EveryDayisFriday · 19/05/2025 09:27

We've booked that half term too. We've been away 5 times this year and had dry and sunny weather, we knew our good luck couldn't last. I'm just 🤞 that it's won't be a complete wash out for the whole 9 nights. We're going to the lake district so chances are very slim 😬.

babystarsandmoon · 19/05/2025 09:28

It seems to be a constant pattern of awful weather over half term and any bank holidays.

GorillaJoe · 19/05/2025 09:52

Its got plenty of time for the forecast to improve. I can't tell you how many times there have been shit forecasts a week before, or even days before UK holidays I have been on, and then the weather has been perfectly fine.

kirinm · 19/05/2025 09:57

We are going to north Devon which is always pretty unsettled. But we are camping in a field with basically nothing else there and the forecast is now rain everyday. We have a tent that cannot be put away wet / even damp (canvas) and I really want to cancel.

I agree but if they can get some on their money back now it makes sense to hedge their bets as it were.
