Anyone Camping at the weekend?

We have planned our first camping trip of the year for this weekend and I am starting to get worried about the weather. Snow is forecast and by the look of it sleet showers would be the best we can expect. Is anyone else planning a trip this weekend and will you still go if the weather is really bad on Friday?

This weekend? brrrrrrrrrr (I am up north though)

I want to go asap but I'm putting it off till at least next month (on the basis that last year, April was the summer)

ZippiBabes · 17/03/2008 15:45

not camping but i am doing a 22 mile walk on friday

SugaryBits · 17/03/2008 15:53

I really don't know what to do now, was hoping someone would come along and say Oh you'll be fine, weather won't be that bad! DC are 4 & 2 so am thinking probably best not to go as it will be too cold for them. Ahhh can't decide!

Zippi are you mad woman?!

We never go before Whitsun!

Sorry, easter is just too darned cold!

ZippiBabes · 17/03/2008 15:58

oh sounds rather near my walk so fingers crossed

ZippiBabes · 17/03/2008 15:58

i have camped in the lakes in the beginning of feb

the water froze

as did we

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/03/2008 15:58

Sugarybits, I hope you have got a very good sleeping bag

My dh has hard-core mountaineering friends who, when the rest of us go to stay in a youth hostel in the winter, camp in the grounds of the hostel. Rather them than me.

Also, I have camped at Easter in the past, but only when the weather was unseasonably good and Easter was late rather than early....

dustyeastar · 17/03/2008 16:00

We were hoping to go after just after Easter but I'm not going if the weather doesn't improve. Usually when we camp in the Easter hols the nights are cold but the days are generally ok. Whereabouts in the NF sugary? Its very wet out there at the moment.

Blandmum · 17/03/2008 16:01

also ground with us is sodden.

Cold + muddy = would rather stay home

sorry!

SugaryBits · 17/03/2008 16:02

Hollands Wood Dusty.

Am really thinking we shouldn't go now!! Have to give up computer to DS1 now but will be back later to see if there are any messages saying go for it!

at least walking you are moving

camping with kids in the cold would be a bit crap i think

as a couple would be ok probably

i am walking from petersfield to alton hopefully

but not sure if my putative broken ankle will do it

dustyeastar · 17/03/2008 16:05

The forecast is not good for this weekend I'm afraid. Cold and wet. I wouldn't bother if it was me and I don't mind camping early in the season. My sister lives about 3 miles from Hollands wood - I'll ask her to have a look if you like.

Blandmum · 17/03/2008 16:06

If you do go take lots of blankets as well as your sleeping bags. The more layers the warmer you will be.

Being cold at night really sucks!

Last time we went camping at Whitsun I eneded up sleeping with my sox on and a jumper over my jim jams!

V softy, me!

dustyeastar · 17/03/2008 16:06

Are you raising money zippi or is this walk just for the fun of it?

ZippiBabes · 17/03/2008 16:06

just for fun lol

ZippiBabes · 17/03/2008 16:07

it is called hangars something i think

dustyeastar · 17/03/2008 16:08

mad woman!!! I hope the weather isn't too horrible

SugaryBits · 17/03/2008 18:00

That would be great Dusty! Thank you.

We would be taking all our duvets and lots of blankets so not too worried about being cold in bed, it's the rest of the time I'm worried about keeping the kids warm and entertained!

Bumping for the hardcore camping evening crowd! Anyone else camping this weekend?

OP posts:
josta · 18/03/2008 10:47

Well we had planned to go to Mull for Easter, was really looking forward to it, then read the forecast! But we are cheating, we have a nice warm campervan.

Dh really wants to go still, but I'm wavering. We have 2 ds, aged 8 and 18 months, wwyd?

madm00se · 18/03/2008 12:56

In my parents garden-hopefully. We've been rather slow on taking DD camping-she's now 2.5, so I'm sure she's going to absolutely love it & we need to try her out with camping before we go away end of april-which I'm hoping the weather'll be good then, as hoping to get to Hawkshead!!HA HA!

Novicecamper · 18/03/2008 22:07

I wouldn't go unless dry weather was guaranteed and temps 'tropical' - hehe! I will be a fair weather camper.
