Gawd, the minimalists will kill us.....

It was Someone Else's idea, all right?

Carry on where you left off, be it owls, bins, sharks, tins of vodka, karaoke etc. [grain]

DH very good about chickflicks - he gets emotional so easily since DS was born. Will never forget coming downstairs in the first week of after the boy was born to see tears streaming down DH's face as he watched children's hospital. He can't do crime though or gore of any kind. Amazing he didn't pas out in the cesarean!

Brambles technically I'm in primary management - I like to pretend I'm not. Teaching reception is enough for me! Such a lightweight. I do know I'm incredibly lucky in my work in SO many ways. Just a bit frazzled at the moment.

MisSalLaneous · 26/08/2011 20:08

Bramble, hope you get good results and fast. Your dad sounds great!

Nooooo re discussion of the day. Which one? I'm a bit lost navigating site on phone.

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 26/08/2011 20:23

The romantic camping one....

We've given up on a film as everyone is phoning tonight, off to bed early as in work tomorrow! Rock and roll Grin

MisSalLaneous · 26/08/2011 21:17

Hopefully any troublemakers will soon get bored of us again.

Good night!

YellowDinosaur · 26/08/2011 23:14

Well I'm a bit p*ssed after a night out for a curry with Mum and Dad (vouchers came through in time after all!) so if any trouble makers swagger on in I'll see them off! All 5ft of me!

Brambles fingers crossed for a good result xxx

On the where do you store your camping stuff... In our garage. But the new tent has pride of place in the lounge as I am not risking it getting damp and mouldy before I've even been in it! Plus if we push the sofa to one side its big enough to put the tent up which the boys like and given the weather at the moment might be the only chance they get to go in it!!!

Oh and the (canvas) windbreak in a plastic cover is in the hall cupboard as if damp got inside the plastic it would rot.

lostinwales · 26/08/2011 23:26

Ummm, local sourced food is lovely but then I know the people who have opened the restaurant and everything they do is amazing so I should have known. I had local fish stew for a starter and roast chicken, garlic mash and greens for my main course and couldn't eat another thing if you paid me, I am channeling the Monty Python 'waffer thin mint' moment and lying on the sofa, yum and [groan], and [grain] of course.

The camping in active threads is troubling me, one of the posters has a local to me NN and has recommended the nearby lovely but expensive glamping site

Would love to be more chatty but there was also an excess of [grain] with food and every word is being typed with the utmost care, I am making a bad habit of this these holidays, roll on school and my liver can have a decent break. Camping in the field tomorrow as the DH's are on a stag do so the women are congregating for strength in numbers!

YellowDinosaur · 27/08/2011 10:20

Food sounds fab lost! Our curry was lovely too and the wine beer and gin

Enjoy your ladies camping weekend! Pissing rain here so I think I'm going to stay indoors...

notwavingjustironing · 27/08/2011 21:18

lostinwales · 27/08/2011 21:59

Hellooo notwaving, glad you had a good time and glad to see you back, ti's a bit quiet tonight isn't it @@@@@@ (apparently that's the sign for tumbleweed) I am accidentally at home due to very strong winds and rain. DH still get's to go on his stag night though, apparently you don't cancel those if it's a bit damp Grin. There's bog all on TV too, grump!

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 27/08/2011 22:14

Helloooooooooo! I thought I was all alone here...off to bed though as whilst I love Tim Minchin I'm too tired to watch the rest of the comedy prom:)

Lost your trip sounds fab, as does the food! Notwaving i hope your trip was great.

Wonder what nettletea's place is like. Everyone I know is away!

notwavingjustironing · 27/08/2011 22:28

I have had the wettest strike ever today (me and two other girls) our three tents are absolutely drownded! Will be hanging everything out to dry tomorrow but am physically and mentally shattered (7 children) lovely lovely trip though. Have we been invaded again by interlopers ?

brambleschooks · 28/08/2011 09:03

It is heaving it down here again, glad we didn't go camping. LAst week of holibobs (sniff). Sorry for abandoned trips and wet strikes. I remember one in tenby where it had started raining the day we arrived, rained solid for four days and we were next to a barn with a door that creaked all night like a horror film. I gave the kids tea, reversed the car up to the front of the ten, lobbed the stuff in the bqck and then just bundled the tent into the car before driving four hours home.

