I've left myself the standard no-time-at-all and very little money, to plan a summer holiday.

I don't think we can stretch to much more than camping, so that is what we shall do.

We love Pembrokeshire, Cornwall, the Lake District, and would like to find somewhere not too far from wales (bearing in mind that everywhere is far from wales).

We'd like somewhere near either the sea or a lake where we could swim. Somewhere with things for the dcs to do. Somewhere we could possibly have a fire. Somewhere with plenty of space. Somewhere Eco if at all possible.

Any recommendations (even if they're a long way away) would be very welcome.

Flowers thank you!

I know you said not Wales but Fforest Fields - fabulous place. So clean you could sleep in the loos.

Lake with canoes that you can borrow for s contribution to air ambulance.

Honesty box for payment of their own bacon, eggs, sausage etc.

Family bathrooms. Drying room for wet towels/wet suits.. Fire pits...visiting Thai curry..soon to be opened cafe with pizza oven...

Fabulous place but gets booked up in school holidays. Love the place!!

Good luck deciding OP Grin

And by the way, Eweleaze is not "wanky" - it is fab and little kids especially love it - walking the dogs, cuddling puppies and guinea pigs, sitting round the fire, climbing on hay bales both outside and in a barn if its raining. They especially like climbing down (and up) the path to the private (but stony so bring water shoes) beach - this is not for the lazy definitely but I am fat and out of condition and I can manage it with a couple of stops for "bag adjustment".

However, I would agree it can be expensive if you buy a lot there - pizzas, bakery, ice cream, food, drinks etc. But if you bring your own food and drink and maybe just have the odd ice cream treat, it's fine.

Oh, and if you do go, it is worth considering one of the car-free fields (we always go to Point Field which is the furthest from the entrance). They get less crowded and are nicer generally. You can drive your car in and out for loading and unloading, say, but just not keep it there all the time.

I found Greenfields last year and booked, but couldn't go in the end because my dog became ill just before (then died when we would of been there) - but they were lovely with me and offered to re-book anytime keeping the deposit. It looks brilliant. I booked through Pitchup and prices may vary manorparks.com/greenfields-holiday-park/

Sounds like Camping Caradon between Looe and Polperro in Cornwall would be perfect for you. I have camped there every year for the past ten years or so. Very clean and eco friendly, few minutes drive from the beach. Very quiet campsite, can't fault it really. I love it there.

Another vote for Henry's on the Lizard. Also Trevedra farm at Sennen nearLands End. magical and while the facilities have got better the same family relaxed ethos is the same as when I went 30yrs ago as a child. And you can't ever beat waking up to a sea view knowing it's just a walk to get to the beach -- surprisingly hard from Cornish campsites!

Wanky! ??????

Trelllyn in Pembrokeshire is two acres of meadow to each camping pitch, free firewood, family bathrooms, pizza night, Eco heaven ( water, recycling, comp loos etc) lobsters fresh to your tent.

almost always full but everyone should go at least once.

I'm never going to be able to choose at this rate! But at least one of them must have free spaces... Right?

You are all marvellous :)
