Gawd, the minimalists will kill us.....

It was Someone Else's idea, all right?

Carry on where you left off, be it owls, bins, sharks, tins of vodka, karaoke etc. [grain]

Afternoon all, I am having a quick break at home to cook some spag bol ( and have a poo ) (not at the same time tough) before we go to our beach side field again later. In a Slubber love moment last night I took a photo of my new Tevas and socks and have put it on my profile. My friends might have laughed but my feet were toasty warm and comfy.

I'm really going to have to get myself an axe, I feel left out without one, althought when DS1 walked past the Winnibago last night with one of these casually slung over his shoulder I did do a double take Shock

I've got an etiquette question, one of our gang in the field always brings her iPhone dock with her and plonks it in the middle of the table and I hate music when I'm camping, it really grates on my ears and I don't like her music much either! Should I politely mention this or accidentally sweep the speaker into the fire pit?

YellowDinosaur - Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Sal - London (SE)
scaryt - Sheffield
Muchostinky - Birmingham, more or less
Slubber - Forrin (hairy areas)
Bramble & Notwaving - near hairy areas
Lovecat - Greater London (Essex)
Funtimewincies - Wrexham
lostinwales - south west Wales of course!

notwavingjustironing · 30/08/2011 13:54

Erm, hope I'm not interrupting anything Losty Grin

Those socks are, indeed, a fashion triumph.

I bet that view is good though isn't it?

Re the music, I'd be tempted to say something. It doesn't have to be rude but you could say you like the sound of the sea or something.

Failing that, DS1's pickaxe falling on it should do the job.

When are you working again? Not that I'm jealous or anything, oh no!

Hmm, tricky one re music. I'd probably try asking whether she'd mind not doing it as you really need a break away from everyday life etc. These things always come out a bit wrong anyway though, so maybe the direct approach would work just as well / do just as much damage. I do think it's very inconsiderate playing music without checking with others, especially in your kind of back-to-nature set-up. Yeah, throw it in the fire.

YellowDinosaur · 30/08/2011 16:14

Delighted to hear about good bowel movements all round! Just like work[grain]

Pmsl at your dh thinking we are imaginary friends notwaving [grain]. just what did he think you were doing on the computer - talking to yourself? Grin

Lost I am very envious of your friends field and constant camping. I'm not convinced we'll manage another trip this year. Only realistic option if weather OK is 10th / 11th Sept. Dh is away then so might take the boys on my own again somewhere not too far away. I'm with notwaving too that if I were you I would say something about the music. I love music generally but I am totally with you that it gets on my nerves outside like this. Camping, on the beach, in the park etc - just inconsiderate really to inflict your taste on everyone else. I can tolerate it if its not too loud and not shit but loud and in your face - no thanks!!!

MisSal hope you haven't been sacked - need work to finance the camping kit!!!

Another very part time day at work. I am no reflection on the state of the NHS by the way!!! I would have been in theatre all day today but ds2 is off nursery today as he's not been too well. Dh had the am off but is off to Brum with work this pm so its fallen to me. Ds2 is clearly much better than he was yesterday pm and not got a temp anymore now so all good. Back to work tomorrow then!

YellowDinosaur · 30/08/2011 16:16

Cross posted with MisSal - on reflection can't one of your boys 'accidentally' break it losty?

brambleschooks · 30/08/2011 16:17

Team lost, those shoes and socks are an epic fashion combo.

You will probably have to put my location down as itinerant at the moment. Usually Cheshire, currently warwickshire, too frequently m6

However, I was diverted today via the Emma bridgewater factory shop, which was very nice, thank you.

Hospital visiting later.

Glad you have moved, slubber, Germans have quite an interesting approach to bunged up ness.

Music in fire. The only music should be that of the spheres or a folk song sea shanty on the guitar.

notwavingjustironing · 30/08/2011 16:20

Yellow, I'd be tempted to join you if I could guarantee the weather and you weren't imaginary

Yes Yes notwaving come with us!!! [grain]

Funtimewincies · 30/08/2011 16:25

V. true brambles. I have fond memories from canal boating a few years ago. We'd stopped for the call of the pump-out service and all thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment of the German family watching and commenting on their pump-out. They were even drawing each other's attention to interesting pieces floating through the tube Hmm.

