Cadac or Cobb?!

I think it depends what you like to do with it.

I love our Cadac because of the instant heat. We use it to BBQ (sausages, steak, chops, cheese and tomato sandwiches on grill) and fry breakfasts and make stir fry. For frying yes, liner is perfect as it makes washing up a doddle.

I haven't camped abroad, but apparently you can buy canisters easily and cheaply in most places.

If however you like proper cooking when you camp (whole chicken, bread etc), I can see how the Cobb might suit you better.

We don't bother taking anything for overnighters though - just take a normal pan or small grill to use over fire.

OP are you fun? Are you full of youthful vigour and a sense of adventure? Do you enjoy moist meat? Would you like the opportunity to not just cook your sausages stood next to your Pageant caravan behind your plastic stripey windbreak but maybe also down on the beach, or in a forest listening to an owl, or on a boat?

If you have answered yes to any of the above then a Cobb is what you want.

If you use cobblestones it is ready to cook after 5 mins. I have also used my cobb on the beach. Other people who have cobbs also come and talk to you when they see you have one. And lifting the lid with a flourish at the end makes you feel chef/royal like.

YY to cooking on the beach with a Cobb. And YY to it being a talking point.

And I bloody love cooking a full on roast dinner / pizza / crumble / beer bread as well as bbq, risotto, casseroles and stir fries while camping. Basically there us nothing you can't cook on a Cobb and it's pretty cool sitting down to your roast dinner while the people next door are heating up their sausages in a tin of beans on camping gaz :o

You'd really have to be intent on shoving it over, that or a drunken roaming fool, to push a Cobb over. Low, wide base of support see.

Yes. You'd have to stick your toe actually under the bottom edge and flip it to have any chance at all of knocking it over. Which would make you a twat.

Once when I was cooking some high meat % award winning sausages on my Cobb on Abersoch beach Bear Grylls came over, gave me a thousand pounds, and then lifted me up and casually jogged over to his canoe. He manfully paddled me over to his private island betwix a pod of dolphins and then we had the exotic and yet tender sexy-time for 20mins until the sausages were done to perfection.

You won't get that with a Cadac, no siree. You'd be lucky to have Keith Harris offer you an Aldi sadface own brand Pimms cooking your sausages on a Cadac.

In the above true story Bear gave me the thousand pounds just because he can and he liked my BBQ equipment, not because I am the whore of Abersoch beach. Just to be clear.

It's these latest posts that make me regret not buying a cobb.

DH likes the cadac but its seriously meh in my eyes. I was hoping for something as versatile as a remoska but ended up with a gas barbecue that doesn't even get that hot Sad

We had a gas BBQ from tesco that cost a fraction of the cadac and did the same job.

Have a look on other Cadac thread on Camping (today). People who less lazy than me seem to use it for loads of stuff.

I like that Cadac can cook for more people at once. Downside is that it obv takes more packing space and is less mobile.

In a perfect world and if I camped for longer at a time, I could see how the two might compliment each other.

I've got the safari chef. The carri chef is too big, too heavy and too bulky for me.

My friend has a carri chef and I agree that you can cater for large numbers but the safari chef copes with the four of us easily. It's just not that great. Hard to tell whether you're turning the gas up or down, not particularly hot when it gets going.

I'd definitely go cobb if I had my time again

Ah yes, we've got Carri Chef so my opinions based on that. It definitely warms up to frying heat pretty much immediately.
