Hello,

My daughter was involved in a fight at school wherein she was defending herself from a boy that was hitting her with a stick. She has retaliated and one of her peers has videoed it but obviously doesn't show her being hit with the stick.

We had a meeting with the parents and all involved were very cooperative and my daughter was aware that her actions had consequences and she was suspended from school. She returned and all was well in the world until we received a phone call from the police!!!

They want her to attend an interview, the officer has assured us it won't take long maybe 10 mins but has also stated that we have the right to have a solicitor present.

Is this normal? She's scared out of her mind over this and obviously the need for a solicitor has worried us as parents

So...update. we went to the cop shop for my daughters interview. We discussed the incident in detail and approached the subject of the initial assault. Usually (PCs words) they would have to take it as hearsay because we didn't report it first and there's no mention of it on the video HOWEVER the lad has been waiting for my daughter after every one of her classes (they only have 1 class together) and has since in the last 2 weeks attacked 3 other students at the school under very similar circumstances.
The police and the duty solicitor both agreed that based on this information that it is evident that my daughter is not the issue in this scenario. They've mentioned speaking with the youth board about anger management but also stated it probably won't go any further than there.

I hope therefore that will be an end to it op. As the boy is waiting for your dd after every lesson, what is the school doing to protect her?

@Marcbearpig That must be a relief having the police side of it sorted. I hope the school have put actions in place to stop him harassing your DD after class, have you spoken to the school yet since the interview? Hope your DD is OK. What a horrible experience for her.

OP, respect to you for coming back and posting and open and hoest post.

Good luck to you and your DD.

I echo that and I hope your daughter has some peace now, op. I also hope the boy is sorted out, he is just a boy after all even if he is obnoxious.

The police inaction here must be incredibly frustrating for everyone affected by this young psychopath. Anger management is a f*cking joke.

This is how Joanne Dennehy started out.

I'm glad your daughter is off the police radar, and I salute her for fighting back. What will the school do now that so many children have been victimized?

I'm glad your daughter is not in the sights of the police. That's definitely something!

Not great about the boy targeting her since though.

As crap as it is for the others he's targeted, I'm glad as it shows a pattern/shows he is a problem.
