The Glass of Wine, The Campfire and The Awfully Big Adventure

We've all blethered on pleasantly on Seashells' lovely previous thread and, with the school holidays approaching, lots of us are about to start our summer adventures( not all of which are in tents....!) This thread is for us all to check back in and generally keep in touch. So we've packed up our Icey-Teks and our Tarps and our Death Socks, gently doused the burning embers of our planning campfire and rinsed out the wine glasses.

We're ready for our Awfully Big Adventure.

Come and talk about yours here (even if you're staying put!)

Grin Quenelle at qite a dash. Clearly I'm getting old too as I hadn't thought anything of your comment until you pointed it out!

lostineurope · 26/07/2011 20:40

Found you all Grin. Good evening from Italy . We have now driven 1,200 miles and have camped, (cheap) hotels and are currently in a Villa looking down a steep hillside to the med. Four nights here then we are trying a campsite in Antibes (just for two nights but then when we meet posh rellys later in the year we can go 'remember when we were in Antibes darling?'). Could write a whole thread about Dutch campers, no cats on leads though disappointingly. If anyone knows any good campsites on the way up through France ideas would be great. Having an amazing time but could do with wifi to keep up with you lot.

Whoever was asking, Thornton le Dale is beautiful, we always used to go to Dalby Forest, was fab when I was young anyway.

Monaco tomorrow, not sure how camping uniform will go down thereBlush Ciao!

Reshape we tried out our Aldi SIMs for the first time this weekend - blisssss - with a picnic rug underneth and our new Sunncamp 50oz sleeping bags meant we were as snug as bugs!

Only prob was the slippery nature of SIMs so I'm going to take a couple of old duvet covers and sew a seam up them to create pouches in them for the SIMs. Should stop the slipping and we too can have one big sleeping area in the bell tent

Evening Lost. I'm insanely jealous of your trip, it sounds just brilliant.

I don't know any specific campsites but I love the area around Avignon and also highly recommend the Ardeche. If you need some online research done I would be happy to have a look when I'm at work tomorrow.

Can I join this thread please? Although we've done bits of camping over the last couple of years, we've been given a whole new lease of life with our Quechua base seconds tentSmile. Last weekend (16th) in Silverdale in the rain, Sunday night Shropshire in the sun with shooting stars at night, bliss. At least Shropshire was bliss until a digger arrived outside our tent yesterday morning at 8 to start digging up the sewage pipeAngry. The site owners had warned us of someone coming to do "a bit of work" but not the nature of it! Still, we moved the stove, table and chairs outside a kind neighbour's tent and escaped the smell for breakfast.

2 weeks to CornwallGrin

YellowDinosaur · 26/07/2011 20:59

hello lostineurope!

Glad to hear you're having a fab time and keeping up with the Jones in Antibes! Unfortunately can't help with campsites in France since the last time I went camping there my age was in single digits. Enjoy!

Quenelle · 26/07/2011 21:02

Hi Northender. Glad to see more successful use of a Quechua. I know one 2yo who would have gone out of his mind to find a digger outside his tent Grin

cross posted Quenelle and northender...

Quenelle ilking that you have such courage in your convictions that you post twice Grin

northender welcome!

Shock at full on digger digging up sewage as being 'a little bit of work'. Would have been very unimpressed at that! Base seconds is the Quechua tent with 2 rooms for about £160 that I was trying to remember the name of upthread - is it wort it? I'm looking for a pop up for weekends away with boys when dh is busy - at the moment I think one big room would work better for us but this one looks fab so maybe in a couple of years...

YellowDinosaur · 26/07/2011 21:04

You have a good point Quenelle - my boys would have been pretty impressed too! not sure sewage smells would have helped the full english go down though...

Glass of white? Wouldn't want you to feel left out!

Quenelle · 26/07/2011 21:06

I remember camping in Nice when I was little. It rained so much Dad had to dig a trench round the tent.

Hey lost, loving your updates! It sounds just wonderful.

Enjoying all your other lot's shopping talk - so far I've been good and haven't bought anything new for ages, so your finds great couch-shopping.

Shame re bh camp, lost. I scared you off, didn't I? And anyway, I can get some Veet for the hairy bits.

YellowDinosaur · 26/07/2011 21:07

Actually the base seconds isn't the one I was thinking of with 2 rooms was it... As you were...

SeaShellsMyDogSmells · 26/07/2011 21:09

Lostineurope-Grin glad you are enjoying yourself! Please tell all about the Dutch-and why is it the Dutch iyswim?!

This sales talk is no good I tell you-first pay day is end of august and I MUST hold out (though I have warned dh about canvas roulette and he sounded scared :) )

northender · 26/07/2011 21:09

northender · 26/07/2011 21:14

Thanks for the wine YD. Yep, our base seconds has a room either end and a modest living area in the middle. £160 and perfect for weekends. This is the love in thread thread I started about it!

MisSalLaneous · 26/07/2011 21:15

:) Just joking SeaShells. Ah yes, that's the downside of new job, but hey, there'll be another chance. Early next year sound good.

Sorry for x-post btw - reading and posting between baking here, so keep missing about half a dozen posts!

Gave dh coffee with two spoons of salt yesterday. Grin Poor man.

lostineurope · 26/07/2011 21:16

X posted with everyone - twice!

Thanks for the wine Yellow. Don't mind if I do Grin
