MFP how are people finding 1200 cals?

PumpkinPie2013 · 31/05/2014 10:40

I started on Thursday. I'm just under 5ft 3in and currently weigh 9st 10lb.

Pre pregnancy I was 8st 7lb so would like to shift a stone or just over.

I'm finding the tracker really good.

Came in at just under 1200 calories yesterday but felt quite satisfied.

Aiming for 1200 again today. Used 254 at breakfast on 2 boiled eggs, 1 small slice bread and a cup of tea (no sugar and just a bit of skimmed milk).

Drinking water to try and resist the urge to snack but finding it quite hard!

I tend to do a walk with ds in the pram each day and am doing some sit ups/squats to tone tummy and thighs.

I hope this works!!

I was on 1200 on MFP, I've now lost the weight and stopped logging, am weighing myself daily and not regaining, I think I've "retrained" myself into a lower cal way of eating...

I found it easier to download the app (free!) and then you can scan bar codes on your phone to check calories, makes working it out so much easier.

TomDaleysTrunks · 05/06/2014 07:23

Well done pumpkin. That's amazing.

Thanks for the pep talk mary. Lovely to hear a success story. It's good motivation!

snickers251 · 05/06/2014 09:09

Well done pumpkin!!

I've now lost 8lbs in my first two weeks and more determined than ever.

Mary that's what I hope will happen to me, my weight is constantly up and down but with this I'm hoping it will make me more conscious for the future.

Tom that's my lunch sorted today thanks Grin

cremedecacao · 05/06/2014 19:14

Another (Japanese) soup recipe:

75g rice noodles, a handful of soya beans, grated carrots and mushrooms, soy sauce, ginger and a sachet of miso. Could add tofu, chicken, prawns too or other veg too. Makes a big bowl and it's filling for about 100 calories!!!

cremedecacao · 05/06/2014 19:14

*without chicken/tofu/prawns

TomDaleysTrunks · 05/06/2014 19:52

That sounds delish. Thanks!

Had quite about of cake at Playgroup today but didn't have lunch so just going to tot up my cals. Not ideal.

wundawoman · 05/06/2014 20:16

I've started using MFP 3 days ago and it is so easy to use!! Don't know why I haven't tried it sooner (lazy!).

Did you all enter your weight and height etc so MFP calculates your daily calorie count? Or have you decided on the calorie intake yourselves?

After entering my details, my calories are around 1400 per day...

snickers251 · 06/06/2014 10:48

Mfp added it for me with my details and I'm on 1200 (with the 2lb per week loss)

It's sooo easy!! And motivating too... Week 3 and I've lost 8lbs in total Smile

How you getting on pumpkin?

PumpkinPie2013 · 06/06/2014 16:24

Hi snickers doing ok but had a bit of an 'off' day today.

Had 2 small toast and tea for breakfast.

A shop bought wrap for lunch and another tea.

Having fish and veg for tea and currently drinking water!

I'm actually still within calories which is good but could kill for a glass of wine Sad

May have a small one later!

Thanks for those meal tips. Will def try. I've started getting headaches today. I'm wondering if it's related to the calorie counting. Has anyone else had this?

snickers251 · 06/06/2014 21:31

Pumpkin do it! I've had a few over the last few weeks and it hasn't affected my weight loss at all. I'm now 9lbs down.

I'm worried I'm going to be disappointed soon as it won't be so easy as my weight goes down but I'm so close to that healthy bmi I'm more determined than ever.

I'm boozing in London tomorrow night so I've tried to keep my intake low lady couple of days, it's been hard Wink

Shabba possibly? I've not suffered with them since I started mfp but then I've upped my water in take, or rather swapped ridiculous amounts of sugary tea for water

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 06/06/2014 21:51

I've been doing it for six weeks and I've lost six pounds so far. I'm shocked by how much I was eating before - huge portions and snacks between meals as well.
I think it's a really good way of reeducating yourself in how to eat healthily.
Mind you, it's costing me a fortune on fresh veg.

PumpkinPie2013 · 07/06/2014 10:49

Well, I did indulge in my wine last night - just one glass Smile

I'm glad I did Smile

I weighed myself this morning and I'm still ok lol Grin

Back to it today!

OP posts:
cremedecacao · 08/06/2014 00:33

Weighed myself this morning. Have put ON half a pound. I have eaten like a monk all week. My clothes are loose though- is it muscle!?

TomDaleysTrunks · 09/06/2014 22:52

Could be. Are you having enough water?

PumpkinPie2013 · 10/06/2014 07:47

Creme could be muscle but you could try upping your water intake?

If you have a boots near you, try their scales and look at the muscle/fat percentage.

Don't give up - you might lose more next week!

I've not been tracking as well the last couple of days as had a hideous water infection but firmly back to it today!

I couldn't resist weighing and have lost another 2 lb so happy with that. Official weigh day is Thursday.

Hope everyone else is doing ok? Smile

TomDaleysTrunks · 11/06/2014 06:34

Boo to the water infection. Hope you are feeling better.

Yesterday was my first really hungry day. Not sure why, nothing was different. I managed to stick to it but it was hard.

codandchipstwice · 11/06/2014 12:17

Hello

I'm on day 10 of 1200 - have swapped from WW and much prefer it, love the freedom. I have tweaked it slightly though, like WW I don't count most fruit and veg (I don't eat much fruit anyway) - and I'm allowing myself milk for tea/coffee without counting.

Also allowing myself extra 500 over the whole weekend too, so not expecting such dramatic weight loss.