We'd cracked open beers at this impromptu bit of theatre Grin.

Agree about saying something about the music, would drive me nuts.

YellowDinosaur · 30/08/2011 16:26

brambles hope hospital visit goes OK. Thinking of you and your Dad. Emma Bridgewater factory shop does sound like a reasonable consolation prize though!

YellowDinosaur · 30/08/2011 16:28

Losty I'm liking your devious style in bringing up the music dilemma to ensure future meetup camp remains music free!!! [grain]

notwavingjustironing · 30/08/2011 16:30

Brambles will have us all singing sea shanties round the campfire. You wait.

Nyaaaaaaar

gone!

notwavingjustironing · 30/08/2011 18:06

Is that the first line of an ancient mariners song or are you just warming up your voice?

or did the iPod docking station accidentally fall in the fire Grin

Funtimewincies · 30/08/2011 19:59

All around my ARSE, I shall wear a furry mammalllllllll...

My 20 month old old is a bit of a folkie already and he also enjoys bouncing in his highchair to a spot of Yes or mad Jethro Tull flute playing on the radio.

[proud mummy emoticon]

Funtimewincies · 30/08/2011 20:03

...and any of those 10th anniversary suggestions would be well received...

notwavingjustironing · 30/08/2011 20:20

Funtime you made that song your own, but sadly it's a "no" from me Grin

OP posts:
brambleschooks · 30/08/2011 20:55

Joins in by sticking another finger in the other ear. Nyaaaaaaaa!

I thank you. If you liked us we were the swingle singers, if you didn't we we're that funny lad with tape across his mouth.

Dad doing well. Ds1 in awe of a hospital which has a choice of 40 films on the tv channel.

notwavingjustironing · 30/08/2011 21:05

Excellent news Bramble that M6 drive is grim isn't it?

By the way, you nailed it Grin

OP posts:
YellowDinosaur · 30/08/2011 21:07

pmsl at notwavings 'funtime you made that song your own but its a no from me' GrinGrinGrin[grain]

You will have to feed me a LOT of wine / gin to get me singing round a campfire!!! Actually, you will have to DRINK a lot of wine to WANT me to sing around the campfire Grin

notwavingjustironing · 30/08/2011 21:14

You know me - any excuse for a song ....

Actually whilst camping last week I heard a dreadful caterwauling outside the tent. Ds2 who is five was holding onto the swingball and singing "Someone Like You" by Adele.

It was an appalling noise extremely proud moment Grin

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this thread. I spend far too much time here probably (although when dh bitched about him being a mumsnet widow on facebook I did point out that if he improved his conversation it wouldn't be an issue Grin) but I have lost count of the number of times you lot have had me laughing out loud / spitting wine into the laptop! Even ds1 has started asking me what I am laughing at [grain]Grin. Really looking forward to the meetup

YellowDinosaur · 30/08/2011 21:18

At least he has good taste notwaving!!

My 2 are well into take that at the mo (ds2 asks 'can we have the song called take that?' almost everytime we get into the car. They have a very unusual take on the lyrics though - their versions include 'my armour has toe kneeling' and 'silence ways the custard ways' Grin Move over Gary Barlow - I give you the boys YD!!

notwavingjustironing · 30/08/2011 21:22

Yes me too. I wish you all lived round the corner and you were my mates in RL instead of pixies in my computer Grin

Yellow, you gave me goosebumps Wink

brambleschooks · 30/08/2011 21:28

Giggling here. Or it could be the baileys, which mum is ladling down my throat.

To me wim wom waddle, to me jack straw saddle, to me Johnny fair faddle, come a long way home.

These traveling sorts really pre-empted the m6, didn't they, and without the succor of Emma bridge waters factory shop with warm aga and cake.