Or there was the time that we camped at great langdale in the lakes. Gorgeous day, but it started to rain in the evening and became torrential. Fortunately we were in the pop up tent and given that the ground was an inch under water it was quick and easy to strike camp. Just at the point where the rain was so heavy I couldn't open the car door, there was a knock on the window. It was my best mate, who had driven from a caravan site 12 miles away to fetch me (no mobile cove in the langdales so she had searched for us). Bless her, she took us to her infamous shoer/toilet ccombo van where we had a fab night.

notwavingjustironing · 28/08/2011 10:20

Morning Bramble ! Did read further up that you were kayaking on Anglesey recently too? Whereabouts? Was toying with the idea of a little camp this weekend before the boys go back to school but the thought is daunting after all the washing/ drying of all the kit Grin

YellowDinosaur · 28/08/2011 11:02

Hello notwaving! Glad you had a good (if wet and exhausting) time!

I want to camp next weekend too (assuming weather not shite) but we have a 40th party on the Sat and my fil arriving on the Sun. Boo hiss! Weekend after dh is away with a friend so might do it then instead.

Had a lovely evening last night - cooked dh a really nice meal (pear walnut and halloumi salad followed by sizzling beef with tomato salsa, chips, home made rosemary flatbread and creamy coleslaw. Yum! All from the cook book I linked a while back. No room for desert after all that but dh and I are both more savoury than sweet anyway. More than the food it was really nice to have a quality night with no tv, no internet and lots of chat. Not much of that recently as we've had various people staying and stuff on so lovely to have a night together.

Lost what do you mean there was nothing on TV last night??! I give you x-factor!! Much missed by me but on the planner for later... Dh is off away tonight as he is cycling the coast to coast in one day on Monday. Crazy man!!!

lovecat · 28/08/2011 11:28

Sounds lovely, Yellow. I shall have to search back for that link.

The weather's been mental, hasn't it? Glad that no-one has been drenched/swept away in the rain. DD's godfather lives in NY and has been posting v. worrying updates on facebook about Hurricane Irene. Currently they have no power and the house is 'rattling'...:(

Am wishing I was camping. We have moved all DD's stuff out of her room and have patched up the cracks in the wall (next door did a load of building work and they appeared all over the place) and cleaned off the muck - I'm not sure what she does when she lies in bed, but the wall by the bed has a definite muck line on it, like a dirty ring around a bath... now to paint - the colour is lovely but will need an undercoat and then at least 2 coats to give the proper shade, as despite being quite a vibrant apple green, it's quite thin when it goes on.... I'm just rambling now...

Spent yesterday set-building (all flats now constructed - yay!) then we went to our local-ish Indian last night for a meal - they sponsor our drama group and one of our girls did her work experience there & has been working there in the holidays (that was a horrible sentence in terms of grammar but I can't think how to correct it - alcohol-free Cobra obv. has the same brain-fuddling effect as the full-strength stuff) - it was her last night before she starts 6th form college and a group of us went to see her off (so to speak). V. nice, esp. as DH and DD came to join us, although all DD could be pressed to eat was chips [meh] and a garlic nan. Shame because they have a really varied menu with some unusual/delicious stuff on it, but Ms. Fussy thinks salt & vinegar crisps are 'spicy'. For some reason we all got talking about Disney films and ended up singing songs from them... Mulan featured heavily Confused ?!?

Well, I can procrastinate no longer, have to go put a wash on, do the shopping and gird my loins for decorating. It's DH's lie in, so DD and I have been playing schools all morning and I've been MNing on the side for my sanity.... gaaah....

