To start with you cannot sustainably live as you are doing on 500 to 600 calories a day. No wonder you are feeling weak. I would think somewhere around 1500 calories a day would be more realistic for your weight.

Start by downloading an app like MyFitnessPal or Nutracheck and log everything that passes your lips. There is no quick fix to losing weight. Slow and steady is much better. I've been calorie counting since January and I have between 1300 and 1400 calories a day and have lost 1 stone 10 in that time. I have about a stone and a half to go. So my weigh loss has not been quick but it's been far more enjoyable than starving myself on 500 calories a day.

katey2020 · 21/08/2020 07:50

Hi division bellas, its what Dr told me to do and the dietangment course in on. Dr told me I should I lose 2 pound a week that's what there wont me to lose at my weight. I use to eat 1000 wen i wasn't dieting and wasn't dieting then

500-600 calories a day every day is nowhere near enough and I can’t believe a doctor would ever suggest that. Two days a week as part of a fasting plan, maybe, but not every day.

I’d have a look at Fast 800/The Blood Sugar Diet. Works fast as a kick start by getting you into ketosis then moving to a more Mediterranean style diet. Of if you want to stick to calorie counting aim for at least 1200 (but calorie counting can be tricky because people often misjudge what they’re eating)

BuffaloCauliflower · 21/08/2020 07:52

At 122kg you would have been losing weight on 1000 calories a day, it’s impossible not to. Either you were eating much more than you think (easily done) or you have a medical issue

NotMeNoNo · 21/08/2020 07:55

Have you got mixed up with the 5:2 diet where you eat 500 cal 2 days/week like a mini fast but a decent amount (over 1500 cal) of healthy food on other days. I would slow down a bit and listen to your body.

Ask dr to refer you to dietician or a more specific eating plan.

There are short term low cal diets but they are very specific in what you eat in terms of nutrition and you shoudnt feel ill.

katey2020 · 21/08/2020 07:55

Thankyou I will look now its hard to get excice durn the day I have 2 small kids under 5 so have to get it while I'm at work. I used to get 1000 a day wen wasn't dieting and still didn't lose weight in on depo and that puts a lot of weight on me bit tried others and didn't work

What doctor told you this? What’s your height and age?

I follow low carb. To my mind you won’t lose weight eating the food in your list regardless of the calories they contain. Your primary objective needs to be lowering your insulin first. To that end you need to choose foods that are low carb and then you need to add fasting in once you are fat adapted.

fallfallfall · 21/08/2020 07:57

500 calories is unreasonable and unsustainable and will not teach you long term portion control.
Aim for 1500 of natural food; no shakes! no crackers or boxed cereal. Make your own yoghurt please.

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/08/2020 07:58

Don’t worry about exercise. Weight loss is 90% diet.

NotMeNoNo · 21/08/2020 07:59

This heat wave hasnt helped anyone's hydration. Good luck its a challenge but be safe doing it. The Fast 800 threads are very helpful here. If you are cutting down a lot I would ditch the pasta but go with your advice .

5ft 7 and 122kg?

Noneyerbuisness11234 · 21/08/2020 08:11

There's no way u can only be eating 5-600 calories and not losing weight I don't think Iv been counting them right there's 105 in a medium banana 100 in slice bread
Can you tell me wat you would eat on a general day breakfast lunch dinner plZ

Pipandmum · 21/08/2020 08:14

No doctor is going to tell an active person that their body only needs 500-600 calories a day. That is fasting calories.
Even 1000 calories is too little in most cases. Do you weigh everything? Are you truly being accountable?
Get yourself another doctor, and a good kitchen scales. MyFitnessPal is great for calorie counting and the community forum full of advice.

CodenameVillanelle · 21/08/2020 08:17

There is no way you were eating 1000 calories a day and weighed 122kg. Not possible.
You absolutely shouldn't be eating 500 calories a day now, that's starving yourself. Go see a proper nutritionist please, your doctor's advice is terrible, but it sounds like you are very confused about food and diet also.

hmb255 · 21/08/2020 08:22

Why don't you try the fast 800 which is 800 calories of low carb Mediterranean style food for up to 12 weeks and then you move on to a 5:2 diet where you only restrict 2 days a week at 800 calories and eat sensible the other 5. I think low carb might be your friend.

katey2020 · 21/08/2020 08:23

Thanks you I will ring Dr soon for appointment Tha ks for edvice I will eat at least 1,000 if that what it is ment to be,I meant I were 98kg wen I used to eat 1,000 a day I've put a lot of weight on

What like her doctor who has recommended a 500/600 calorie diet?!!!
CodenameVillanelle · 21/08/2020 09:02

That's why I said proper advice!
I don't actually believe a GP would advise 500 calories a day anyway

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/08/2020 09:06

We don’t know where the OP is even located. Many professionals give very poor dietary advice in my experience, so pick your professional carefully.

www.jamessmithacademy.com/
I recommend having a look at James smith.... also he’s on FB and does loads of live chats where you can ask questions. I think you need to be real with yourself. It’s not possible to be eating so little and not lose weight but gain. Do you log absolute everything you eat and drink? Milk in your coffee? A teaspoon of sugar? Have you had your thyroid checked? Even if it was a thyroid unless you’re consuming the calories you will gain weight...

katey2020 · 21/08/2020 09:18

I don't drink coffee or tea just fresh juice and watter. Okay I will eat 1,000-1,300thanks

OP posts:
CodenameVillanelle · 21/08/2020 09:20

Fresh juice has loads of calories

Bedroomdilemma · 21/08/2020 10:08

Why don’t you write down what a typical days diet would be? As pp said, there are a lot of calories in juice.
