I don't want our Outwell any more. I want a bell tent <sob>

I did something stupid last year, I sold our bell tent which we had never camped in, only used in the garden, and bought a massive Outwell Sun Valley 6 instead, complete with Kids' room etc.

I don't like it. It's ex display so only been put up once and it was so difficult with the massive poles..I could do the bell tent in 10 minutes by myself. Sad

Now you can't buy from Obelink any more and I can't afford a UK bell tent. I don't want the blardy Outwell.

If anyone wants to swap please let me know. I know it's hopeless and no one will!

Could ebay the outwell and probably get around £200-300 as it's in such new condition but even so, S?H bell tents are really hard to find.

I am just moaning as I know there are people here who will understand Grin

Ingrid, here are some De waards to tempt you away from the circularness that is Bells

Lucy, heh heh, they can take a bit of ribbing. There are billions of em [hyperbole] and only one of me Sad

Slubberdegullion · 10/05/2011 19:39

on here (mn) obv.

steamedtreaclesponge · 10/05/2011 19:45

Ingrid, I feel your pain - I love my bell tent more than anything! Can't wait to get camping again this year. Unfortunately I don't have a car so I have to persuade people to come on exciting trips with me so that they can drive and I don't have to hump the damn thing around, it's so bloody heavy! But I wouldn't change it for anything Grin

Needanewname · 10/05/2011 19:50

Lucy we only go to campsites that allow fires and cook everything on the fire (personally can;t stand the more manicured sites) nothing better than sitting round a camp fire in the evening keeping nie and warm!

IngridBergman · 10/05/2011 20:21

Slubber, thankyou for that. The Dutch family in particular is very attractive.

I would say yes to all of those beautiful contraptions but for the fact that they look like my eleven year old sister's 'curve stitching' from 1982.

How do you manage to erect them without tying yourself up rather like a captured fly?

OP posts:
Lucycat · 10/05/2011 21:15

Needanewname - most of our camping is done in France on sites in the South where they don't allow fires (or even charcoal BBQs) so we'd struggle there Grin
I can see in soggy Britainn that a fire is nice though.

QueenLaQueefer · 10/05/2011 22:46

D'ya know what, slubber? I've been lurking on the camping boards for a couple of years now, and after convincing DH he wants a bell tent, you may have started to turn me.

That first link really whetted my whistle for one of those Dutch numbers.

Slubberdegullion · 11/05/2011 09:18

Queen, they are lovely aren't they. I love my Cabanon pyramid but they are the next level up. Spenith though.

Ingrid, I can't comment on pitching easiness of the de waard, but they can't be any more complex than ours. Central pole up, 2 poles at door up, 2 poles at porch up. Ding ding ding and you're done. They do have a lot of guys though so pegging in takes a while.

I did however watch the Elves strike camp. Celeborn and Galadriel moved in a poetic dance of symmetry, unpegging and folding, singing all the while in the clear bell like voices of the Dutch Noldor. As they did a tree burst into blossom.

You'd never get that with a bell.

Ooh I just had a look at the De Waard tenten, colours available are lovely, but how many guy ropes?.

Needanewname · 11/05/2011 13:16

lucycat - no fires [shudder] Grin

Quite fancy camping in France, maybe next year!

chimchar · 11/05/2011 16:36

have just pmd you...i have a bell tent for sale. Smile

ReshapeWhileDamp · 11/05/2011 17:30

Slubber, I have to admit I did do an involuntary 'phwoar' at your Vario-whatsit. Grin

When I am all Bell'd up, I plan to keep the ugly clutter in the car. Surely part of the benefit of car camping? Wink

Slubberdegullion · 11/05/2011 18:18

phwoar indeed Grin

I told dh straight last night, have been pussy footing about in my head for too long.

I said that if he spontaneously had the urge to buy me some diamonds he was to scrap that urge and buy me a de waard instead.

He did a Hmm and Confused face combo but did comment on the coolness of the vario-whatsit. I have at least sowed the seed.

Tapsel, the guy ropes keep them from blowing over, and they never blow over. ever.

Slubberdegullion · 11/05/2011 18:25

hahaha [hysterical laughter]

have just worked out how much the albatros with the vario-whatsit and the curtain set (must have the curtains) would cost

£1,974.97

There is more chance of meeting the real Galadriel at a campsite at lake Bala that there is of me getting a new one I think.

Wiggletastic · 11/05/2011 18:50

4m bell tent for sale on ukcamping for £240 - if you sold your new tent then this would be a possiblity maybe?

QueenLaQueefer · 12/05/2011 10:53

Chimchar, if Ingrid doesn't bite, I may be interested in your Bell Tent!

IngridBergman · 12/05/2011 11:26

thankyou so much Chimchar. I'm still thinking about it but tbh really wanted the SIG version, so if Queefer is interested please don't hang about for me.

That was really nice of you though. Smile Much appreciated.

Slubber, I'm not entirely sure if I'll ever have the option but I would probably take one of those tents over a diamond, too.

MollieO · 12/05/2011 11:41

You can get coloured bell tents.

Needanewname · 12/05/2011 13:47

Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Slubberdegullion · 12/05/2011 13:53

dear Lord.

pink bell tents

I think I was just a little bit sick in my mouth

Needanewname · 12/05/2011 13:54

LOL and I love bell tents just not those ones!

Slubberdegullion · 12/05/2011 14:29

but but but the plain neutral canvas colour is so nice, and all gentle and calming to camp in

The 1970s orange frame tents were bad enough but pink, or that heinous green?

no

MollieO · 12/05/2011 14:32

You wouldn't struggle to find your tent if you got a pink one though would you? Grin

Needanewname · 12/05/2011 14:34

thats why you need bunting and fairly lights obviously Mollie!!!
