Anyone had success with slimfast?

I lost 1.5 stone about 2.5 years ago and felt great. Over 2020 I’ve put on a stone and then stayed fairly stable. I’ve tried losing it but can’t get into the rhythm of low carbing i did last time so decided to try slimfast for lunches - saves faffing making packed lunch and will hopefully help me too reduce calories to give me the kick start I need. However, I literally don’t know anyone who has used shakes before so can’t ask/get encouragement or tips. I’m on day one and the flavour was surprisingly good so I’m feeling optimistic but how much weight should I anticipate losing each week?

@Blinkinname

some people naturally eat at their maintenance weight and others don't. I dont. I can sometimes but it's a constant effort of logging every I eat and sometimes I cant be fagged. Especially if there are other stressors. Then my weight will creep up.ive made my peace with that.

The first time I lost something in the region of 6-7 stone (I wouldn't weigh myself at my fattest so I dont know exactly how much), 1.5 stone of that was slimfast. I've I only put back on 1.5 stone of that in over three years, which I then took back off. Its 6 years later now, I'm still 4 dress sizes smaller.

Even if I have used slimfast twice (in 6 years), I consider that a pretty epic win.

Weight management is not a one off thing for me. Its lifelong. Slimfast makes that easy for me in very specific times when I need to break an overeating cycle.

Sometimes life isnt black and white.

@caramellatteplease I agree - it's a lifelong battle. 20 year yo-yo dieter here, finally lost 10 stone gone forever. I do not believe eating highly processed crap (slimfast) is the answer. Eat a steak and salad. Your body doesn't recognise crap as real food.

skimmed milk powder, maltodextrin, fat reduced cocoa powder (13%), soya bean oil powder (milk), inulin, milk protein, thickeners (xanthan gum, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose), vitamins & minerals1 (vitamin C, magnesium oxide, vitamin E, iron pyrophosphate, zinc sulphate, niacin, vitamin A, pantothenic acid, biotin, manganese sulphate, vitamin B12, potassium iodide, sodium selenite, folic acid, vitamin D, copper sulphate, vitamin B6, thiamin, riboflavin, vitamin K), barley malt extract, salt, natural flavouring, sweetener (sucralose).

It can recognise a kebab easily enough!!

I'm not sure why you think our body can process calories and nutrition from a steak but not a slimfast shake. You might want to cross reference your ingredients list with an average multivitamin.

also for some of us steak and lettuce is too expensive to be a day to day meal

Caramellatteplease · 18/01/2022 08:52

Look I think theres the best way to do things in an ideal world. And your right, in an ideal world. But not many of us live in an ideal world. Sometimes good enough is enough.

Isn't it that a steak is high in protein, comparatively?

Caramellatteplease · 18/01/2022 09:04

It is higher in protein. But over the course of 2 slimfasts and a balanced main meal you can/should get more than enough protein. a slimfast doesn't need as much protein as a steak. In fact even your main meal doesn't need as much protein as a steak.

elelel · 18/01/2022 09:07

A slim fast might not need as much protein
as a steak, but the consumer may.

Read up on ultra processed food and how your body metabolises it - you eat 250 calories of ultra processed food your body will burn fewer of those calories than 250 calories of steak (or chicken or whatever). It's really very interesting.

My sister used it lose about 3 stone. She has not put weight back on but has become much more exercise focused and walks 4 times a week. She has a slimfast for lunch twice or 3 times a week for maintenance of weight.

@m0therofdragons

Just adding an update - after 5 weeks I’ve lost 1stone (even with one weekend out out drinking that ended with cheese on toast). I’m going to stick with it. I use slim fast as a quick and easy lunch option to take to work so at weekends I calorie count and have real food like an omelette. It’s working for me and I’m no longer over weight. I’d like to lose another half a stone so I’ve got wriggle room but I’m actually happy with my body right now, clothes fit nicely and I’m happy being naked in front of dh again.
Hey! I know this is a really old post, but do the shakes taste nice?
Lochnessgiraffe · 23/02/2022 10:53

I've just started slim fast this week. The shakes are tasty. Just got scales yesterday so fingers crossed

Slimfast was how I found out I have a whey intolerance. Don’t buy lots to start off with just try 1 first to find out…
