Cool, thanks BOD. We could do with a new cooker stand.

Has anyone used those self-inflating mattresses?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 05/06/2007 12:11

I used one over the weekend. It was a Vango one, borrowed, really good, much better than sleeping mats.

I've just checked though and the nearest Aldi is 7 miles away, I don't think I can spend half a Sunday just getting to it 7 back.

Wolfgirl · 05/06/2007 12:18

Surfermum, we got some, DH used them last year camping, and said they were fab; I only laid on it to try is (I went and bought a full blown camping bed from YEOMANS - it was massive and took up one side of bed and wasnt even comfortbale, so wont be taking it this year) -

I think the mats would be OK but only for a few nights. Its what Im putting up with this year, anyway. xx

oh and Bouquetsofdynomite thanks for the tip off. Now I just have to get that camping mat and sleeping and camp outside their door to get what I want. ho ho

Wolfgirl · 05/06/2007 12:18

whoops, meant to say camping bed took up one side of the tent.

Surfermum · 05/06/2007 12:32

Ok, thanks. I think I'll give them a miss then. We're going for a fortnight!!

Wolfgirl · 05/06/2007 12:46

where do you live surferman; we are in Bristol and you are welcome to borrow ours, try them out .

Surfermum · 05/06/2007 16:00

Oh thanks, that's sweet of you. We're in Dorset so not nearby, but thanks for the offer.

Wolfgirl · 06/06/2007 10:47

Bouquetsofdynomite - what do you think the chance so ALDI stocking enough for lots of people eh? quite often, items like this, lets face, get grabbed within hours.

SHSS - dont get one with stools, Ive heard nothing but bad reports tbh; my friend has one and she says they are really flimsy - there is not a lot of room and you dont feel safe or comfortable.

Now I do understand all these things are subjective, but still..... up to you at the end of the day; shame you cant borrow one to try it out. x

Got the dates wrong, it's this Sunday to next Wednesday - so everyone up bright and early Sunday morning .
I've been having the table debate in my head too, think I'm going with Argos blue thingy too - 2 adults and 2 small children ought not to collapse it for a couple of years. I like sitting up straight to eat so it's a bit of a gamble buying separate chairs and table without trying them out.

Surfer - if there is anything you want I'm sure I can persuade dh to put it aside for you. They aren't supposed to but I can be very persuasive

Wolfgirl · 07/06/2007 10:15

Morning Ladies, I spoke to the store manager of my local ALDI yesterday, to ask what the quantity load would be for the camping stuff for Sunday specials, and he said there was loads of the stuff, so no worries (Im after the gas stove thingy).

He was so sweet too. He said if he wasnt up to his eyes putting out the stuff for the Thursdays 'specials' he would have gone and grabbed me one, but winked and said come on Saturday and I'll grab you one then (this was for the Sunday specials).

so might be worth asking your local store manager, if there is something you have your eye on, if they could let you have something early. Mind you, not all SMs may be as nice as my one.

But worth a try xx

Nemo2007 · 07/06/2007 10:16

ohhh we need self inflating mats, and a table and a tent,,and and and..lol

WendyWeber · 07/06/2007 10:22

Lidl also have some camping kit, starting next Thursday - not nearly as much as stuff as Aldi but the camping loo could be useful...

Nemo2007 · 07/06/2007 10:30

cool self inflating pillows to go with the mats

FeelingOld · 07/06/2007 10:55

Sally, we bought one of those tables with stools attatched last year from argos for the kids to sit at whilst we sat at it with chairs (kids are 12, 10 and 6) and it broke on the 3rd day !! The kids were sat at it and the older one leaned on it too hard and it collapsed and broke, we just bought a low foldable picnic table and sit at it with out camping chairs, much easier.

Wolfgirl · 07/06/2007 10:59

Heres some offers from ARGOS:

Washing up Stand

Framed 4 tier shelving

Kitchen unit with shelves

Aluminium folding table

There are loads more offers at Argos too:

Argos home site

HTH xx

FeelingOld · 07/06/2007 11:11

We have just the bought the kitchen unit with shelves from argos (as link from wolfgirl), we haven't used it yet, got our next camping trip in 8 days . We have put it together and it looks fab, have been after one for ages and £20 seemed a good price.

twinsetandpearls · 07/06/2007 11:40

we bought the kitchen thing from Argos, the shelves only hold light thing but helped keep food tidy and organised and cookng was so much easier.

twinsetandpearls · 07/06/2007 11:41

am tempted by the aluminium table.

Wolfgirl · 07/06/2007 11:43

where are you off camping FeelingOld ?

Wolfgirl · 07/06/2007 11:45

Im going to be getting the folding table and framed 4 tier shelving, we could do with another tiered study stand for the food though; but may just have to leave it in the box. only going for a weekend, so not so bad.

WendyWeber · 07/06/2007 12:51

We have a giant coolbox that we use as a larder - it's this one I think. Insect-proof and doubles as a seat!

(It's also v useful when defrosting the freezer but way too big to use as an ordinary coolbox when camping, we have a much smaller thicker-sided one for that)
