How many tents do you have?

We have a lovely big Montana lake which we used this weekend.
Dh has suggested we need a weekend tent, one for using if we are only camping for one possible two nights. I'm happy with what we have but happy to consider it.
So do you have more than one tent?

Yes! A two man, four man and also a six manBlush
Obviously you can see the pattern before and after dc's
We still keep them though as dcs love camping in the garden in the 2 man. The 4 man is for overnight camping generally or festivals and the 6 man for longer/wilder camps.

4

One rotten one that belonged to my parents and is 50 years old. I can't bring myself to throw it away

One small 2 man tent that was mine and Dh's before DC's

One HUGE 8 man frame tent that we've had for several years

and one 2 man army surplus tent bought for a play tent for DS's Birthday 4 years ago that is actually a really good practical tent!

thisisyesterday · 04/07/2012 20:15

yes, we have a gelert horizon 8 for main camping and a quechua base seconds family 4.1 for weekends

thisisyesterday · 04/07/2012 20:15

oh and 2 x 2man tents that we hardly ever use

thisisyesterday · 04/07/2012 20:16

this is our weekend tent. got it as it was such a good offer!
we fit 2 adults and 3 children in it

FannyBazaar · 04/07/2012 20:48

I have 3, a 2 man very basic tent which I guess I hang on to for the time when DS wants his own space, a 6-8 man tent from when I used to have a car, great for going with friends in a car or longer trip, a very lightweight (lighter than the 2 man) 3 man tent with a tiny porch which is what we mostly use now. It's just me and DS, 7 years.

Ineedalife · 04/07/2012 20:50

I have 4 plus a pop up porchBlush

An Outdoor Revolution 6 man
A Quechua 4 man[old version of *thisis's"]
An Outwell 3 man
and
An outwell 2 man which is really cute but has only been used once because I cant sit up init.

I think owning more than one tent is a necessity, LOLGrin

Milliways · 04/07/2012 20:55

We have:

  1. A Huge Wynnster Satellite 12
  2. A Khyam Hex Poly Gazebo
  3. A Khyam Winnipeg 4
  4. Regatta Pop up 2 man
  5. Ancient 2 man, think it leaks, kept for "play" or spares.
  6. A 6 berth Motorhome Grin
YellowDinosaur · 04/07/2012 21:07

We have-

A vango Maritsa 700 for family camps

An Outwell fusion 400 pop up for me to take the boys away on my own in

A 2 man tent I bought many years ago as a student and am keeping for when boys are old enough to have their own tent. It took me backpacking round southern Spain so sentimentality too!

Our old shite family tent that it's perfectly serviceable. Will give it away to a good home!

So not too much of a tent hun then :o

lisad123 · 04/07/2012 21:07

Ok so help me choose a 2nd tent Grin
Needs to big enough for four people and a large dog.

An old old canvas 2 man (last used pre kids in about 1992)
An outwell monty 6 (rarely used)
A terra nova / wild country halo 43 ( which we use most of the time)
A outwell pop up ( which I got for grumpy teenage boy)

I also want this but Dh is being completely unreasonable and says no Angry. It is a blardy bargain

Migsy1 · 04/07/2012 21:56

I have 2 - A 4m bell tent and a 2 man cheapo Hypercamp tent that the kids sometimes sleep in next to the bell.

Migsy1 · 04/07/2012 21:58

troutpout Love the stripes :)

Milliways · 04/07/2012 22:08

Lisad - Our Winnipeg is brilliant for 4 - see reviews here

but it seems to have been replaced by the Montpellier which is on sale but I haven't looked up the reviews.

FourArms · 04/07/2012 22:21

Hmmm...

Royal Pescara 8 & sun canopy- will be our longer stay tent (not used it yet, got it a fortnight ago)
Outwell Montana 4 & canopy - shorter stay tent
Quechua 4 man pop up, 3 man pop up (used as sun shade!) & 2 man pop up (kids play tent for Lego in garden!) - never yet slept in!
Vango 5 man Juno teepee - also fortnight old. Might be a play tent on multi family holidays
Outwell Maine - just won on EBay - new multi family camping dining tent
ASDA gazebo with sides
Outdoor Revolution utility tent

Just sold:
Sunncamp Stratus 8 - not slept in since summer 2008, was only being used as a dining tent but was too fussy to put up
Sunncamp Shadow 800 & Verano DL Porch - fed up of sep porch so replaced with Royal Pescara

I have a Vango venture 600 - disocntinued ages ago, but a dome tent with a big porch bit stuck on the front, and two sleeping pods.
and
Quechia 2 seconds XXL llll (pop up, v roomy for what it is)
and
a tiny festival pop up.

Was using the Vango, but don't need all that space for DS and I, and I was getting fed up with puttiing it up and folding it on my own, so this year when the Quechuas were on sale at £89 I got one.

DS sleeps in the small tent next to whichever big tent we take for his sense of independence and adventure.

Lisa - what about the Quechua Base 4.2 or whatever it's called?

ooh, look, reduced or this one. Instant pitching and folding!

YellowDinosaur · 04/07/2012 22:44

I know Migsy!! He does not understand my need for the stripes!
You get it don't you. Grin

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 05/07/2012 08:20

We have 3 family tents and 2 one man pop up tents!

Vango Tigris 800. First tent, didn't like it much.
Kampa Filey 6. Fabulous tent for longer trips.
Quechua seconds 4.2am. Our new weekend tent. It's fabulous, I can highly recommend it.

Gelert pop up for ds1 to have his own sleeping area.
Quchua 1 man pop up. Much better than the gelert one.

SeaShellsWatchingMenInLycra · 05/07/2012 13:16

3man Vaude MarkII (pre dc)
6man Robens (with dc)
5m bell (early midlife crisis love affair with canvas)

Given I've only camped one night this year thanks to the pissing rain, that seems a tad excessive!!

4arms definately has the camping Hun badge at the moment!

randomfennel · 05/07/2012 13:25

For the 5 of us:

1 family tent for family camping holidays.
2 small lightweight backpacking tents (for backpacking!)
1 new "festival and weekend" tent. quick and light for one-night trips, places we have to carry the tent, etc.

Most years we'd use each of these several times. This year they're all just in the loft.

Migsy1 · 05/07/2012 14:45

troutpout and I like the rooflight and circular windows. I do get it, I do....Wink

Abzs · 05/07/2012 14:56
  1. Terra Nova Laser - mountain marathon tent
  2. Terra Nova Voyager - backpacking tent
  3. Terra Nova Quasar - mountain tent
  4. Wild Country Monsoon - basecamp tent
  5. 2man dome tent from Thailand World Scout Jamboree (for posterity, not use)
  6. VW T5 camper van
MummyPigsFatTummy · 05/07/2012 15:14
  1. 5m bell tent
  2. Quechua Base Seconds 4.1 family pop-up
  3. Quechua first generation 2 seconds XL pop-up tent.
  4. Eurohike 2 man dome tent (first tent so has happy memories)
  5. Eurohike 3 man dome with porchy-bit
  6. Gelert Quick Pitch DS4 (bought one camping weekend when heavily pregnant - couldn't get in and out of tent 4 - used once).

Also, a couple of gazebos. Looking at this list, I am not surprised our loft is so full...