YellowDinosaur · 28/08/2011 11:42

Good luck with the decorating lovecat! We're just off out for a nice lunch and to the park to let the boys run off their energy. They have been moaning a lot this am so need to be exhausted!

Here is the link to the recipe book

scaryt · 28/08/2011 11:59

Nipping on whilst in the midst of planning. Well, the early stages it's more like random thoughts at the moment. Oh that first week of Reception is fun fun fun. All in, full time on the first day. I do prefer it, though, in the long run.

Yellow that meal sounds divine. And to think we were in Northumberland, we'd have popped in for meal if I'd known you were such a whizz!!!

lovecat, sounds like you're making great progress on the room and with the show.

brambleschooks · 28/08/2011 17:41

Not waving - just went to treaddarh bay for the day. But they do not have a chippy for post kayaking pleasure, which is a shame.
Scary t, I cannot even read about other people planning now, as it sends me into a downwards spin. I'm glad you qualify that by saying that it is at the loose thoughts stage. Mine too. And the going into whs and buying a lot of useful plastic boxes and files... I got pretty organized before the end of summer but now have to organize my specialist teaching ... Argh!

Adored th proms last night, especially the comedy concerto - genius. Dad used to do a lot of conducting, will have to get it put on a DVD for him to watch in hospital if his blood pressure will stand it!

YellowDinosaur · 28/08/2011 18:19

scaryt next time you're welcome Smile

scaryt · 28/08/2011 20:58

God, will try to post from phone. Please excuse typing. Have sacked planning and come to caravan so I'm not being that good bramble! What do you do?

Oooh yellow, what an offer! See you in the morning [wonk]

MisSalLaneous · 28/08/2011 23:15

Hellooo! Well, back after a fantastic stay at NettleTea's place. We came back a day early as I'm feeling a bit unwell (not related to camping, I hasten to add!) Sorry to hear you add had such horrible weather. We were really lucky and except for the odd spell during Saturday early afternoon, it was nice and sunny. We even sat around the fire until late Saturday night.

I Have News: We've done the deed. Nonono, not that kind that's audible to everyone and really shouldn't be done with only canvas sheltering the poor unfortunate neighbours. We CUT the canvas. Oh yes. And you know what, it is fantastic. Love love love the stove, it was so nice and cosy when we went to bed. Longer camping season here we come.

Also had great fun chopping up logs for kindling. Can't remember if I told you, but they couldn't deliver my original choice in time so I swopped for Wildlife Hatchet Axe instead. Slightly longer handle, but same head. It's brilliant - wish you could feel it, it's fun. Hmm, I now realise that sounds ever so slightly unhinged, I'll shut up now.

lovecat · 28/08/2011 23:24

OMG!!!! ShockShock

Look, you've shocked me into using txtspk! MisSal, you cut it?? Wow!! Am jealous, as we can't risk doing the same due to DD's ability to blunder into/fall onto just about anything even if not directly in her way. Maybe when she's left home...

Axe-action sounds fun. Sorry to hear you're unwell and had to come home early, was it good? Am :( that i couldn't make it but DD's bedroom is now part-painted, so it's all to the good in the end, I suppose

MisSalLaneous · 28/08/2011 23:35

Yay for painting! I'm sure DD would love it, so a weekend well spent. I love painting walls, there is something relaxing about it. A new, clean start. (Did I mention I was odd??)

Yes yes, wouldn't recommend stove with falling children, as legs stand out a bit, so probably not recommended. The flu (it goes through silicon flashing tightly) should keep it upright anyway, even if you fall against it, but it would burn her, so no, I wouldn't either if I were you.

Camp was lovely, yes thanks. A shame that you couldn't come, but understandable. All of us on this thread (and any others of course) really should try and meet up next year. The thing that I liked most was that everyone there was interesting and nice company, so not the random-people-we-had-nothing-to-say-to situation that I feared worst case situation would be where you're meeting up with (relative) strangers.
