Started camping this year, great to see kids playing together in communal area 😁

What times should kids be allowed out from and until? I thought 8am and back in at 9:30pm? Does this sound reasonable?

That sounds perfectly acceptable.
I went earlier in the year and the man in the tent next to me asked me to turn my (quiet) music off at 7pm because it was his childrens bedtime. Confused I am still cross about it. I don't think a camping holiday was the right kind of holiday for him.

That sounds fine naffed. One of my favourite things about camping is seeing all the kids run wild, making new friends and having adventures.

I'm with the man I the tent though donaji, the on thing I can't stand while camping are the people that inflict their music on everyone else.

Ugh totally agree. I live in fear of some twat pitching next to me and playing music. Awful and inconsiderate.

Being child free OP 8 am screechy play would piss me off. 9 better for loud stuff. Low level chatting over breakfast fine at that time

Children fine between those hours, so long as they're not screaming.

I'm also with your neighbour *Donajimena", music has no place on a campsite at any time as far as I'm concerned, unless it's people playing guitars round a campfire or similar.

My idea of camping etiquette is children quiet before 8 (7.30 at a push ), everyone quiet by 11. No Bubbles, and no music audible from anyone else's tent, EVER!

You might be the odd one out here, Donajimena !

I'm in a tent. 9pm and fucking machine gun fire from next doors TV! I'd suggest that isn't camping etiquette. Nor is allowing your baby to 'cry it out' every fucking night for hours. Reverberating around the valley...everyone is free to parent how they like within their own 4 walls but on a campsite...no. Just, no.

I am anti-music too. It's just not fair on everyone else. Even if you don't mind music per se, the chances are that the people in the tents near you aren't going to enjoy your choice of music and vice versa.

Re children, it depends on the age. I was in a campsite recently where our area developed a 9pm consensus - there were no little ones, just 7-12 year olds.

Dogs mustn't be allowed to run into other people's tents and around their cooking stuff, ever, no matter how cute and adorable your dog is.

I'm currently camping, kids have still been running around at 10pm, but wound down soon after that, and up around 7-7.30. Mind you it is 30 degrees here by 7am.

Music is okay, but quietly and off by 10pm.

Clean up the sink is a must! Don't leave your old food there Envy

igottastart bubble mixture is detergent. It destroys your tent's waterproofing.

It is bad for all tents, but especially cotton / canvas tents.

Telly, aargh, we had a camping holiday once where someone thought it was ok to watch Eastenders at full volume in the awning of their caravan every night.

Those times seem fine OP.

I also agree though that I wouldn't want to hear anyones music at any time, day or night.

I've just been camping with the DC and friends and their DC and (thankfully) didn't hear any music at all! Children playing (but not screaming) is fine 'til 10pm. After that you expect people to be settling down a bit.

There was a child/toddler crying during the night one night - that's something you just put up with because they can't be blamed (they might be ill/cold/having a nightmare etc and you presume parents are trying their best to settle them) but if s/he had been crying or screaming all afternoon and the parent was just letting them that would have been different.

How about an unsupervised 12-18 month old, who climbed into my car (left open while we pitched), and played with my phone charging cable by wrapping it around his neck several times? No parents in sight, I had to free him and lift him out my car (he wouldn't come out when asked) which I felt awkward doing when I'd never met him and no parents around. Thankfully they didn't stay long!

I let my kids out of tent about 8am and they go to bed when it gets dark. So at the end of July it was about 10pm.

Absolutely no music at any time. My worst nightmare would be next to someone with music or TV playing at any time of the day. It is the main reason I don't pitch near the EHU area.

Kids crying in night can't be helped. I did have neighbours once though that put the baby in their car and drove off to spend the night at home (nearby) as the baby wouldn't stop crying. How polite!?

Lots of people don't know, but it kind of falls into place once you think about it. Lots of campsite shops don't help be selling them.

When we have camped there seems to be an unwritten rule that children are back in their own tents by 10pm and everything quietens down.

In the morning, 7:30-8:00 is fine for getting up/breakfast noise. I wouldn't let DC run around playing until 9am.

The only time we were bothered by noise it was a very drunk lady with a Scottish accent loudly acting out Peter Kay sketches. Confused

Pah! When I say my radio was quiet it really was. You cannot expect to go camping and have the rest of the site fall into silence just because you deem it bedtime.
I don't much appreciate the all night crying and 6am sing song voice of parents waxing lyrical about a trip to the toilet block but I suck it up because I'm. .. camping. Not in Sandals!
Can you imagine me saying can you keep your kids quiet until 8am because I don't like to be woken before that time?
Without harping on about how quiet my radio is its my flipping Samsung phone with the earphones serving as an aerial. Not a boom box or whatever they are called

I don't expect silence, I expect birds chirping, people talking, children playing and running around from early in the morning till late in the evening but I really don't want to hear music or tv. Even if it's quiet it's really intrusive in a way that talking just isn't.

Any other useful do's and do nots' when camping with kids, or in general, please?
