and the weather forecast doesn't look much better for the weekend.

buggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbuggerbugger

We're away for 4 nights to North Wales in our folding camper - I suspect it's not going to be much fun if the rain is this heavy.

What are your wet weather fall backs while camping. Obviously go out anyway and try and find indoor activities, but failing that? Dses are 5 and 2, so while the older one would be thrilled with a few board games inside the camper while the rain pounds down overhead, I can't see ds2 being thrilled...

at the red wine, looks like you'll have to try bacardi and coke then . Seriously though, try it - it might work for you.

Dh has just said that he doesn't want to go camping tomorrow because of the awful weather , I was really looking forward to going away.

I know!!

I've checked on metcheck.com and is says cloudy with rain most of the weekend. Lunch time on Saturday looks lovely for about 1 hour! I need to get away for a change of scenery, but do I need to be cooped up in a tent with a miserable hubby and four bored kids? Plus we've already paid and my brother and his girlfriend are going too (separate tents). Oh bugger this so called heatwave!!! Aggghhh

I don't know

How does it work if you cancel? I've paid a £15 deposit - obviously they keep that but will I have to pay the rest?

I really don't want to cancel, but at the same time I am questioning whether it might be better to go somewhere closer on Sunday when it's at least downgraded to showers....

Have you checked the weather for where you are off to? Metcheck are really reliable I think, fingers crossed eh?

Yes, I have checked - as I say, Saturday looks miserable, Sunday a bit improved... rest of the stay seems to be just odd showers which I can cope with.

Hi, well I've managed to convince dh that the weather won't be THAT bad, so we've started to pack the car, I must remember to pack the tiny radiator and electiric hook-up, wish me luck!

We didn't go after all! The heavy flash floods and thunder and lightning put us off. It was the right decision as it turned out to be non-stop raining in Bakewell at the weekend. We lost our money, but at least we were home and warm and dry.

Bah... coward!

We went! Torrential downpour on the way there, and dh had to put up the camper in the rain (took about 15 mins) then the rain stopped and we finished setting up camp in the dry. Kept awake with terrible wind and rain in the night (mental note: when you're 100yds from the sea, it gets a bit breezy).

Next day went around a National Trust place and had mixed weather (learned the trick of wearing a baseball cap underneath the raincoat hood to keep face dry - very handy) but enjoyed it anyway.

Other days were fine - the odd slight shower, but nothing major.

On the way home, torrential downpour again

GeorginaA, hey I might be a coward, but at least I was a warm, cosy one!

We came home early when we went camping at the Plassey not long ago too, we were kept awake all night by the gale force winds and were completely shattered, so when it poured down the next day we decided we'd had enough. I don't think it's much fun being stuck in a tent with four chilly children, watching d.v.d.'s with the wind and rain battering down outside.

So guess what?......

We've bought a 5 birth touring caravan!! Ha, ha!!

Can't wait to try it out, but we need to buy a toe bar and have it fitted first. Just think, we'll be nice and warm and actually sitting on a sofa, yippee!!

fullmoonfield, we already have one of these:

www.bongofury.co.uk/

And don't you dare laugh!!

It's brilliant actually, it sleeps two on the bottom (back seats laid flat) and two up top when the roof goes up).

We wanted a bit more luxury than what a tent could offer (you know, actually sit down on a comfy seat drinking your cuppa, without the canvas of your tent blowing against you)

Report
GeorginaA · 25/08/2006 19:34

you can sit down on a comfy seat in one of these too ... AND it sleeps 6 ... AND you can leave beds for 4 people up all the time rather than pack away to sit on that comfy seat with your cuppa

That looks very cosy, have you got one of those GeorginaA? It looks suprisingly large inside too, is it magic? lol

Report
GeorginaA · 25/08/2006 22:03

It is, it's like a tardis! Unfortunately mine is 15 years old and not quite so shiny, lol.

The beds fold out, so yes, you get a lot of space, but it's light to tow (and packs small). When opened out, it's as big inside as an 18ft caravan.
