Sorry to do another one of these, but was just feeding DD and looked down at her. She caught me looking, came off to smile and coo at me, then latched back on and continued feeding.

Giving up. Sad but true. I have had some lovely moments by the steriliser at three in the morning.

StealthPolarBear · 09/02/2010 13:32

oh dear - don't know your story, sorry, have you had a rough time?

Just thought of my second favourite thing, which isn't really a bf one. When she's upset or tired i can sit her on my knee and cuddle her and she calms down. Sounds like nothing but DS was never a cuddly baby, he fed constantly so they were his cuddles too.

I love it when they smile with the nipple in their mouths and do a couple of grinny-gummy sucks

mamaduckbone · 09/02/2010 13:34

Similar to yours stealth - my ds now has moments where he can't feed for giggling. It's so sweet - he giggles, feeds, pulls off again for another giggle, then can't latch on for the big grin on his face. Yum!

Comewhinewithme · 09/02/2010 13:34

Today when dd 8 months, was sat on my knee she pulled my top down made a big awww noise had a bit of milk then pulled off and gave me a big massive milky grin.

Sorry Sally .

Druidmama · 09/02/2010 13:43

My two DDs (3.6 and 11mths) now take turns on one boob in bed in the morning...one has two/three sucks then offers it to the other...it is so very very funny and sweet, makes me go all gooey!

Lexilicious · 09/02/2010 13:45

The crazed snuffle like a hog searching for acorns as DS dives at me from sitting on my knees facing me... always dives too low though, so ends up crumpled in my lap rooting and snorting. Hasn't worked out how to lift my top so tries to suckle through it sometimes too.

Had the unlatching and grinning - it's lovely indeed.

sallyjaygorce · 09/02/2010 14:02

Yeah bf has always been a nightmare one way or another - but I have had lots of heartmelting moments of smiling, gazing and cooing as you describe, just with a bottle instead. In fact I had a few of those with DH too, but that was when time was still ours and the bottle didn't have milk in it.

I used to get upset by these threads since those smiles and cuddles and amazing nurturing warmth and bonding are just as much part of of bottle feeding. UI know there are parents who stick a bottle in the baby's mouth and leave them to it but many snuggle up just as close and snug as a breastfeeding mum. Without the tummy draughts. The milk is inferior I know, but the moments you describe are not. Of course I am sometimes who believes in bf so was terribly anxious about the quality of the milk. Then I realised being anxious about that was getting in the way of enjoying all the rest of the things that I did share with breastfeeding mums - the things like cuddles, beautiful liquid eyes and watching them feel so loved and secure. So it doesn't bother me now - we all have our precious times and it's good to see a thread setting out to celebrate them.

StealthPolarBear · 09/02/2010 14:08

I know bottlefeeding can be full of those moments as well (although not convinced it's exactly the same thing with your DH ) and have started "best feeding moments" threads before (milk drunk seemed a popular one), but this seemed to me to be specifically a breastfeeding moment - all tied up with the way I feel about feeding her. Hope you geniunely aren't upset, sorry if you are

Oh, my 15 month old daughter shouting of "I want mummy TIT!" in a busy lift in Canary Wharf has to be my best breastfeeding moment.

sallyjaygorce · 09/02/2010 14:18

Oh no, not any more. I felt like that with my first child because I didn't know then how many other incredible and very personal moments there would be. It seemed that people who bf successfully had membership to the elite of motherhood - feeding their own milk to their own baby - and I despite my best efforts had been very firmly excluded. I now realised there are people with wonderful relationships with their children who bottlefed (I am fortunate to have three like that) and people who bf but have endlessly stressy households. I am not pleased about that, just less likely to be upset by one aspect of my experience of raising children that is different to someone else's.

Impressed by the feeding and typing by the way. I nevergot anywhere near that skilled!

I had to leave Pedants' corner as the quality of my posting dropped below what would be considered acceptable
Agree totally that it's one of those things in parenting that is as good or bad as you make it

sallyjaygorce · 09/02/2010 14:25

This doesn't mean no comment, just that I agree with you and I'm off to make biscuits with DD2 who has just woken up.

StealthPolarBear · 09/02/2010 14:29

i want to, but we don't habe enough butter to cover a slice of toast. Are there any biscuits / cakes that don't have butter? i have eggs& milk coming out of my ears!

OP posts:
dorisbonkers · 09/02/2010 14:32

I think you can do muffins with sunflower oil, if that helps

StealthPolarBear · 09/02/2010 14:36

hmmm how about olive oil?
actually doesn't matter because i think dd isdoing poo of the century in my arms and i'll be busy cleaning her up for the next hour or so

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 09/02/2010 14:36

oh dear she actually looks upset

my best BF moment BY FAR was when DD was about a week or so old and i had been so tired overnight that her latch had slipped and i had a quite painful graze on my left nipple so DH ran a bath for me when we got up on the sunday afternoon morning and i was complaining about my sore nipple so DH, carrying DD came in to have a look, touched the top of my boob and milk spurted out all over his face and neck H-I-LAIRY-O-U-S!!!!
i laughed more then than i had all week and i felt a million times better about the graze

First feed with DS2. MW left the room, came back a while later to se if he had latched on, only to find he was just finishing off the other boob couldn't get him off, complete opposite to DS1, but had some lovely moments with him too, just took a bit longer

MrsMotMot · 09/02/2010 19:54

When I was delayed in an airport for 8 hours with 19 week old DS and I just found a quiet corner, sat on the floor and fed him. No stress about would I have enough formula, bottles etc. It was just easy and I felt really secure and happy that I was all he needed, IYSWIM.

And the first few feeds after the thrush lifted- I was just so, so happy the pain was gone...

And the laughing on the breast as well. It's just the cutest.

wrigglershouse · 09/02/2010 20:04

She has just started to make cooing noises and is so excited by it that she even does it with nipple in mouth. Sounds all muffled and sometimes like gargling with milk! Love it.

crankytwanky · 09/02/2010 20:10

Oh I've welled up thinking of the big eyes looking up at you followed by the mahoosive grin!

DH once really wanted to latch DS onto me so "drove" him in whilst I was lying in bed. He would do that every now and again after that. I'd wake up with a small boy at my breast or I'd get out of the shower and DH would thrust the boy at me, so I'd be stood there with an infant noshing away and DH laughing like a drain. (DS had an awesome latch.)

HaveToWearHeels · 09/02/2010 20:20

When DD placed her little tiny hand on by boob when she was about 2 days old, in a protective "this is my boob" type of way.

Gmakes3 · 09/02/2010 20:38

dd taking her top off and thrusting baby Annabel doll to her breast and informing me matter of factly that baby needs milk from my nipple! None of the bottle feeding make believe play for my dd!