Was WI day today - and I've put on 2lb. It is TOTM though, so am discounting and sticking with, and hoping will have caught up with itself by next week.

Hope you don't mind me joining in

QueenieRae · 11/06/2014 14:03

I'm not doing too badly, filling up with veg. The worst part is when you're still ravenous even though you know you shouldn't be. I'm trying to manage cravings by eating smaller portions of nicer food. Chewing gum seems to help a bit as well.

PumpkinPie2013 · 12/06/2014 06:57

Welcome to newcomers Smile

I'm feeling better thanks Smile

Not been great at logging this week and had a takeaway the other night [shame]

However I've still lost 2 lb this week so 6 lb altogether Smile

Really pleased so very determine now!!

Back to logging and doing toning exercises Smile

Here's to another week!

OP posts:
Sianilaa · 12/06/2014 12:16

Hello everyone, is it ok if I join in?

I'm 5ft 8 and weighed 15 stone Blush on June 1st. My weigh in day is officially Saturday morning, so I'm almost at the end of week 2.

I have always been overweight and was always between 12-13 stone but since having my two DSs and having PND where I stopped cooking and exercising and didn't care about myself, I shot up to 16 stone. In 2010 I lost 4 stone and got back to 12 doing MFP but just seemed to stop and it's going back on again.

Enough is enough! It needs to be a lifestyle change and I want to be fitter and healthier.

So yes I'm doing 1200 cals and some days it's easy and other days it seems impossible!

I can't buy snacks, cos I'll eat the lot. Soup is a great standby to have. I've got the Hairy Dieters cookbooks and they are fab - all calorie counted and taste delicious so I've been doing a lot of cooking and meal planning from there which is making it so much easier.

A typical day for me would be something like this:

Breakfast - Greek yoghurt and fruit with a little bit of granola Or 2 crumpets with almond butter on Or scrambled egg whites and 2 rashers of sainsburys Be good to yourself bacon. (250-300 cals)

Lunch - soup or salad or scrambled egg whites on granary toast. (300 cals)

Dinner - hairy dieter's recipe like Beef Stroganoff or Chicken korma, etc. (400 cals)

Evening snack:
Fruit
Options hot chocolate

I only ever drink water or sometimes a bit of squash/coke zero but not often.

I'm also cycling 10km on my exercise bike 3 times a week and swimming twice a week and a session of aqua aerobics. When I'm a bit fitter I'm going to start running again.

I'm a bit all or nothing so I need to not fall off the wagon and give up of I have a bad day.

QueenieRae · 12/06/2014 12:29

Hi Sianilaa.

Sounds like you're doing great! I've got Hairy Dieters cookbooks too which are pretty brilliant. Wish DP wasn't quite so fussy with his food though as I'm having to make separate meals more often than I'd like.

How are you finding the exercise? I've been trying to do some here and there but between my various health problems an hour or so of gentle exercise is wiping me out for days.

For reference I'm 5ft 8 also and 13 stone 1 down from 13 and a half and I've been calorie counting for three weeks now.

Keep at it :)

awaywego1 · 12/06/2014 18:57

I'm on 1200 cals at the moment and it's hard work but doable I suppose! I've been managing to stick to it all week but am going to relax this weekend and indulge a bit as I have a couple of birthdays to go to. Alcohol is definitely my downfall..I seem to have got into a habit of havin a glass of something every night and don't have many calories to play with.

I was 9.7 now 9.4 after 2 weeks and would like to get to 9 for my holiday in 3 weeks..am only 5.2 but I'm carrying a lot of weight around my middle which is probably the booze Sad

MonkeyGoneToHeaven · 13/06/2014 16:46

Hello everyone. I've been on 1200 cals since mid-March and I've lost 19lbs, which is 10% of my body weight so i'm pretty pleased about that. I was 13st 10 (eek) and now I'm 12st 5 (not ideal, but better).

The top end of my healthy range BMI is 10st 6, so I'm aiming for that. I am finding it fairly easy to stick to but if I am to get enough to eat, there is just no room for booze. However, I did buy some diet lemonade the other day and have been having a weak shandy occasionally (wild).

I have a boiled egg and marmite soldiers every day for breakfast and generally a sandwich for lunch. M&S do a chicken and basil one which is 290 calories and really tasty. I grow lots of veg on my allotment, so dinner is generally something like griddled spiced chicken, new potatoes and salad, or an asian type noodle dish with loads of veg.

Thank you for the Hairy Dieters tip, Sianilaa. I'm going to try their paella, it looks bloody lovely.

I promised myself that when I got to 12st 7 I would start running again, which hasn't happened. Just need a little kick up the bum!

Sianilaa · 14/06/2014 17:57

It was my second weigh in this morning (started Mon 2nd so technically only 12 days not two weeks but never mind!).

I'm 14st8, pleased to have dropped 6lb in 12 days. Motivating start :)

I'm going to Ascot races next Saturday for a friend's birthday and if I can drop another 2 or maybe 3lb I'll be really pleased. The exercise definitely helps. I'm thinking of doing the 30 Day Shred too...

My main problem is eating out and sticking to the calories. It limits me to places where I can easily find out the calories. Pizza express is fine, I can have one of their 500 cal ones so have booked that for Father's Day treat for tomorrow!

How is everyone else getting on?

I'm considering doing this but combining it with the 5:2 diet so have 2 days at 500 cals. Or do you think that might be too extreme? Then could move to just the 5:2 to maintain if/when I hit my target?
