Find me the perfect UK campsite and I shall love you forever.

I've left myself the standard no-time-at-all and very little money, to plan a summer holiday.

I don't think we can stretch to much more than camping, so that is what we shall do.

We love Pembrokeshire, Cornwall, the Lake District, and would like to find somewhere not too far from wales (bearing in mind that everywhere is far from wales).

We'd like somewhere near either the sea or a lake where we could swim. Somewhere with things for the dcs to do. Somewhere we could possibly have a fire. Somewhere with plenty of space. Somewhere Eco if at all possible.

Any recommendations (even if they're a long way away) would be very welcome.

i have heard great things about Nantcol Falls in Snowdonia: www.nantcolwaterfalls.co.uk/index.php but i have never been personally and apart from the fact I know they allow fires I have no idea if it would tick all your boxes. Looks nice though.

Henry's campsite in the Lizard, lovely people, very kiddie friendly, beautiful area, lots of beaches and sweet little village. You can have a fire in braziers.

Henry's looks amazing! Really nice and quirky.

Nantcol, is stunning, but very similar to where I live But it would be perfect for a short weekend away.

We stopped at a site right on the edge of lake coniston last summer and it was idylic

Brokerswood and Clippesby were nice

Waterside farm campsite. Lake Ullswater. Just down the road from me. Beautiful views and right on the lake. Has a small shop. Play area and glam ping pods and teepees to hire.

Thistledown near Stroud ticks all your boxes except the lake/beach one. Though they claim to be only 20 mins from South Cerney wetlands for swimming.

Eskdale caravan and camping club. Heaven on earth. Three fabulous pubs nearby, a stream runs through the site, great playarea with trampoline, walks from the site and not far from the sea at Silverdale. In fact you can get a little steam train from the site to Ravenglass.

Ah, sorry - just read your post properly and see you are in Wales not wanting to camp in Wales .

Depending when you are going, Eweleaze in Dorset (www.eweleaze.co.uk/) is amazing but it is only open in August.

How about River Dart country park? Lots for the kids to do.

In second Eweleaze. Amazing for kids. Campfires are a definite. Very eco. Right by the sea, Weymouth just down the road for proper seaside fun, farm animals (safely) roaming over the whole site. On site bakery, shop, pizza Van. It's heaven!

Eweleaze is looking like a front runner!

Just wanted to second Henry's down on the Lizard. Am lucky enough to live close by, and we go a few times a year. It is the best campsite I've ever been too.

Most of the pitches have views of the sea. Last time we were there we saw bats flying above our heads on the first night. Second night there was an epic thunderstorm, we watched it for over 2 hours over the sea, amazing. You are within walking distance of Lizard point, Kynance Cove, and loads of other beautiful places.

They have a big fire pit, a field of animals you can get in amongst and loads of rescued chickens walking about.

It is most definitely my fave.

This place. It's near Barmouth and Harlech so you have the sea, and a lake, and rope swings for the kids and camp fires.

Here is my fave UK campsite. Small, you can have fires, tucked away but not far from beaches and Aberystwyth.

Another vote for Henry's. We loved it there! There's an amazing fish and chip shop nearby and they sell Rattler in the local pub!

We found Eweleaze a bit wanky and expensive.

Can you get down to the beach at Henry's, folks? Is it just tents?

Another vote for thistledown farm. Very Eco with composting toilets and solar showers. Only 1 field allows cars so to camp in the others you transfer your stuff by wheelbarrow and tractor ride. We've been there twice when supposedly "full" and not had another tent within shouting distance.

Another Wales one: Llyn Gwynant. On a beautiful lake with a private beach, stream, kayaking, orienteering, climbing all on site, Eco as anything, wood-fired pizza van, the works.

Can I suggest a look at my blog. I have written full reviews with lots of pictures of many of the campsites mentioned above.
