ruty · 25/07/2005 19:54

well roosmum you i did say probably typist trained ba...no, sorry, mustn't be rude..

ruty · 25/07/2005 19:56

hooray nurseyjo! now please just say you've read the WHO link and we'll all love you...

moondog · 25/07/2005 19:56

Has nursey (sic) jo redeemed herself then after spouting tosh????

Blimey,can't keep up....

Ilovemonkeynuts · 25/07/2005 19:58

I'm sorry but what a crock of sh*t!

We all get your posts..the problem I and many other people have with your posts is the nonsense you have put in them! Please can you explain how you feel bf over 4yrs old is abuse????

Did you not read WWB's post? That is abuse.

It is the choice of the mother/child is it not? The reason that people don't do it in public so to speak is if you read other posts, most bf first thing in the morning and last thing at night which means they are likely to be at home are they not? Besides...I think one of the posters here (Spiderama I think...apologise if wrong)had no worries using the breast to soothe her daughter in public.

WHO or not doesn't mean someone can't express their opinion surely.

I genuinly don't understand why i can't do that.

I'm not the only one who agrees BF at 4 is wrong other wise why is this thread running.

Why on earth does this make me unprofessional???? [seriosly confused]

spidermama · 25/07/2005 20:00

I'm not sure I've read every single post but I think I'm the only one who's said, 'Yep. I fed a four year old'.
To extrapolate then ... It was in a swing park and there was no-one else there except for my friend and her family. Had there been, I'm not sure I'd have done it, because I know how reactionary, hung-up and easily offended people can be.

The festival crowd is a whole different ball game. At festivals I have no qualms about feeding children of any age and nor do the women there. I can't tell you what a relief it is to exchange smiles with another woman walking along feeding a toddler. It's so supportive I sometimes wish I could live at a festival forever.

ruty · 25/07/2005 20:02

yes nursey jo but please let your clients know what the DoH and WHO recommends...

don't see how one can argue with that spidermama.

Ilovemonkeynuts · 25/07/2005 20:05

Spider...your choice hun and no one elses business

nannyjo...yes there have been disagreements about extended BF but no one has come out with the statement that it is abuse when the child is 4 apart from you.

care to elaborate why you feel that way?

nannyjo · 25/07/2005 20:05

thank god someone ackknowledged i can have an opinion.

I have never and never would tell anyone what to do and when to do it with regards to BF esp. my families.

roosmum · 25/07/2005 20:05

nice one nurseyjo (on having read WHO...hopefully others will too...)!

breastpumps at dawn - i really hope not (i don't get on with mine, i hand express )

spidermama - it's a different world isn't it?! & just a shame that many people are so ignorant, misinformed, unsupportive...
could really do with some of the opposite in our society, so very often.

spidermama · 25/07/2005 20:05

Nurseyjo ... I love 'breastpumps at dawn'

WigWamBam · 25/07/2005 20:06

Nannyjo, you are entitled to your opinion that breastfeeding at 4 is wrong for you. You are coming in for stick because you are stating that it is wrong full stop, and particularly because you have equated it with abuse.

Please go back and read my posts at 12.26 and 1.26 today, and maybe you'll understand why someone like me is upset at extended breastfeeding being called abuse. I'm not going to repeat the content of those posts because they were hard enough to write in the first place, but they explain why I find your statements about extended feeding being abuse so sick and twisted.

I make no apology for saying that that statement is complete and total cobblers, and it makes a mockery of anyone who has suffered real abuse.

nannyjo · 25/07/2005 20:07

apologise for my opinion? Why have i told anyone else what to do? No, just told you what i think.

Lisa2 · 25/07/2005 20:07

WWB- I am so sorry to hear of your tragic experience and i would just like to say how brave you are for posting it.
I am truly sorry you went through this... no one ever deserves to experience something like that.

I know you are probably not looking for sympathy but i had to write this to you. I really admire your honesty.

roosmum · 25/07/2005 20:08

nannyjo - you'd never tell them what to do abt bf etc etc?? thought that was actually part of your job??

please do explain tho, like nurseyjo asked, just how you've come to your conclusions abt extended bf, i'm still mystified abt them.

bobbybob · 25/07/2005 20:09

But I thought the worldwide average was 4? Are all those people in Africa and the Indian Subcontinent child abusers? Or are they okay because they don't hide behind closed doors?

Personally I have only fed in private recently because we have been home when ds asked. he will not feed in front of his grandparents because he knows they disapprove. Kids are very sensitive to this.

If it helps don't think of extended feeding, just think of extended weaning.

nannyjo · 25/07/2005 20:10

a womans choice to BF is just that and i would not try to change that with my families, if they ask my opinion i would give it but they never would because it's got nothing to with my choice on how they BF.

nannyjo · 25/07/2005 20:10

& wwb, i too admire your honesty & bravery in posting.

& how nannyjo can stubbornly keep insisting that bf=abuse in light of your posts, i'll never know!
