Anyone had success with slimfast?

I lost 1.5 stone about 2.5 years ago and felt great. Over 2020 I’ve put on a stone and then stayed fairly stable. I’ve tried losing it but can’t get into the rhythm of low carbing i did last time so decided to try slimfast for lunches - saves faffing making packed lunch and will hopefully help me too reduce calories to give me the kick start I need. However, I literally don’t know anyone who has used shakes before so can’t ask/get encouragement or tips. I’m on day one and the flavour was surprisingly good so I’m feeling optimistic but how much weight should I anticipate losing each week?

It might work for a couple of weeks, and then become unsustainable.

Caramellatteplease · 30/06/2021 06:45

Yes twice. First time I was hugely obese I did it for a month then moved onto my fitness pal. Gave me a good break from food and helped trim my appetite.

The second time (about 4 years later) I had put a stone and half back on leaving me about half stone above my comfortable weight. I wasn't getting sufficient calorie deficit (probably logging errors) to get reliable lose. 1 months Slimfast made that easy.

I dont find it easy to maintain at my ideal weight so I lose and gain that half a stone- stone anyway.

m0therofdragons · 30/06/2021 11:16

Thank you - I’m thinking short term to get me refocused, although I currently like the reduced faff of making lunch. A month should get me where I want to be so I’ll then aim to maintain that healthily.

I thought you were supposed to have two shakes a day, then 1 shake a day is maintenance? I’m sure that’s what it was when I did it. Anyway, it does work because it’s so low calorie and cuts out the potential for accidental over portioning but I found it utterly miserable. I found it easier eating more low calorie food - I especially like eating eggs because I felt if I had two boiled eggs in the morning I wasn’t hungry until afternoon. When I was doing slim fast I lost weight fast but I was always tired and very hungry.

m0therofdragons · 30/06/2021 12:11

I’m only having one as I don’t eat breakfast so usually only eat 2 meals with 2 snacks.

I like the Vitality shakes, find them quite filling. Think they might be more expensive though.

Lemons1571 · 11/07/2021 22:36

I’ve been doing slimfast religiously since September. Just coming up to nearly 8 stones lost. I do have to be increasingly strict about sticking to it though, more so now lockdown is ending and there’s more opportunity to eat normal food out and about.

m0therofdragons · 13/07/2021 23:15

Well done @Lemons1571 that’s amazing. I’m impressed by my 6lbs in two weeks but I’m doing it with calorie counting as I know I have to be strict if I want the scales to move. I also reduce carbs from bread and pasta.

I've been thinking about doing slimfast just to kick start the weight loss. I need to lose about 10 stone Blush. I have a habit of snacking in the evening so was thinking slimfast could break that habit.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 03/08/2021 18:58

Jumping in to join you other slim fasters, I need to lose nearly 14 stone, so I am planning on starting slimfast on August 23rd as I want to get several birthday celebrations out of the way first, including my own.

Then a new age and new start, I want to use it to kick start my weight loss as I struggle to exercise due to chronic pain and fatigue and if I push my limits too much I can potentially temporarily paralyse myself so wanting to avoid that.

I'm a snacker and often don't make proper meals as I live alone but my snacking is major problems at night and whenever I get upset about things I tend to binge eat so in the couple of weeks ahead, I am clearing my cupboards to friends and family and keeping a few basics in as I need to keep the momentum and by using 3 shakes a day initially it should get me on track for smaller portions.

I am trying to source an exercise bike as have more chance of doing it when no one can see me.

@Lemons1571 that's absolutely fantastic. Well done.

m0therofdragons · 05/08/2021 22:08

Just adding an update - after 5 weeks I’ve lost 1stone (even with one weekend out out drinking that ended with cheese on toast). I’m going to stick with it. I use slim fast as a quick and easy lunch option to take to work so at weekends I calorie count and have real food like an omelette. It’s working for me and I’m no longer over weight. I’d like to lose another half a stone so I’ve got wriggle room but I’m actually happy with my body right now, clothes fit nicely and I’m happy being naked in front of dh again.

Delighted for you, @m0therofdragons

BlobbyBloo · 05/08/2021 22:36

Don't bother.

As has been mentioned above it is not sustsainable unless you want to have meal replacement shite for the rest of your life. Learn to cook healthy meals and cut down on snacking.

m0therofdragons · 06/08/2021 08:26

@BlobbyBloo I cook all dinners from scratch but use the shakes for a quick bit filling lunch. Balance is working well for me so maybe don’t be so dismissive as everyone is different. Since posting my op I’ve stuck with it and it’s working as part of a calorie counting diet.

m0therofdragons · 06/08/2021 08:26

@NotanotherboxofFrogs you’ll be there by the end of September! Good luck!

LouLou198 · 06/08/2021 08:41

I had forgotten about slim fast!! I've been calorie counting all week, I've lost 1/4 lb!! Might give it a try to see if it will kick start things.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 20/08/2021 21:10

@m0therofdragons checking in to see how you are this week.
I start on Monday. Wish me luck.

m0therofdragons · 20/08/2021 21:31

I got down to 10st 3 but am on holiday so I’m up to 10st 7 right now.

Holiday ends 2nd September and I have dtds birthday so need to eat cake without stressing, so I plan to go back to it week days as it’s really easy to take to work - I struggle to balance a salad that’s filling enough so I take an apple or strawberries, a babybel and a shake. That’s basically lunch and breakfast and enough to get me to dinner time.

OP posts:
m0therofdragons · 20/08/2021 21:32

Good luck @NotanotherboxofFrogs

Interested to give slimfast a go maybe as a restat as I'm all over the place and can't get a handle on myself. But would this work if I did a sf shake for breakfast and a sf shake for lunch, a 500 calorie dinner and a 300 calorie snack in the evening?

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 29/08/2021 15:52

I'm going to use it as a lunch option to kick start things. Currently on holiday and I'm the biggest I've ever been. I'm small and don't suit being this heavy.

I don't tend to have breakfast anyway so will have a coffee (or eggs if I do have breakfast), slim fast for lunch, and have ordered gousto meals so I know exactly how many calories my evening meal is.

I change my mind so much I'm using the slim fast as 'that's what your having and that's that' sort of thing then I can enjoy a proper meal in the evening. Knocking the alcohol on the head for a bit, that's my downfall.

RedRum27 · 09/01/2022 19:16

@m0therofdragons bit late to the thread but reading with interest. How did you get on with slimfast? Thinking of trying it to kickstart this year having lost 18lbs last year but dropped off the wagon!

RavenBrooke · 10/01/2022 20:53

Jumping in to ask, is it essential to drink 2 litres + of water everyday?
I'm not doing slimfast, it's a different brand (strip shake) but the tub says drink at least 2 litres of water. I find that really difficult to do. Will it argent the results?

MishWoking · 13/01/2022 23:43

I lost a few pounds but it went back on quite quickly!

Blinkinname · 13/01/2022 23:45

I think the 'yes, twice' response says all you need to know op.
