Cadac or Cobb?!

I have no idea what those are but am so glad this isn't a baby name thread.

Cobbs have suspect non stick stuff on bit food goes onto. Apparently not good at high temps it gets too.

They are very good names for those

I have to say, the Cobb is a very cool piece of kit, and I love it for that, but I don't use it as much as I would have hoped. I think if I practiced some more then I would use it more, but have had a few false starts getting it going and you do really need to start thinking well in advance of using it. I don't bake at home so probably not going to start while camping. That said, it does do a deliciously moist roast and if I practiced a bit more, I bet I would quickly get the hang of it. You do need to learn to cook on it though I find.

Which Cadac is it that people get? The Safari Chef?

Safari Chef is ok for max 4 people but I prefer the Carri Chef. I cooked dinner for 9 people every night for a fortnight whilst camping last summer and would highly recommend it.

It's instant heat, is flexible for different types of cooking with the different plates, and has a decent size cooking area.

Also useable in places where BBQs are banned ie south of France.

We've just used our cadac for the first time . It was a doddle to use, and the sausages were lovely. I'll be more adventurous tomorrow . We went for the Safari, it seems plenty big enough for the 4 of us. Go Outdoors have 15% off them at the moment although be prepared to wait over a week for them to get any into the store.

The Cobb is more expensive, and I read somewhere on here that the non stick on the griddle releases nasty chemicals at the temperatures it reaches .

We have a Cadac too - the Safari Chef is all w are taking to cook on this year - I'm a whizz at interchangeable pans

if you want to roast a chicken or cook a full Sunday lunch then a Cobb is the way to go but I prefer cooking on gas - we use it a a bbq & as a normal hob.

I would say Cadac because I am the only person in the world who has a Cobb and hates it.

The cobb really is good and I like anything clever design like that, but it just needs more dedication than I am giving it.

Re going to europe, you aren't supposed to take gas canisters on the train, which is one of the reasons we went for the cobb. Do people just ignore this rule? Some places won't allow bbq but will allow cobbs as they don't actually heat the ground - no risk of burnt grass.

I cooked on a cadac for the first time this weekend at guide camp, I was very impressed. We used a huge paella pan out of our store because we didnt want tolet the girls loose with brillo pads on the various attachments that came with it.

We cooked spag bol for 15 and bacon the next morning, it was brilliant cooked gently but effectively. A good gadget

We use our cadac all the time - if you use the flat top you can do a full breakfast including fried eggs! Much more versatile than a Cobb - we camp most weekends and just leave it set up!

I did a whole chicken on mine on Sunday (we are at home as DS only broke up today) and it was so nice.

When camping we do spatchcock chicken and ribs and burgers etc. Haven't used it to do breakfast or anything yet.

The only thing is that it is a bit of a pain to wash up, but I would imagne teh cadac maybe is a bit too?

Yes the cadac is a bit of a pain to wash esp as ours is the big one so things don't fit in a sink easily. I love it though and cook most meals on it when away.
Has anyone used the liners on a cadac to help keep it cleaner?

Definitely Cobb. I had a cadac safari chef first. It was rubbish. It sounded like it would be great but there was none of the instant heating up you talk of. Plus I love the variety of stuff you can cook on the Cobb. And the fact that it involves playing with fire :o

We have a cobb. It has taken a few years to really get used to it but the more you do on it the more you realise ho versatile it is. It's really really great to be able to cook a pizza at camp, or fish fingers and chips for the kids or a ready meal on it. On the set up day, we get it going as we set the tent up and by the end there's a hot meal waiting for us with no attention needed. We tend to use the fake cobblestones from Home Bargains (Lokkii)) which work out at about 30p each. The other thing is that we use the frying pans/plates meant for the cobb on our gas stove as they are an excellent size.
